Chapter 476 Discussion

Even though the gift wasn't super fancy, it was still pretty valuable for a regular family.

"Mom, when did you get this? How come I had no clue?" Brad asked, wiping his face.

Emma beamed, "You never come home, so how would you know? Your dad and I went to a ton of jewelry stores to find this. The store owner said it's the latest trend and really popular. Jane, do you like it?"

She looked at me with a proud smile.

How was I supposed to respond to that?

I didn't really like the style; it was too old-fashioned. But I couldn't say that—it would hurt their feelings.

My mom always taught me that lying isn't what good kids do.

"This is too much; I can't accept it." I pushed the jewelry box back towards Emma.

Emma insisted, "This is my gift to you. And here's a card with $500,000 on it. House prices in Regalia are high, so you can use it for a down payment. Hugh and I will help with the mortgage. This way, your life will be a bit easier. Take it."

When I heard there was a bank card with $500,000 on it, I absolutely couldn't accept it. I quickly stood up and pushed the card back into Emma's hands.

It seemed Hugh's family didn't know how much Brad could earn or how much he had.

For an average family, $500,000 was a lot. A working-class family without extra income would have to save up for that.

Not to mention, Brad and I didn't lack money and didn't need our parents to buy us a house. Even if we did need money, we wouldn't want to drain our parents' life savings to live comfortably while they struggled.

So I couldn't accept this money.

Besides, in Regalia, $500,000 wouldn't go very far. Brad and I had already decided to buy a house ourselves without our parents' money.

Seeing me refuse, Emma got anxious and insisted I take it.

I firmly refused, and Emma suddenly started crying, "Jane, are you still mad at me? It was all my fault in the past. Can you forgive me? I just want you and Brad to be happy. You can hate me forever, and I'll accept it. I know $500,000 isn't much, but please take it. Hugh and I will work hard to save more money for you."

Suddenly, I didn't know what to say.

I was just feeling awkward and didn't want to hurt anyone. I definitely didn't mean what Emma was implying.

At this moment, Daniel suddenly spoke up, "Jane, didn't you swear you'd follow Brad to the end? Now that our whole family is proposing marriage, why aren't you saying anything? Did you not really like Brad? Do you not want to marry him?"

I could tolerate anything anyone else said, whether it was pleasant or not. But Daniel had no right or position to comment on my affairs. If it weren't for him, would Brad and I have gone through all that crap?

Anger bubbled up inside me, and before I knew it, I snapped, "Why do I have to marry Brad? Why can't he marry me?"

The whole restaurant went dead silent.

My parents' jaws dropped. Rachel and Daniel looked like they'd seen a ghost, and Hugh and Emma exchanged confused glances.

I was shocked too. I didn't mean to say that out loud, so why did it just slip out?

Emma stammered, "Jane, is that what you mean?" She turned to Helen and asked, "Helen, is that what you mean too? Let Brad marry Jane?"

I covered my face, too embarrassed to look at anyone.

Brad wouldn't use this as an excuse to get back at me, would he?

Hugh chimed in, "Ronan, do you want Brad to marry Jane? But..."

My parents, noticing the shift, felt the need to clarify, "No, Hugh, we actually..."

They were busy explaining, but I could see from their faces that they were pretty pleased with this unexpected twist.

Ronan had always been worried about me marrying into another family, fearing I'd be mistreated and that he wouldn't see me often.

If Brad married into our family, all those worries would disappear.

"That wouldn't be a problem." Before my parents could finish, Hugh interrupted.

Emma added, "If Hugh agrees, then I agree too. Fine, let's settle it. I still have another son, so it's fine. Brad marrying Jane is good. He'll take Jane's last name, Hanks. We'll handle everything as usual, just changing the groom to the bride."

I was speechless, covering my face and peeking at Brad through my fingers.

Sure enough, Brad's expression was a mix of emotions. His facial muscles twitched as he tried to keep it together.

Both sets of parents were super open-minded and immediately started a new round of discussions based on the new plan, leaving Brad and me out of it.

Six years had passed, and Emma and Helen still liked to make decisions for us without considering our opinions.

I leaned on Brad's shoulder and whispered, teasing him, "Brad, why aren't you saying anything? Do you really not want to marry me? I think about you day and night, but it seems you don't care about me at all."

He blinked, calmed his emotions, and smirked, "If my darling is willing to marry me, how could I refuse? You think about me day and night, and I miss you all the time too. So, when do you plan to marry me and fulfill my longing heart?"

Brad used my own words to turn the tables on me.

I was speechless.

Daniel and Rachel laughed mischievously, teasing Brad, "When is the bride planning to get married? Let us know so we can prepare a gift. What do you want? Tell us now so we have time to get ready."
