Chapter 514 Cooking for a Year
Ryan's evasive and fearful eyes told me that it wasn't that he couldn't speak, but that he didn't dare to.
In other words, Ryan was afraid of Adam.
This made me curious about Adam's identity.
"This is between me and my girlfriend, none of your business," Ryan shouted from a distance.
Adam raised an eyebrow and asked me coldly, "Are you his girlfriend?"
I quickly denied, "No, no, no, we broke up more than half a year ago. We have nothing to do with each other now. Don't believe him. He's intentionally harassing me, yes, harassing."
Adam's lips curled slightly, and a glimmer appeared in his eyes. "Did you hear that? What else do you have to say?"
Ryan stood up straight, his face full of unwillingness, and his eyes filled with anger as if they were about to catch fire. He glared at Adam as if he wanted to tear him apart.
Adam nonchalantly put his hands in his pockets and took two steps forward with a faint smile.
He was thin and young, but his presence was incredibly oppressive.
He advanced step by step, successfully forcing Ryan to retreat until Ryan turned and left in embarrassment.
"This time I'll let it go, but if I catch you bullying girls again, I won't let you off."
Ryan's back stiffened, his steps paused slightly, and then he quickly left.
Jane clapped her hands, spat at Ryan's fleeing figure, and laughed, calling him a coward who didn't even dare to resist. She said he was talking nonsense about wanting to atone and compensate.
I didn't know how much Ryan heard, but I heard it all and was amused.
"Adam, thank you for helping us out," Jane walked up with a smile. "I didn't expect someone as thin as you to be so strong."
"Thanks for the compliment."
Adam walked away between Jane and me.
"Amelia, don't you think Adam is quite handsome?"
I nodded, "Yes."
"Do you have any thoughts about dating him?" Jane nudged me with her shoulder, winking mischievously.
"Get lost. There are plenty of handsome guys on the street. Am I supposed to date all of them?"
"I just feel like the way he looks at you is different from the way he looks at me. I have a feeling something might happen between you two in the future. I'm just trying to speed things up."
"Get lost."
Jane reluctantly shut her mouth.
That night, when we got home, we lay on the couch eating chips and watching TV. She started rambling again, "Amelia, don't you think Adam and Ryan look somewhat alike? Do you think they might be related?"
I ignored her, but she continued, "Isn't there always that kind of plot in novels where the male lead and the second male lead are fierce rivals, only to discover at some point that they have a mysterious blood relationship, taking the plot in a more mysterious direction? Just like now, you're caught between Adam and Ryan, just waiting for a chance to prove they're related. I'm quite looking forward to it."
She made me laugh in exasperation.
I had only been in Regalia for a few days and had only met Adam twice. How could she jump to conclusions about me and Adam?
Besides, whether Adam and Ryan are related has nothing to do with me.
I righteously told Jane that nothing would ever happen between Adam and me, and she actually wanted to bet with me, "Amelia, let's set a three-year limit. If nothing happens between you and Adam in three years, I'll give you a life-sized portrait. If Adam pursues you, you have to cook for me for a year."
Back then, I was focused on my career and making money, with no intention of dating in the short term. I confidently shook hands with her to seal the deal and then forgot about it.
I passed the interview smoothly, and the next step was a two-week pre-job training.
I packed my bags and, along with another girl who was also accepted, embarked on the journey to the training center.
By the time we arrived, it was already evening, and we checked into the guesthouse arranged by the bureau.
When I entered the lobby, I saw quite a few people, and upon inquiry, I found out they were all there for the training. As young people who would become colleagues in the future, we quickly started chatting.
I shared a room with a girl named Aurelia Kingsley.
After settling my luggage, having dinner, and visiting each other, it was already late.
Aurelia had already gone to bed, and the light blue bed curtain blocked my view. I could only hear her soft voice, her gentle laughter, and occasional coquettish remarks, clearly talking to her beloved boyfriend.
Looking at my silent phone, I couldn't help but feel melancholic.
I was also a girl who once longed for sweet love and the care and affection of a beloved boy.
Unfortunately, all I got in return for my love was Ryan's coldness and betrayal.
I tried so hard to love someone, why did it end like this? Was I unworthy of being loved?
As I thought about it, tears involuntarily welled up in my eyes.
That year, I was punished for picking up trash on the school playground and crying out of anger.
I couldn't understand why, even though the bad guy bullied the weak and I fought back to help, I was the one punished. It felt so unfair, and I sat on the platform crying.
At that time, I was just a newly adult girl, very fragile, unable to bear such an outcome, and feeling extremely wronged.
Ryan suddenly appeared, smiling and saying he would help me pick up the trash, like a god descending from the sky, lighting up my dark world.
Later, I found out he was an employee at a nearby company, newly arrived in Sunhaven, and was wandering around during his break to get familiar with the area.
He saw me crying and found it interesting, so he came over to say hello.
