Chapter 150: Regression

He was in a world of hurt, but still thinking about me, feeling bad for me.

Brad, he treated me so good, how could I let him be so desperate?

"Brad, I'll take care of Daniel." It was the least stressful and easiest way to help Brad.

"No, our problems ain't your problems, you don't need to sacrifice." Brad's bloodshot eyes went wide, and among all the emotions he was holding back, anger burst out.

"No, I won't allow it. Don't worry, I'll figure it out." Brad grabbed my shoulders and shook me hard, his tears hitting my face like hot lava.

He was like a trapped beast, roaring in grief and anger, unable to contain his despair and pain.

My heart suddenly ached, like it was being stabbed by a thousand needles.

"Brad, chill, listen to me, Brad, relax, listen to me. I'm not leaving you, never thought about it, I won't leave you." I tried to comfort him.

Brad's grip hurt, but I couldn't struggle, I just held him back with all my strength.

"Don't leave, Jane, please, don't leave me." Brad choked.

"I won't leave, Brad. I'll talk to Emma, I'll take care of Daniel, but just take care of him, I won't be with him.

Honestly, I don't care about him, whether he lives or dies means nothing to me. But he's your brother, and I know all the torment you've been through. If he's gone, you'll blame yourself, and what Emma said will haunt you. Then, we’d really be over.

Brad, I want to be with you, I don't want to be apart. So I'll take care of him, and when he's better, when he's healthy, we can be together without any burden, we can be happy.

Isn't that right, Brad, don't you think I'm right?"

Brad was too fragile now, so I had to be patient, carefully coaxing him.

"You're right, but I can't stand it." He held me tight, looking deep into my eyes.

His embrace gradually warmed. Even those eyes that had been so gloomy started to brighten.

He whispered, "Don't say anymore, baby, you're so good, it breaks my heart. Jane, you should go back to Helen and Ronan, don't worry about us. Leave everything to me, and when it's all sorted, I'll come find you. Be good, go back."

"I don't want to, Brad, I'm so scared that if I leave now, we won't have a future together. I still want to be with you for a long, long time, I want you to kneel down in a sea of flowers and propose to me, I want you to hold me and sit in the wedding car. I also want to have two babies, they'll call me mom and call you dad. So, I won't leave you alone. Brad, don't push me away."

"I won't. I love you so much, how could I push you away? I just can't stand seeing you suffer."

After a while, Brad finally calmed down, and he accepted my suggestion. He took me to find Emma.

After that day, my feelings for Emma hit rock bottom. If it weren't for Brad, I'd never want to deal with her again. I even started thinking that someone who could be so cruel to her own son might have had some shady reasons for liking me since I was a kid.

"I'll take care of Daniel, but whether he wakes up or not, that's outta my hands."

"Okay, Jane, as long as you're willing to take care of him, that's good. Thank you, thank you." Emma was surprised and then happy. She stood up and tried to take my hand, but I stepped back and dodged her.

"But, let's get one thing straight. I'm just taking care of him, I won't be with him. Daniel and I are long over, the person I like is Brad. Even if Brad and I can't be together in the end, the person I like will never be Daniel."

"Don't talk nonsense, we will definitely be together, no one can separate us, not even death." Brad playfully patted my face, and I responded with a charming smile.

Emma's face looked a bit sour, her mouth opened a few times, but she didn't say anything in the end.

I got what she meant, it was already tough for me to make this concession, if she pushed her luck, I might just take it all back. She probably never thought that the girl who grew up by her side, always soft and smiling, would become so determined.

As I turned around, I saw a hint of guilt on her face.

She probably wanted to apologize to me just now, but it was too late.

She hurt me too much. And no one could just pretend nothing happened after being hurt like that.

I told Helen about my decision, and Helen was quiet for a bit. "Jane, if you think it's right, then do it, we all support you. But we won't go to the hospital anymore, if you have any problems, call home immediately."

After I hung up, Brad held me and kept saying he was useless, making me suffer with him.

"Suffer then, I like it, no one can do anything about it." I smiled and answered him.

In the evening, the doctor said Daniel's condition was stable, and he was temporarily moved to a regular ward.

Hugh found the department head to arrange Daniel in a single room because of his serious condition.

The single room had the bed in the center, with two accompanying chairs by the window that could unfold into beds. There was a small TV opposite the bed for watching anytime. It also had a private bathroom and two small round stools.

Hugh and Emma sat on the chair by the window, while Brad, who hadn't slept well for days, was forced by me to lie down on the other chair to rest.

Brad was reluctant, but I sternly told him that if he didn't listen, I'd get mad, and when I got mad, I'd cry, which finally made him settle down.

I sat next to him for less than ten minutes before he fell asleep.

After several trips to the emergency room, Daniel was so thin that he was just skin and bones, looking pretty scary.

Seeing him like this made me feel bad too, after all, we grew up together.
