Chapter 337 Jenny's Arrival
They had no clue that booze to me was just bitter, spicy water. Other than needing to hit the john more often, I was totally fine. Whether they could handle it or not? Not my problem.
Brad was sitting up straight, eyes all misty, grinning as he watched me and his students go at it. Every time I knocked back a glass, his students would gasp, and he'd beam with pride.
On the outside, Brad looked all classy and composed, but I knew he was totally hammered.
Daniel chimed in, "Alright, Jane's a girl. How can she handle so much? I'll take over."
Daniel finally tried to step in and save me. Too bad I didn't need saving. I could handle this little party no sweat.
"No need, back off. My girl can handle it." Before I could tell him to buzz off, Brad, looking all serious, shoved Daniel aside. The look on his face made it seem like Daniel was just some trash, not his brother.
I laughed out loud; Daniel had it coming.
"Jane's a girl. If she drinks too much and gets sick, how are we gonna explain it to her folks?" Daniel shook off Brad's hand and tried to grab my glass, but I dodged.
I said, "Thanks, but I got this."
With that, I downed another glass.
My stomach burned a bit, so I grabbed a piece of toasted bread and took a bite. Both the taste and my mood were on point.
Daniel stood there, watching me down glass after glass without flinching. He finally went back to his seat, but his eyes never left me.
I cursed him silently, 'Take care of your new girl and stop trying to get my attention.'
"What are you staring at? My girl won't get drunk." Brad, annoyed, picked up something and chucked it at Daniel, leaving a greasy stain on his clothes.
Brad, pleased with his little prank, grinned like a kid, making Daniel's face darken with anger.
Drunk Brad was adorable. Leaning against my man, I watched the scene unfold and suddenly remembered the time Daniel had threatened to off himself.
If it weren't for Daniel's crazy stunt, I wouldn't have the happiness I share with Brad today.
Daniel was my bad luck, but he led me to the amazing Brad. I was content.
As the sun set, the view was picture-perfect.
A sweet voice suddenly broke the peace, and I realized what was missing.
Everything was too smooth and happy. But in a world with Jenny, how could we be allowed to be happy?
Jenny said, "So lively! Am I late?"
The moment her voice hit, Brad's back stiffened, his eyes widened, then narrowed, filled with barely hidden impatience and disgust.
I couldn't help but feel sorry. Loving someone should be a beautiful thing, but Jenny's actions had somehow twisted it into a reason for others to turn away.
As soon as her voice piped up, everyone went dead silent, shooting curious and puzzled looks at Jenny, who was being wheeled in with a whole entourage trailing behind her.
The Taylor family's illegitimate daughter sure knew how to make an entrance. Jenny had brought a whole squad!
Jenny rocked a long red dress, her curly hair half up in a bun, the rest flowing down. She had matching earrings, and her makeup was so on point it was almost over the top, giving off major queen vibes.
I wasn't into makeup, always felt like layers of skincare stuff were a hassle. For fancy events, I'd just slap on some lipstick and do my brows, keeping it super simple.
From the first time I met Jenny till now, every time I saw her, she was always dolled up. Even that first night she showed up, lying on the bed with her collar half open, her makeup was flawless.
Honestly, I had no clue if I'd even recognize her if she walked down the street without her makeup.
Brad's thick eyebrows furrowed; he was about to tell her to scram.
But his drunk self was a bit slow on the uptake. I put my hand on his, stopping him from saying anything.
Today's Jenny was different, with a determined look. I knew she wasn't here just to stir the pot. What was she up to on a day like today?
If Brad hadn't drunk so much, he could handle Jenny.
But Brad was pretty buzzed. Though he wasn't totally out of it, his reactions and understanding were slower than usual. I couldn't rely on him for this. Besides, he usually had my back. Now it was my turn to have his.
Daniel didn't know Jenny, but he sensed she was here for Brad and me. Without missing a beat, he walked over and stood by our side.
Rachel, always following Daniel's lead, also came over, standing behind him.
Adam quietly moved over, standing on my other side, and a few classmates from the studio followed, standing behind him.
In no time, Brad and I had two squads behind us, making it look like we were evenly matched with Jenny.
Jenny probably didn't expect this scene either. Though her face stayed calm, her eyes showed intense emotions.
"Who is she?" Daniel asked me in a low voice.
I replied, "Brad's stalker and savior."
Daniel nodded, a wicked smile curling his lips.
Though he didn't know Jenny, but when it came to Brad's savior, he got it immediately.
He had been part of that rescue mission and knew someone had saved Brad's life. But he had only heard of the person, never met or knew their name.
"She's come all the way here. Must be true love." Daniel crossed his arms, nodding at Jenny. "Let's welcome her. After all, she's Brad's savior."
I couldn't be bothered with Daniel.
But since Jenny had brought her squad here, it was necessary to welcome her. After all, she was Brad's savior.
