Chapter 60 Hitting Daniel

"Goodbye, Louis," I waved, tears in my eyes.

Maybe this was our last goodbye, but I'd always remember him.

Louis paused, half-turning, "Jane, will we meet again?"

His voice trembled, eyes full of sorrow.

The afternoon sun lit his face, and I saw tears glistening.

"As long as we're friends, we can meet anywhere!" Louis shook his head, laughed, got in the car, rolled down the window, waved, and quickly drove off like he was escaping.

Louis cried!

I watched where he disappeared, feeling we wouldn't part forever.

Even if we never meet again, I'd always remember the chubby boy who wrote me eleven love letters and genuinely liked me.

"Get in the car," Brad walked over, looking upset, and pulled my arm.

Brad had been close enough to hear everything between Louis and me. But that was between me and Louis, why was he so jealous?

"Are you coming or not? Helen's calling and urging us," Daniel shouted, half out the car window.

As I followed Brad to the car, Daniel quickly took the passenger seat, ignoring Brad's order to move. I didn't bother and got in the back.

The car smoothly left the parking lot. I leaned against the door, watching the scenery fly by, feeling uneasy.

"Daniel, why did you intercept my letters? All eleven of them? Who gave you the right?"

"I told you, you were too young. I didn't want them to affect your studies."

"That's for me to decide! Who are you to make the call for me?" I shouted until my throat hurt, then coughed.

Brad saw me coughing in the rearview mirror, a smile in his eyes.

"I'll give them back, what's the big deal?" Daniel said.

"Bullshit." I was furious. Could he return Louis's years of hope? "If I kill you and say sorry, will you forgive me?"

"If I'm dead, what's the point?"

Daniel was such a jerk!

The Daniel I once idolized had turned into a mangy dog.

I grabbed something and started hitting him.

It was heavy, and Daniel cried out in pain.

"Stop, I'm bleeding." Daniel grabbed it from me, shouting.

Brad pulled over.

I saw a red mark on Daniel's left temple.

"Don't cover it, check the wound. If it's serious, we need to go to the hospital." Brad took the weapon and threw it back to the rear seat.

I looked closer and saw it was the cover of a power outlet.

Brad took out a clean alcohol wipe to treat Daniel's wound. Daniel stayed still, letting Brad handle it, but his eyes quietly watched me.

I felt guilty for hurting him, but even more annoyed.

"It's just a scratch. Put some ointment on it when we get back, and it'll be fine. Let's take Daniel home to rest first, then go to the restaurant, okay?" Brad handed the wipe to Daniel to press on the wound and asked me.

What was the rush? It wasn't a state dinner. We could just call my mom and let her know we'd be a bit late.

Before I could speak, Daniel said, "I'm fine, let's go straight to the restaurant. I haven't had dinner yet."

After hitting Daniel, I felt much better. Since he said to go to the restaurant, I didn't argue.

After all, I was the one who hurt him.

When we entered the private room, Helen immediately noticed Daniel's injury and asked in surprise what happened.

Brad chuckled silently, and I was organizing my thoughts on how to explain. It was embarrassing to say it was over love letters.

Emma sent Hugh out to buy band-aids and fussed over Daniel, holding his head and asking if he was okay.

Seeing this, I felt even more guilty and didn't dare to look up.

Helen, who understood me well, quickly noticed my discomfort and nudged me with her finger, whispering, "Did you do it?"

"It's not my fault, he started it," I whispered back.

"No matter what, you shouldn't hurt someone," Helen said.

"I didn't mean to, I just lost control."

"Brad, you were with them, what happened to your brother? Tell me," Emma worriedly asked Brad, since Daniel wasn't speaking.

It wasn't Brad's fault, so I couldn't let him take the blame.

I weakly raised my right hand, "Emma, it was..."

"I accidentally hit the wall, it's nothing. Don't make a big deal out of it, people might think I'm dying," Daniel interrupted.

I swallowed my words and turned to see Brad trying hard not to laugh, and I also tried to hold it in. But I couldn't, and burst out laughing.

Helen exasperatedly tapped my head, "What's so funny? Be serious."

Helen's words made it even harder to hold back.

It wasn't a crime investigation, Helen telling me to be serious was just too funny.

I glanced up and saw Daniel with a band-aid on his temple, a slight smile in his eyes.

Getting beaten and still smiling, this guy was really something.

Despite Daniel's minor injury, the meal was quite enjoyable.

From that autumn to now, four years, this was the most harmonious meal our two families had together.

When I got home that night, Helen scolded me. I couldn't lift my head and had to explain everything, hoping to make my mom angry too.

But Helen didn't get angry; she laughed instead. "Louis is a good kid, has good taste, and is so affectionate. I think you should consider him."

"Mom, is that the point? The point is Daniel intercepted my letters without my permission. That's an invasion of privacy, and it's illegal," I said.

Helen replied, "Illegal? You hit someone and made him bleed, isn't that illegal? Alright, do your thing and stop bothering me."

Driven away by Helen, I had no choice but to go to my room and be alone.
