Chapter 508 I Gave in

So, today’s blind date was a total disaster. The guy seemed honest enough, but man, his looks were something else.

He showed up in these formal dress pants, with a belt cinched way below his belly, and a gray shirt with pink stripes that barely contained his round gut. The shirt was awkwardly tucked into his pants. His face was big and round, with thick lips, a flat nose, and a shiny bald forehead that showed off his scalp.

The matchmaker said he was some minor leader at a company.

As soon as he sat down, he started rambling non-stop about his amazing job history and his crucial role at the company. When he got excited, he spat everywhere, and his eyes darted around like crazy. I felt super nauseous.

I forced myself to listen, but all I could think was, 'This is another failure. Will my mom be mad at me this time?'

When no one was looking, I recorded a small video of him gesticulating wildly at the peak of his story and saved it.

Hopefully, this time, my mom would let me off the hook.

After the blind date meal, he ate everything himself, while I only sipped the bottled water I brought.

So, this meal had nothing to do with me, and neither did this guy.

This blind date was another flop.

The guy said, "So, are you satisfied with me? Men like me are rare. Even though you just graduated and work at a company with a low salary, I won't mind. I'll also talk to my parents to get them to accept you."

I asked, "Sir, how much is your monthly salary?"

"Young women these days are too materialistic, always concerned about money. Since you asked, I can't not tell you. My salary isn't very high, just over $7,000 after taxes each month." He shamelessly said this, flicking his nonexistent hair with pride, causing the flesh on his face to jiggle.

I almost choked on my own saliva.

He dares to brag about this? It was not even a fraction of my commission from a single deal.

But he acted like he was doing me a favor by giving me a chance to date him?

I awkwardly smiled and stood up. "Sir, you're so outstanding. Someone like me really doesn't deserve you. I wouldn't dare delay you from finding a better partner."

I was about to leave when his expression changed. His already tiny eyes, squeezed by his flesh, became slits. If one didn't look closely, one wouldn't even notice he had eyes.

The guy said, "You don't deserve me, and I won't force you. But you ate my meal, and you can't eat for free. You can leave, but leave half the meal's cost. I can't just treat a stranger to a meal for no reason."

I had been trying to figure out what his face reminded me of, but I couldn't place it.At that moment, with his eyes squinted and his face slightly tilted up, his cheeks puffed out, creating a groove around his nose. Suddenly, it hit me.

His face looked like a butt!

I wanted to curse him out, but honestly, could a butt say anything normal? Better to just let it go.

"Sir, from the moment I sat down until now, I've only had a sip of water," I said, raising the bottle in my hand, "and it's water I brought myself. You ate all the food you ordered. If you don't believe me, there's a security camera right there."

His eyes opened slightly, glancing at the camera above his head. His face twitched, and he said nothing more. Seeing me really turn to leave, he muttered reluctantly, "Such an unpresentable person."

I really wanted to slap him. I looked at my delicate palm and decided against it.

With all that fat on his face, hitting him would probably hurt my hand. Better to let it go.

Sure enough, as soon as I walked in the door, before I could even take off my coat, my mom angrily said, "Tell me, why did it fail again? He has a good job and looks decent. What more do you want? Why did you leave without finishing the meal? Do you know how embarrassed I was when the matchmaker asked me?"

I calmly opened the video file on my phone and showed it to my mom.

She stared at the video file seriously, her face changing colors like a palette. She said, "Send me the video."

I sent her the video file and calmly went to my room with my phone. Behind me, my mom was already dialing the matchmaker.

That was right; evidence spoke the loudest.

When I got to my room, my brother called to ask how the blind date went.

I really didn't want to recall that butt-like face, so I sent the video file to my brother.

Then, I ignored his laughing emojis and decided to lie down.

After a series of failed blind dates, my mom also realized that blind dates were unreliable. She handed the task of finding a partner back to me and gave me an order. She said, "Amelia, I'm telling you, you have one year, at most two, to bring me a marriage certificate."

I tried to argue, "Mom, I'm only about twenty years old. What's the rush?"

My mother said, "If you can't do it, don't come back."

Alright, I gave in.

My friends eventually found out about my breakup with Ryan.

I didn't want them to know. Jane and Lillian had been dissatisfied with Ryan for a long time because they feared I wouldn't be happy in the future. They had told me many times to think it over, but I had always politely declined.

Now that they had been proven right, I felt particularly embarrassed. I was also afraid they might do something irrational.

Lillian was the first to find out. She lived near me and worked at Sunhaven, so we saw each other often.
