Chapter 484 Cultivation

The girl was always the one to kick off the conversation. When Jenny heard this, she shot a quick glance at Brad and me, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and said shyly, "It's been almost ten months now, and the due date is just a few days away. When my baby arrives, I'll treat you all to a meal. What do you want to eat? I'll make sure it's the best."

Someone chimed in right away, and the mood lightened up.

I felt like I had a heavy, damp cotton ball stuck in my chest, making it hard to breathe, and I struggled to look away from her belly.

"Is Jenny married?" Mia asked me.

I replied, "I haven't heard."

Mia said, "Me neither. So where did this baby come from?"

I responded, "I don't know."

Jenny said she had been pregnant for almost ten months, which meant she conceived around March. Back then, I didn't remember Jenny being close to any guy who could be the father.

"Jenny's about to give birth and she's still out and about. Isn't she worried about going into labor on the way? Jenny's so irresponsible, she doesn't deserve to be a mom," Mia huffed.

She couldn't stand anyone being bad to kids, even unborn ones.

I replied, "Isn't there usually a process?"

"Who knows if Jenny's normal or not." Unexpectedly, Mia's words came true. Jenny's arrival not only ruined a hard-earned gathering but also freaked everyone out.

Brad didn't care about Jenny showing up; he didn't even glance at her and kept chatting with the people nearby.

Jenny, on the other hand, had gained weight over the past half year but hadn't made much progress. Her eyes kept darting towards Brad's face.

Jenny was making it clear to everyone that her feelings for Brad hadn't faded.

I had no idea how Brad felt about Jenny staring at him like that, but it made me feel awful, so annoyed that I wanted to punch someone.

Whose kid was Jenny carrying? All along, besides Brad, I hadn't heard of her being close to any other guy.

No one there seemed to know if Jenny was married or who the father of her baby was.

From the moment she walked into the private room to sitting down, Jenny kept a reserved high profile, a mix of wanting to show off and being discreet, which she pulled off perfectly.

Jenny acted like she didn't know us, and naturally, we didn't greet her. Ever since we found out that Jenny's supposed life-saving favor to Brad was fake, Jenny was nothing but a disgusting piece of trash to Brad and me.

Once the dishes were served, Brad focused on me, constantly serving me my favorite foods. I enjoyed the meal in peace, ignoring Jenny, who was trying to show off across from me.

She deserved it.

The atmosphere at the table wasn't lively; the expected excitement of reuniting after so many years didn't happen, which was pretty disappointing.

You could say this gathering was a total flop.Hunter was pretty bummed; things didn't go as he hoped.

He secretly messaged Brad, explaining that he hadn't told Jenny about the gathering and had no clue how she found out.

Hunter: [Brad, if I had known that bitch would show up, I wouldn't have organized this.]

Brad glanced at the message and handed his phone to me. "Baby, I need to talk to him. You handle it."

I took the phone. [As long as Jenny isn't embarrassed, then it's others who will be. Shameless people are always like that.]

Hunter: [This is my fault this time. If Jenny tries anything, I'll be the first to hit her. Enjoy your meal.]

[Thanks, Hunter.]

I was happily eating when Jenny suddenly acted like she had a mental breakdown and said, "Brad, you're here too. I just saw you and didn't greet you in time, how embarrassing. It's been a long time. Let's chat when we go sing later."

Seriously?

Jenny greeted so naturally, as if nothing had ever happened, and she was still the girl who admired Brad.

I happened to put a fried shrimp in my mouth, but hearing Jenny's words, I almost threw up. To avoid ruining everyone's appetite, I forced down the strong feeling of nausea.

Brad instantly turned cold. "I'm not familiar with you. Please call me Mr. Pitt. It's fine if Ms. Taylor doesn't greet me; it only makes me hungrier. I brought my beloved here, and I don't want her to misunderstand anything trivial. Please remember your place." His words left Jenny with no dignity, which surprised everyone.

Everyone here was highly educated and emotionally intelligent. In such an environment, no matter how unhappy they might be, no one would speak hurtfully. It was just basic manners.

Brad was the most successful among us, relying on his own abilities, so his behavior was indeed surprising.

People glanced between Brad and Jenny and then understood.

For someone who fabricated a life-saving favor and falsely accused him, no one could say anything nice.

Empathizing with Brad, everyone understood his actions and chose to ignore the scene.

This had nothing to do with personal manners.

Jenny was visibly embarrassed when she heard this, her eyes scanning the room and noticing that no one seemed ready to back her up. She forced a weak smile and said, "Brad, I was just saying hello after such a long time. I truly didn't mean any harm. Besides, Jane is very understanding; she wouldn't take it the wrong way."

So Jenny noticed me.

That annoying Jenny—she didn't know me. How could she assume whether I would misunderstand? What right did she have to make that decision for me?

Jenny must have forgotten how I had left her at a loss for words before. I wouldn't have minded reminding her.

The Jane of that time was no longer the fool who just hid behind Brad.
