Chapter 373 Underwear
Clothing encompasses a wide range of items, including underwear, socks, and pajamas. Jenny was basically saying Brad didn't even need to pack his own underwear; she'd already handled it.
Who does Jenny think she is, picking out underwear for my boyfriend?
Did she even know Brad's size? I hadn't even bought him any yet. Was Jenny really going to be the first to buy Brad's underwear?
Unbelievable! I felt like I was about to lose it.
Jenny either didn't get my point or didn't care. She just nodded. "Of course, anyone working with the Taylor family gets special treatment."
Seriously? The Taylor family buys underwear for all their business partners? That's just weird.
I wondered how many families the Taylors had messed with like this. Had anyone ever stormed into their office to yell at them?
Brad's voice was icy. "Is it just you and me traveling? I haven't heard anything from the school."
Jenny replied, "Yes, this trip is about project design, which is top secret, so we can't bring too many people."
Brad asked, "Does the school know about this secret mission? Even though I represent National Capital University, I still need to report important stuff to them."
Brad stopped looking at Jenny and tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear. As he pulled his hand away, it brushed against my lips.
The winter wind was freezing, and Brad's hand was cold. When it touched my lips, I shivered, and my cheeks turned red. He didn't seem to notice and rubbed the back of his hand against his own lips.
I thought, 'Brad, is it really okay to be this sweet to me in front of Jenny, your admirer?'
Jenny was glaring at me like she wanted to rip me apart, her face full of resentment.
But no matter how much the Taylor family ignored or overlooked Jenny, she grew up in that world and got a different kind of education. At least when it came to handling emotions, she had an edge over us regular folks.
The anger and hatred flashed across Jenny's face, but she quickly got serious again. Still, the twitching of her facial muscles gave her away.
Jenny said, "Technically, once both parties agree to work together, Party B's people have to adjust according to Party A's needs. The school knows this, and it's an unwritten rule in the industry."
Brad was about to say something, but then his phone buzzed with a new call. He apologized and answered it.
It was probably someone from the school.
The voice on the other end wasn't loud, so even though I was leaning on Brad's shoulder, I could only catch a few words here and there.
The person kept talking, and Brad listened closely.
As he listened, his eyebrows furrowed, and his eyes got serious.
That was the clearest sign Brad was frustrated.
Brad said, "Okay, I'll follow the school's arrangements and go on this trip."
After hanging up, Brad was fuming.
"What happened?" I asked, worried.
Brad snorted. "They just told me I have to go on this business trip right away."
I asked, "What's Jenny up to?"
Brad said coldly, "Jenny is always scheming. There's no way I'm letting her succeed."
Jenny had just announced the trip, and then the school leader called Brad. It was obvious the school knew about it and was on board.
But come on, a legit company would have a solid plan and wouldn't make decisions with a late-night phone call.
It was obvious this sudden trip was another one of Jenny's schemes. She wouldn't hesitate to get the school involved, so there had to be something big going on.
Right then, I felt pretty powerless. So did Brad. He couldn't say no to both the client and the school, so he had to swallow his anger and go along with this urgent trip.
Jenny was a client, and no matter how pissed off we were, we couldn't let our personal feelings mess up the cooperation.
Otherwise, it would not only cost the school a lot of money but also hurt Brad's reputation and the university's standing in the industry.
Brad called back, "The school informed me about the urgent trip. I'll pack my own stuff. But since you're so esteemed, I suggest you bring a personal assistant." Brad's tone was ice-cold.
After the school's call, Brad got even colder.
Since we couldn't change the facts, we had to learn to roll with it.
"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Pitt. My matters will be arranged by someone else." Jenny, having gotten what she wanted, didn't care about Brad's attitude and went back to her fake, pretentious self. The idea of an unmarried man and woman traveling alone was definitely worrying.
Brad, feeling sick to his stomach, nodded without any expression. "I was just being polite. Traveling can be a hassle, and with your health issues, it's best to have a few close attendants to avoid affecting work."
Maybe Jenny wanted them to travel alone; with her health condition, she'd need personal care. Without anyone else around, that responsibility would naturally fall on Brad.
She had it all planned out, but Brad wasn't having it!
Jenny, sharp enough to handle such a big project alone, didn't miss Brad's disgusted expression.
Jenny froze. "This is my private matter, and it will be handled by someone else. No need for you to worry."
"That's for the best." Brad said coldly and was about to hang up when Jenny quickly added, "The flight is at 10:30 PM. Let's meet at the school gate in an hour and head to the airport together."
10:30 PM? I pulled out my phone and checked the time. It was 8:15 PM. What could be packed in an hour? No wonder Jenny said personal items were optional; she wanted Brad to wear the underwear she bought.
No way, I couldn't let her win. I'd go home and pack his underwear first.
Every year, my parents helped me with my luggage, so I had no experience in packing.
I packed everything I thought he'd need, from suits and shoes to cigarettes and lighters; I packed plenty of underwear.
Last time, Brad and I bought a lot of underwear at the supermarket. I packed all the unused ones for him. I also packed three sets of pajamas that covered him up tightly.
Brad laughed, saying he was just going on a business trip and would be back soon. I had packed enough underwear for half a year, like I didn't plan for him to return.
I clapped my hands and said with a smile, "Better safe than sorry. If you go to a place with a severe water shortage, you won't waste water washing underwear; you can just throw them away after wearing."
Speaking of water shortage, I thought that if there was no water to wash his face there, I couldn't let Brad meet people without washing his face. I quickly grabbed two packs of skin-friendly wet wipes and threw them on top of the pile.
With all this packing, it was already 9 PM.
Jenny sent a message, urging Brad to meet at the school gate at 9:45 PM.
