Chapter 387 Evidence

Professor Evans was the only person I could think of to turn to for help.

For the past nine days, I hadn't been able to get in touch with Brad at all, but Jenny's New Feed was always full of updates about him. This made me both angry and relieved.

Seeing Brad's presence in Jenny's New Feed at least meant he was safe. But the fact that Jenny could post updates while Brad couldn't made me suspect that Jenny was restricting his actions.

If my suspicion was right, I had to rescue Brad and not let him struggle alone in this mess. If our roles were reversed, Brad would definitely do the same for me.

I had thought about asking Yancy for help, and even considered Louis, but they represented their respective families. If they got involved, it would have too many implications. Besides, their company were both prominent private enterprises, and there were bound to be entanglements between them. I didn't want to make things difficult for them because of my issues. I wouldn't trouble them unless it was the last resort.

Professor Evans, who taught at the school and was one of the participants in this collaboration, was the best person I could turn to for help.

I pushed open the door to Professor Evans' office, not expecting to see Daniel sitting in the guest area. Professor Evans was talking to him, and both of them looked very serious. Especially Professor Evans, who, in addition to being serious, also had a hint of anger.

Seeing this scene made me suddenly nervous.

At that moment, I became particularly afraid. I didn't dare to listen to what they were saying, and all the mental preparation I had done beforehand collapsed.

Daniel's field had nothing to do with Professor Evans. For him to be sitting here having a serious conversation with Professor Evans, the topic must be about Brad. And it had to be something serious about Brad; otherwise, they wouldn't look so grave.

I regretted coming here. If it was bad news, the later I found out, the longer I could hold on to hope.

I was so afraid that the topic they were discussing was the worst possible outcome.

When Professor Evans and Daniel saw me come in, they both looked at me. For some reason, I read a lot of pity in Daniel's eyes. Did something happen to Brad?

I told myself to be strong. Brad would be fine. They must be discussing when Brad would come back. Brad wouldn't want me to be sad; he would be okay.

But tears still streamed down my face. I was indeed useless, always crying when something happened. Truly useless.

My legs felt so heavy that I couldn't lift them. Every step felt like torture.

"Just in time, come over and sit down with us." Professor Evans waved at me and patted the seat next to him. "Why are you crying? Nothing bad has happened. Stop crying and let's discuss the matter."

Really? Nothing bad happening was good news. I used both hands to wipe away my tears.

"Alright, Jane, don't be so tense. Sit down, calm yourself, and then we'll discuss this together," Daniel looked up and forced a smile, patting the table next to him to indicate I should sit.

Given the current rift between Daniel and me, nothing he did could bridge the gap. Even if his concern was genuine, even if he was truly here for Brad's safety, it couldn't erase the distance between us.

Sitting next to Daniel would give me a psychological shadow.

I grabbed a chair from nearby and slid it over to the small rectangular table where Professor Evans and Daniel were sitting. I positioned myself between the two of them.

"Professor Evans, Brad's been out of contact for nine days. Do you know what's going on with him?" Tears started to well up in my eyes again.

Daniel chimed in, "Don't worry; I'm here to talk to Professor Evans about Brad too. Professor Evans, we don't know the Taylor family at all and have no way to get information. The school's confidentiality measures are super tight. When I asked, they only assured me of their safety but didn't say anything else because of commercial confidentiality. I've been keeping this from my parents, but I can't hide it for long. Brad's prolonged silence will eventually alert them. Not only is Jane anxious, but I'm also worried sick. I'm here today to ask for your help."

Daniel sat upright, his fingers interlaced on the table, looking composed, but his pale knuckles gave away his anxiety.

At least Daniel was genuinely worried about Brad, which meant their old friendship still had some life in it. He hadn't completely lost his humanity.

"This contract was signed between the school and the Taylor family. The decision-making and management rights belong to the school, so I can't interfere too much. Brad, as the chief designer of this contract, is required by the client to participate in some work, which doesn't violate the contract terms," Professor Evans said, tapping the table with his knuckles, looking slightly irritated.

"Professor Evans, though the contract may state that, my brother has been out of contact with any of us for nine days. I now suspect that someone is using their authority to forcibly restrict Brad's communication and freedom of movement. This is illegal; no one has the right to do that," Daniel said, looking grim and angry.

"Yes, Professor Evans, since Brad went on this trip, he has only sent me one meaningful message. His phone is always unreachable; Jenny refuses to answer calls, yet her updates always show traces of Brad. So, I reasonably suspect that Jenny is deliberately hiding Brad's whereabouts and cutting off his communication with the outside world. In other words, Brad's current situation might be that Jenny is restricting his personal freedom. Although this may not violate the contract, Jenny is breaking national laws and regulations if my suspicions are confirmed, which is illegal."

Professor Evans nodded, took a sip of tea, and said, "Suspicions are just suspicions. To determine if Jenny is breaking the law, we need evidence. Personally, I think the most important thing right now is to make sure Brad is safe. After all, the contract is there, and both parties are bound by it. No one can act recklessly. Brad might be restricted, but his personal safety is definitely not in jeopardy. The Taylor family intends to use this collaboration to break into the Regalia market and change their long-standing stagnation. So, they won't go too far."

I thought the same. Jenny's sudden request for a business trip was known not only to me but also to Levi Morgan, who was the school director. Levi not only knew but also agreed and supported it. Levi's call to Brad was the most compelling evidence.
