Chapter 273: Speculation

Mindy shot Louis a surprised look, her eyes lighting up with joy, and her cheeks turning a rosy red. She quickly grabbed his hand, leaning into his arm, and grinned, saying she was craving steak.

Out of Louis's sight, Mindy gave me a smug look, clearly showing off.

I couldn't help but laugh in frustration.

Louis ruffled her hair, put his hand on her shoulder, and guided her to the back seat.

I suddenly felt like I was crashing their private moment.

If it weren't for me, Mindy would probably be riding shotgun.

So, Mindy and I ended up in the back seat together. She still seemed a bit in disbelief, sneaking glances at Louis through the rearview mirror. Whenever their eyes met, she'd see his smile and quickly pretend to look outside, all shy.

I watched for a bit and then grinned at Mindy until her face turned beet red, and she awkwardly looked away.

"Congrats, Mindy," I said, making her blush even more.

Louis obviously heard my not-so-quiet whisper and smiled.

The steak dinner was a blast for everyone, especially Mindy. Louis pampered her the whole time, making her super happy.

Grad school in the second year was crazy busy, with tons of activities. Larry, wanting to mentor me, started taking me around, saying with my talent and skills, I'd definitely become a famous artist. He wanted to introduce me to people in the industry and help me network.

I, Jane, just an ordinary girl, was so lucky to have such an awesome teacher!

That afternoon, I was putting the final touches on a painting at Crystal House when Larry showed up out of the blue.

There were four of us in the room, including me. The other three were younger girls from our department. When they saw Larry walk in, they all jumped up excitedly to greet him, nervous and thrilled.

Larry walked over with a smile and gave each of them feedback on their work, which really moved them.

As for me, I finished the last stroke of my painting before standing up to greet Larry.

It wasn't that I didn't respect my teacher, but Larry had once said that painting shouldn't be influenced by any external conditions. Having been taught by Larry for years, if I couldn't even control this, I'd really be letting him down.

I asked him why he came to Crystal House, but Larry just gave me a mysterious smile and told me to go change into a dress and look more formal because he was taking me out.

When Larry gave an order, I had to follow.

Since my home was a bit far and I was worried about being late, I remembered I still had a few dresses left in my apartment, so I went there to find one that met Larry's requirements.

Mindy wasn't there, which was a relief. Saved me the hassle of explaining everything to her.

I slipped into a light blue long dress, added a sparkly headband, and put on some light lip gloss. I looked both lively and classy.

When Larry saw me, his eyes lit up with amazement, and then he started grumbling about how his wife never gave him a daughter.

When we got there, I realized it was a high-society shindig. High society basically means two things: money and power, or family heritage and culture.

Brad had mentioned before that Larry's family had a history of over two hundred years. They had deep roots, not just with tons of money but also a top spot in the cultural world.

So, they, along with the Bailey family of Regalia, were the cultural trendsetters in Regalia.

When Brad first mentioned it, I didn't think much of it. Later, I found out the Bailey family was Yancy's family. That's when I realized how high-class Yancy was. And how lucky Mia was to have met him and to be loved and protected by him for life.

The gathering was at the top floor hall of the Dreamscape Inn. The decor looked simple at first glance, but up close, it screamed understated luxury. Even the paintings on the walls were by world-renowned artists, and they were crazy expensive.

The hall was packed with elegant, composed people, all dressed to the nines, acting like they were the stars of the event.

I, just a grad student from National Capital University, was personally introduced by Larry, which got everyone’s attention.

Almost everyone was checking me out, whispering about who I was and where I came from. Some even speculated I had some secret relationship with Larry. Why else would he bring an ordinary student like me to such a fancy event?

These people used their own dirty minds to guess about my relationship with Larry, just to soothe their own jealousy.

I was straight-up and honest with Larry. I respected him, and he valued my talent!

My outfit wasn’t as pricey as theirs. Besides a pair of pearl earrings, I had no other jewelry, keeping it simple and elegant. But my demeanor was pure and noble.

I followed Larry around the hall and surprisingly made some good connections. I added the contacts of several influential people. I couldn't help but feel thrilled. This trip was totally worth it, and Larry's efforts paid off.

There are still good people in this world.

Unfortunately, I spotted Louis's mom, the mean woman who had come to my apartment and scolded me in front of everyone.
