Chapter 329 Romance

"That's a bummer. Jenny's getting hitched, but she's still all over Brad? Isn't she worried her fiancé's gonna flip out? And if she messes up the wedding, won't Mrs. Taylor go ballistic?"

"Who knows? Maybe she's got her reasons. Maybe she just wants one last fling before tying the knot. Brad's a looker, even I can't deny that."

Hearing that, I sighed. "Brad, isn't Jenny kinda pathetic too?"

Brad snorted, pinched my cheek, and said, "Don't believe everything you hear. Sometimes, it's all just noise. Treat it like a story."

I said, "No way! She wouldn't set up people to say that stuff just for us to hear, right?"

I couldn't believe those conversations were aimed at us on purpose.

Jenny was already in the thick of it, no need for her to stage such petty scenes. I couldn't care less why it was happening.

"Figured it out? My baby's getting smarter." Brad looked around to make sure no one was watching, then he leaned down and planted a hard kiss on my lips.

I playfully punched Brad's shoulder, but he caught my hand and held it. He said, "Her situation's out of our hands. If she ditched the idea of joining the Taylor family and settled for a normal life, maybe she could dodge all this drama. In the end, it's her greed that's messed her up."

I said, "You're Jenny's dream."

Brad said, "We all have different dreams at different times, but most of them are just fantasies. The more dreams you have, the more letdowns you face. It's better to rely on your own hustle. Like you, with your talent and smarts, you can live a life you love on your own. Isn't that awesome?"

When we got home that night, the vibe in the house was off.

Yancy was alone in the kitchen, busy with an apron on, occasionally glancing at Mia, who was sitting on the couch, looking all worried and stressed.

Brad and I exchanged a look. To dodge the drama, we quickly said hi and bolted to our room.

Brad went to take a shower while I flopped on the bed, scrolling through my phone. Just then, Helen called.

I switched to a video call, and Helen's loving face and Ronan's half-shoulder popped up on the screen.

"Sweetie, what are you up to? Painting?" Helen, in her long-sleeved pajamas, kept staring at my face.

Maybe all moms are like this; no matter how old their kids get, they can never get enough of looking at them and always worry, wishing they could be there all the time.

Facing Helen's question, I felt a bit guilty. I seemed to be slacking off on my career for the sake of love. I should seriously get back to painting; the FutureVision project needed to be prioritized.

"Helen, do you think I've gotten prettier?" I awkwardly switched gears.

"Of course, my beautiful daughter. You're our greatest masterpiece; naturally, you're stunning." Ronan's face popped up, showing that mature, middle-aged charm.

Mom always said Dad was a total heartthrob back in the day, with women lining up to marry him.

But Dad only had eyes for Mom. No matter how many women threw themselves at him, he stayed loyal, creating this epic love story and living happily ever after.

My boyfriend, in both talent and looks, was right up there with Dad. Over the years, plenty of women tried to get with Brad, but he shut them all down. But life is long, and more would likely come along. Right now, there was Jenny, bold as brass, and I was figuring out how to deal with her.

Just then, Helen's call came through, and I felt like I needed her advice.

Wise Helen saw right through me and kicked Ronan out of the room, giving us some girl talk time.

After I hesitantly spilled my thoughts, Helen got serious.

Helen said, "Sweetie, love and family need care. For your problem, remember these words: trust, loyalty, tolerance, and determination. If you both can nail these, you'll have a lifetime of happiness."

I asked, "Helen, are you happy with Dad?"

Helen glanced at the bedroom door. I knew she could see the living room couch from there, where Ronan was probably waiting to come back in.

Helen said, "I've been with your dad for over twenty years. He's given me the greatest tolerance and deepest love. With him, I can be myself. He spoils and loves me. Being with your dad makes me very happy."

I looked at the happiness on Helen's face, hoping my future could be like hers, being treated like a princess forever.

Ronan said, "Sweetheart, what's got you all sentimental? You're making me tear up. Having you in this life makes me very happy too. If there's a next life, I'll still find you and be with you."

I thought, 'Wow, Dad's even more romantic than Mom.'

I felt super envious.

Helen's eyes were teary from Ronan's words, and she blushed. She lightly punched Ronan's shoulder, who had moved back next to her, and said playfully, "What are you saying in front of our daughter?"

Ronan hugged Helen and kept signaling to me. I got so annoyed that I hung up. I wanted to chat with Helen, but instead, I ended up feeling envious of their relationship.
