Chapter 517 Top-notch

Ryan can be gentle too, so why didn't he give me even a little bit of that in the past five years? Is it because I'm not good enough, or because I was too good to him?

Now, I don't want him anymore, not even his gentleness and kindness. What's the point of him doing this now?

The steaming bowl of spaghetti felt like my mood, turning bland and tasteless.

I took a couple of bites but couldn't swallow any more, so I asked him what he wanted.

He looked at me for a moment, then slowly smiled, grabbing my hand and holding it in his palm. "Amelia, I'm sorry. I've been so busy lately that I've neglected you. We're not getting any younger, and my parents have been pushing for marriage. I want to marry you as soon as possible."

I was stunned.

I never expected that this was what he wanted to talk about.

"Amelia, my parents want to meet your parents to discuss our wedding."

I looked into his eyes, trying to find evidence that he wanted to marry me because he loved me, but I couldn't see anything.

"What's wrong, Amelia? Aren't you happy? We're getting married."

I looked at his familiar face, and five years of memories replayed like a movie in my mind. The thought of breaking up with him that I had prepared earlier just vanished.

I had truly loved him, so I wanted to give us one last chance, to make sure I wouldn't regret these five years.

I'm really useless. Ryan shows me a bit of gentleness, and my resolve to break up with him just disappears.

But what's not meant to be mine will never belong to me.

The dinner to discuss our wedding plans, which I had pinned so much hope on, failed because Grace's dress got dirty. The torn condom wrapper was like an unbridgeable chasm between Ryan and me.

That day, my brother couldn't make it, and my loving parents, feeling sorry for me, told me that if it didn't work out, I shouldn't force myself.

That was the last chance for Ryan and me. No matter how much I tried to hold on, he still left, and I decided not to look back.

So now, no matter what Ryan does or how much he regrets it, I won't be moved.

Besides, his current behavior might not even be regretful but for some reason, I don't know and don't want to know.

My recollection stopped there, and Aurelia was already breathing evenly in her sleep.

I guess her love life is sweet; otherwise, she wouldn't sleep so peacefully.

I looked out at the pitch-black night sky from the darkness, my mind gradually calming down and finally settling into tranquility.

I had truly given my all in those five years, and I have no regrets.

And in the future, I have many more five-year periods that belong to me, and I will strive to make each one better.

The so-called job training was actually rigorous training, aimed at cultivating our resilience and perfecting our skills for future practical work.

In just one day, these future colleagues were wailing like ghosts, but not one of them quit.

The instructor said that every day, the training scores would be tallied and recorded, and those who ranked at the top for three consecutive days would get twenty minutes to make a phone call outside.

My mind, a bit disturbed by Ryan, was cleared by the sweat I shed on the training ground, and my soul was elevated from within.

In the first round, I ranked first overall and got the chance to call my family.

The instructor handed me my phone, and as I charged it and turned it on, dozens of messages and voice mails nearly crashed my phone.

Among them, Jane's messages and calls were the most numerous; she must have been worried sick about me.

I decided not to call my parents and dialed Jane's number instead.

She was doing something, and when she answered my call, she was extremely excited, asking me a barrage of questions that left me unsure where to start.

She told me that Ryan had been coming to her place every day, and he had even gone to Crystal House several times.

She said she once saw Adam beat up Ryan, and Ryan's nose was bleeding all over, but he didn't dare say anything.

She said a lot more, mostly telling me that since I had decided to break up, I shouldn't look back. Ryan wasn't worth it. She wanted me to live happily and not lose my sense of self for a bad man.

At the end of the call, I asked her to call my parents and my brother to tell them I was fine and that I would visit them after the training ended.

That night, lying in bed, I thought about many things. When I finally thought about Ryan, I realized that compared to my ideals, beliefs, and hopes for the future, he no longer had any significance.

On the seventh day of training, the sky was particularly blue. Maybe the instructor was in a good mood because he ended the training an hour and a half early and told us to have some fun.

With my period due in three days, I looked at my dwindling supply of sanitary pads and decided to go to a nearby supermarket.

As soon as I stepped out of the training center, I saw a tall, skinny guy standing under a big tree across the street.

He had thick eyebrows and big eyes, was tall with long legs, and when he saw me, his eyes lit up, and he smiled, waving at me.

It was Adam, whom I had met a few times.

I didn't think about why he was there.

But in a foreign place, seeing someone I knew felt like finding a treasure.

I jogged over and asked him why he was there.

"The art school organized a field trip, and I was assigned here. I just took a walk by the river and was about to head back when I saw you. What a coincidence," Adam said, his eyes bright and particularly attractive.

I felt a part of my body move slightly, not affecting me at all, but it made me feel a bit happy.

"That is quite a coincidence. Today is the first day I'm allowed to go out. You've helped me several times, so to show my gratitude, let me treat you to a meal."

"Sure, sure, I'm actually hungry," Adam agreed cheerfully, and to prove he was really hungry, he even rubbed his stomach.

"What do you want to eat? I'm not familiar with this area, so if you know a good place, you can recommend it. You eat, and I'll pay."

Adam didn't decline and led me through the streets to a small restaurant.

"Let's eat here. The food is fantastic."

The owner warmly welcomed us and handed us the menu to order ourselves.
