Chapter 486 Christmas Eve

Benjamin had been hiding somewhere, smoking who knows how many cigarettes, but man, the smell was strong.

Mia jumped a bit when she saw him. She turned around, saw it was Benjamin, and gave a polite smile and nod. "Goodbye."

"Why didn't you take the money I gave you?" Benjamin asked, not leaving.

Mia replied, "I don't have the right to take your money. Besides, if I need money, I can earn it myself."

Benjamin looked a bit embarrassed. He hunched his shoulders and grabbed the pillar next to him. "I owe you too much. That was my way of making it up to you, what you truly deserve." His voice was low and humble.

Mia looked outside and said calmly, "I was dating you back then, not prostituting."

Benjamin seemed to be hit hard, his body swayed, and he staggered back a step.

Maybe he still wanted Mia's forgiveness, but he should understand that it was never going to happen.

The lights in the hotel porch were super bright. Yancy walked out of the darkness, standing under the light with a gentle smile and delicate features.

Yancy reached out to Mia. "Mia, I'm here to pick you up."

Mia immediately perked up. She nodded to me, then turned around and ran off lightly.

Benjamin held onto the pillar, his eyes following Mia as she ran into Yancy's arms. Yancy put a scarf around her, holding her like she was a priceless treasure, and they gradually disappeared into the night.

I heard faint sobbing behind me, probably Benjamin crying over his own foolishness and cruelty.

I said, "She's found her love, don't disturb her anymore, Benjamin."

After a long while, Benjamin finally spoke, "I won't bother her anymore."

On the way back, Brad noticed I wasn't talking. While waiting at a red light, he brushed my cheek with the back of his hand and asked affectionately what was wrong. He also said that if he had known it would be like this, we might as well have gone to Snow City; it was a complete waste of time.

"Who do you think Jenny's child's father is?" This was the question I wanted to know the most.

Brad replied, "I don't know. Based on the months, she probably got pregnant during her time in Silverbrook City, but I never saw her getting too close with any man."

I said, "That's strange."

Brad held my hand and kissed it. "Why are you thinking so much? It's definitely not mine."

Before midnight that night, Hunter told us that Jenny had given birth to a boy via C-section.

When I heard the news, I was relieved.

I wasn't relieved for Jenny, but for Hunter.

Hunter organized the gathering. If anything had happened to Jenny, he would have been implicated.

On December 24th, the four of us landed in Regalia.

Yancy took Mia away directly, and Brad drove the car that had been parked for days to take me home.Christmas Eve was anything but quiet. The streets were lit up, and most shops were decked out, making everything look like a scene from a fairy tale.

"What are you looking at?" Brad asked softly, holding my hand.

I turned and smiled. "Just watching the people on the street. Being young is so nice."

Brad replied, "You're still very young."

"But when I was their age, I never went out to play." I felt a bit wistful.

My parents were pretty conservative. They didn't want me going out at night, always thinking it was unsafe.

I was really obedient back then. Whatever my parents said, I did. I never went out to play at night. I watched my friends dress up and go out, but I could only sit in the study and draw. I cried out of sadness sometimes.

But that's all in the past. I grew up well because of my parents' guidance.

Brad looked at me with eyes full of heartache. He pulled me into his arms, his big hand stroking my back. "Don't be sad. Wherever you want to go, I'll take you. Anywhere, as long as you like."

I asked, "Can we go on the Ferris wheel?"

I had heard that kissing at the top of the Ferris wheel at midnight could promise a lover in the next life.

Brad replied, "Sure, let's go now. I hope the amusement park isn't closed."

"Okay," I said.

Brad chuckled and ruffled my hair, saying I hadn't grown up yet.

He always looked at me with that gentle and indulgent gaze. Whenever he did, I felt like I wasn't his girlfriend but his most beloved daughter.

The amusement park was bustling, filled with young men and women wearing glittering headpieces, the noise of the crowd, and deafening music overhead.

Brad said, "Hold my hand tight. There are a lot of people; be careful not to get lost."

Brad held my hand as we weaved through the crowd. It took us almost thirty minutes to reach the Ferris wheel.

As I wished, the amusement park wasn't closed, but the Ferris wheel wasn't operating.

A sign hung at the Ferris wheel entrance, reading: [Under Maintenance.]

I looked at the sign, feeling dejected.

"Sweetheart, I see there's a monkey cart ride over there. It's safe and cute. How about we go on that instead?" Brad couldn't bear to see me disappointed and pointed to an area with fewer people in line.

The so-called monkey cart ride was a circular controller with about twenty connecting rods radiating outward. At the end of each rod was a little monkey in a red outfit pulling a small cart.

When the switch was turned on, the monkeys would hop to the music, moving in one direction, making it look like they were pulling the carts.

I was annoyed.

Although the Ferris wheel being under maintenance disappointed me, there were so many other rides in the amusement park. I wasn't about to ride something so childish.

I specifically observed the small carts behind the monkeys, and even a slightly chubby child would have trouble fitting in them.
