Chapter 454 Lost

So, it turned out that between Brad and me, he was the one who'd been feeling insecure all along.

"I said you're the one I love. What's wrong with that? Or is it that the person you love isn't me?" I said, staring straight into Brad's eyes without blinking.

Testing Brad's love for me like this felt a bit childish.

But testing wasn't the point. I said those things to let him know that while he loved me, I loved him too. My love for him was just as strong as his for me.

Sure enough, the joy in Brad's beautiful eyes turned into delight, and delight into pure ecstasy.

A look of pure satisfaction spread across Brad's face.

He said, "Baby, you know what? You hardly ever say 'love.' There were times when I wondered if all of this was just a dream, if you weren't really with me. But hearing you say 'love' today makes me so happy. Thank you, baby, for loving me. I love you too, very, very much—the kind of love that can only be you."

I hugged Brad back, turned my face, and pressed a deep kiss onto his soft lips. "Brad, I love you too, more than anything—the kind of love that can only be for you."

"Baby, you scared me just now. You need to make it up to me and comfort me." Just moments ago, Brad was overflowing with deep affection, but in an instant, he transformed into an adorable big dog, looking at me with those longing eyes, waiting for my reassurance.

I hadn't done anything—how did I scare him? Besides, wasn't I the one looking for comfort and reassurance? How did a few words completely flip the situation, making him the one who needed comforting?

Brad's eyes were full of laughter as he hugged me tightly for a moment before letting go, restarting the car, and merging into traffic.

I sat beside him, inhaling his scent, wishing this peaceful moment could last forever.

The car quickly exited the main road and finally stopped.

By then, I was already a bit drowsy. Before I could see clearly where we were, Brad scooped me up and rushed inside.

As I gradually came to my senses, I realized I was comfortably lying on the soft, crisp white bed in the hotel.

Brad's strong and powerful body covered mine, bringing with it the slight chill of an early spring night, smelling wonderful.

Brad's kiss was overwhelming; I had nowhere to escape, so I just gave in to it.

But shouldn't we have eaten something before doing something so physically demanding? I hadn't had dinner yet, and I was really hungry!

The intimacy we once shared played back in my mind like a movie—sweet kisses and gentle yet powerful lovemaking; everything was so beautiful.

This night might not be easy.

Brad's body was so warm that I feared I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Honestly, I was genuinely hungry.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, burying my flushed face in his chest, and whispered, "I want to take a shower.""After we make love, baby. I've missed you so much." Brad's eyes were filled with urgency, like he couldn't wait another second.

When Brad carried me to the bathroom to clean up, I had a moment of clarity, and all I could think about was how hungry I was since I hadn't had dinner yet.

Early the next morning, before I was fully awake, my phone kept ringing.

I turned my naked body under the covers, too tired and lazy to pretend I didn't hear it. Brad sighed and picked up my phone to answer.

"Elliot, what's up so early?" Brad's voice was hoarse, but it had that unique sexy edge.

Elliot's mischievous laughter came through the phone, his arrogant voice clear as day. "Brad, still in bed?"

Brad was wide awake, his brow slightly furrowed, yet his eyes were warm as he glanced at me. He spoke to Elliot in a curt tone, "If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, just hang up."

Elliot exclaimed, "Don't hang up. Bronte's team is all here, and we're heading into the mountains before noon. Brad, ask Jane if she's going. We'll be staying there for a few days, so if she's going, she needs to pack thoroughly. If not, it's fine; she's an extra anyway."

Before we set off, it was decided that work would begin immediately as soon as Bronte's team arrived. If this exploration yielded excellent results and could be successfully mined, it would greatly help Bronte's graduate thesis as a third-year graduate student nearing graduation.

At this, I dragged my tired body out of bed.

"Do you really have to go? I'm concerned you won't have the energy for it." Brad pulled back the covers and sat up, his chiseled chest even more defined in the morning light. Unfortunately, the covers blocked my view of his abs, which was such a shame.

"So, can I trouble you to carry me to the bathroom?" I said, lifting Brad's well-defined chin with my fingertip.

"With pleasure," Brad said with a joyful laugh, catching my fingertip and kissing it before getting up, fully exposing his strong body to the air.

This time, I caught a glimpse of his well-defined eight-pack abs—truly irresistible.

As Brad carried me for that brief moment, I deliberately let my hand glide over his abs. They were smooth, firm, and strong—an incredible sensation.

However, just that one touch instantly filled his eyes with desire.

Brad gritted his teeth and said, "You started it; don't blame me if I can't control myself."

He then threw me back onto the bed.

After making love, I opened my eyes again and picked up my phone. It was already 10:30 a.m.

We were supposed to leave at noon, and I hadn't prepared anything.

I quickly tried to get out of bed, but a lingering soreness pulled me back down. I took a deep breath, hoping to ease the discomfort.

When I finally managed to get out of bed, I belatedly realized the room was unusually quiet. Brad wasn't in the room.

Looking at the empty space beside me, I couldn't help but sigh softly.

I had seen this coming, so I wasn't too disappointed—just incredibly sad.
