Chapter 490 Proposal
We were chatting for a solid fifteen minutes when Helen's phone buzzed. She checked it, then waved me out.
The bedroom door swung open, and I was floored.
The living room was a sea of red, roses covering every inch.
A soft floral scent hung in the air.
I suddenly remembered my birthday—the hotel room Brad had filled with roses, every corner bursting with them.
But today? Today was even more mind-blowing and amazing than my birthday.
Because, among all those flowers, there was Brad.
The world seemed to stop, like it was just the two of us, staring at each other from across the room.
Then, someone turned off the lights, and after a moment of darkness, candles started flickering to life one by one. Brad walked slowly towards me in the candlelight.
With each step he took, the love in his eyes grew deeper.
That love was as intoxicating as fine wine, as sweet and tempting as honey.
A strong suspicion suddenly hit me. As he got closer, the thought became clearer.
He finally stood in front of me, dropped to one knee, and pulled a small dark box from his pocket. A simple, elegant ring sparkled quietly in the candlelight.
Brad started to speak, his voice already choked up. "Baby, I've been waiting for this day forever. You have no idea how happy I am. For twenty-four years, I've thought about you every second, been with you, liked you. When I was ten, I swore that if I ever got married, it would be to Jane.
For twenty-four years, every single day, I've been anxious and waiting. I feared I would never find a place in your heart, yet I also held onto the hope that you might see me, fall in love with me, and choose to spend your life by my side. There were countless nights when sleep eluded me, as if every star in the sky was a reflection of your face. Missing you and thinking of you had almost become an essential part of my life.
Jane, I don't know how to express my love for you because it's so deep and persistent that I can't find the words. I'm sorry. I'm really clumsy; I can't even say something nice while proposing."
Brad spoke emotionally, his eyes red. I listened, moved to the core.
"Alright, get to the point. If you can't say it, I will. I can," Daniel said impatiently.
Rachel, who had arrived at some point, laughed from a hidden corner after hearing Daniel's words.
Brad shot Daniel a sideways glance, suppressing his anger, and raised his right hand, holding the ring higher. "Baby, will you marry me? I will take care of you and cherish you for a lifetime. I'll hold an umbrella for you on rainy days, shade you on sunny days, share your joy, and be with you in sorrow—no, I will never let you be sad. So, Jane, a man as good as me is hard to find. I suggest you let me belong to you forever. So, will you marry me?"Getting proposed to in front of my parents made me blush like crazy. I felt a bit lost.
I had read tons of novels and watched so many proposal scenes, but being on the receiving end was a whole different ball game. The emotion was so intense, it made me feel like I could give up everything, even my life.
Rachel clapped her hands and shouted, "I do!"
A wave of joy surged from deep within me.
This was the person I loved most in the world; how could I not say yes?
"I will," I said firmly.
Brad's eyes lit up like a thousand stars had just burst into life. He was filled with uncontrollable joy and the satisfaction of finally getting what he wanted.
He quickly stood up, slipped the ring onto my left hand's middle finger, and then intertwined his fingers with mine. He lifted my hand to his lips and gently kissed it. "Baby, thank you. Thank you for saying yes."
Suddenly, I felt something warm on the back of my hand. In the flickering light, I saw tears running down my skin.
"I'm really so happy," Brad choked out, his voice breaking.
He hugged me tightly, and then I saw Ronan holding Helen in the darkness. Helen was leaning on Ronan's shoulder, her body trembling slightly. Ronan gently patted her back.
Hugh and Emma were also standing together, supporting each other.
I suddenly felt like the luckiest person in the world.
"Brad, how long are you going to hug her? You haven't given her the flowers yet," Rachel shouted happily.
Hearing this, Brad seemed to remember the flowers. He awkwardly grabbed them.
It was a heart-shaped bouquet made of pink and white roses, the vibrant colors standing out in the dark.
I took the flowers and then remembered that besides the bouquet in my arms, the entire living room was filled with flowers.
"Why did you buy so many flowers? What a waste," I said, feeling shy and burying my face in the bouquet.
Brad replied, "Because you're worth it, and as long as you like it, it doesn't matter if it's a waste."
I said, "Don't spend money recklessly. It's hard to earn money."
Brad said, "It doesn't matter. I'll earn the money, and you can spend it."
Brad and I, lost in our own world, started discussing who would handle what in our future life, ignoring everyone else.
Due to the dim light, the people hidden in the darkness deliberately stayed quiet to set the mood, making us forget about them.
Until Rachel weakly spoke up, "Can I turn on the lights now? I've kicked the sofa leg twice, and it really hurts."
