Chapter 324 Nonsense

I couldn't even remember the last time we just chilled and held hands like this. We'd both been grinding hard for a better future.

Brad went, "Let's go pick out a gift."

I asked, "What gift?"

Brad flicked my earlobe and said, "Did you forget?"

I rubbed my ear, trying to remember what the heck he was talking about. Then it hit me—oh yeah, I promised to get a birthday gift for Jenny this morning. Honestly, I couldn't care less about people who didn't matter.

I scrunched up my nose and said, "Jenny's not important to me; why should I remember? But you seem to remember just fine. Guess Jenny's pretty special to you, huh? You've always ignored people who don't matter to you since we were kids."

I tried to pull my hand away from his. Partly 'cause I was annoyed he cared so much about Jenny, and partly 'cause it was after class and the campus was buzzing with teachers and students. Brad was the youngest, hottest, and most accomplished teacher around, so everyone knew him. We were getting some serious side-eye holding hands like this.

Brad just ignored my mood. He looked at me for a sec, said nothing, then grabbed my hand again, intertwining our fingers, and dragged me out of the campus gate.

We hit up a bunch of shopping centers and fancy stores for over an hour but still couldn't find the right gift. Mainly 'cause neither of us was any good at picking out gifts.

Since we started dating, Brad's rarely given me gifts. On holidays and birthdays, he just transferred money to me and told me to get whatever I wanted. Not super romantic, but hey, they say a guy's heart is where his money is. Brad's actions showed his heart was totally with me. I dug that kind of genuine devotion.

I got zero experience picking out gifts for a love rival, so it was tough. Plus, Jenny was an illegitimate daughter who was not officially recognized by the Taylor family but still got to enjoy their wealth. She didn't need anything money can buy.

Eating my ice cream, I asked, "What if we can't find a good gift by tomorrow?"

Brad took a sip of water and leaned back in his chair. "We gotta go, and we gotta pick out a gift," he said.

I sighed, "But there's nothing that fits."

Brad shrugged, "If we can't find something she needs, we'll just pick something we think is good enough."

I thought for a second and had a lightbulb moment. 'If it's up to us, then I'm making the call,' I decided.

After we finished our drinks and rested up, I dragged Brad back into the supermarket. In ten minutes, I grabbed what I thought was suitable, packed it up, and we bounced, already thinking about dinner.

Brad looked at me, totally surprised, his eyes scanning me up and down. "Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked, confused. "Not happy with the gift?"

Brad chuckled, "I didn't expect you to have such a strong sense of revenge."

I shrugged, "Not my problem. If you feel bad for her, you can deal with it yourself."

Brad shook his head. "Don't talk nonsense. Saying I feel sorry for her is just insulting."

After dinner, I was ready to head back to Crystal House to paint when Brad pulled me into a boutique.

I rubbed my sore ankle, not wanting to go in. "We already have a gift; why are we here? If you don't want me to go to Crystal House, can we just go home?"

Brad pulled me in, "We need to pick out a couple of outfits for you."

I protested, "I don't need clothes, no need to buy anything."

Brad insisted, "A birthday party is a formal occasion; I want you to be the most stunning girl there."

I thought, 'So Brad plans to take me to Jenny's birthday party?'

"There's no need to buy luxury items for that," I said, secretly pleased.

Brad smiled, "I don't really care if they're luxury items; I just think the two dresses in the window would look great on you."

The sales assistant, who had been hovering nearby, waited until we finished talking before sweetly leading us inside. "Sir, you have excellent taste. The two dresses in the window are limited editions. This lady will look especially beautiful in them."

The assistant's words made Brad happy. Usually indifferent to other women, Brad smiled and nodded approvingly at her.

Brad said, "Find her size and I'll take both. Bring out any new arrivals too."

The assistant brought out five long dresses in different styles and colors.

"Try this one first," Brad said, pointing to the dress in the window that had caught his eye.
