Chapter 438 Let's Talk

I spun around and started jogging, with Elliot grinning like a mischievous kid right behind me.

As I ran, I caught a glimpse of Jenny trying to chase after me, but her legs gave out, and she dropped to her knees.

Michael saw her fall, stopped in his tracks, looked at me getting farther away, then back at Jenny kneeling on the ground, looking pale. He gave up on chasing me and ran over to scoop Jenny up in his arms.

I let out a sigh of relief; Jenny was finally out of the picture.

But then, things took another wild turn.

Worried Jenny was hurt, Michael tried to carry her away quickly, but she slapped him across the face. The slap was so loud I could hear it even from a distance.

How hard did Jenny hit him for the whole restaurant to hear it? For a moment, I felt a sting on my own face; Michael must have felt it even more.

A clear handprint started to show on Michael's face, and he stood there, stunned. His tall frame wobbled after the slap.

I couldn't help but stop, shocked by Jenny's actions.

Michael was just trying to help Jenny, but she didn't appreciate it and slapped him. What kind of tactic was this? Did rich people all lack basic respect for others? Professor Evans, Yancy, Louis—none of them ever acted like this. This was a fundamental flaw in her character.

"Useless man, you can't even catch a woman. What good are you?" Jenny spat out viciously.

Michael's cheeks visibly twitched.

No matter how much he cared for her, a public slap would undoubtedly leave him feeling both disappointed and hurt.

But in an instant, he lowered his head and mumbled something. Jenny still looked furious but didn't say anything more.

In the elevator, Elliot leaned against the wall, still amused.

"What are you grinning about?"

"You've surprised me. You look as cute as a bunny, but you're as cunning as a fox hiding its claws."

I was speechless.

After a long day, I finally got back to my room, washed up, and collapsed into bed. Exhaustion washed over me, and I felt like my body was about to give out.

Starting a business was no joke.

But no matter how tough it got, I would persevere.

As for Jenny, she definitely wouldn't let this go after what happened today. She'd be back to cause more trouble.

I used to be really afraid of her causing trouble because I couldn't find the right balance. I was always worried about overstepping and feeling guilty because she once saved Brad's life.

After everything that happened, every action she took chipped away at our gratitude. Especially when she schemed against Brad, it almost completely eroded any gratitude I felt towards her.

Now, if Jenny came looking for trouble again, I wouldn't back down. Brad had made it clear, and I wouldn't be lenient anymore.

I'd been out running around for days, cold and tired. Lying on the bed felt incredibly comfortable, and I quickly grew drowsy. Suddenly, I remembered I hadn't told Brad about the recent events. I got up, grabbed my phone, and filled Brad in on what happened at the restaurant.

Brad shot back a quick reply: [Don't get yourself hurt. Go to sleep.]

Alright, I would sleep.

At dawn the next day, I got up. Elliot said he found a lab nearby, and we had also found the stone, so we needed to go to the lab for experiments.

After meeting in the hallway, Elliot and I headed to the hotel's breakfast area. With all the materials finally ready, we were one step closer to our goal, and we were both pretty stoked.

Since it was still early, the breakfast area was almost empty. I grabbed a glass of milk, two slices of bread, and a fried egg.

Elliot, on the other hand, went all out: a bowl of pasta, two boiled eggs, a serving of fried sausage, and half a glass of milk.

"You're eating a lot today. Aren't you afraid of gaining weight?"

I looked at my plate, rubbed my often-hungry stomach from the past few days, and raised my fork, saying, "How can I have the energy to lose weight if I don't eat enough? This is called conserving energy."

Elliot shook his head with a smile, sat across from me, cracked open an egg, dipped it in sauce, and took a big bite, quickly finishing it off and stuffing the remaining half into his mouth, his cheeks bulging.

Watching Elliot wolf down his food, I finished my own breakfast, feeling my stomach swell.

After breakfast, the car we had arranged arrived, and Elliot and I grabbed our bags and headed out.

My bag was a backpack, and it was heavy to carry by hand, so I wanted to wear it. Just then, Elliot, who was walking ahead of me, suddenly stopped and looked at me with a troubled expression.

Following his gaze, I was speechless.

Did Jenny have nothing better to do than watch me all day?

Such a creep.

Maybe Michael was hurt from that heavy slap yesterday. Today, standing behind Jenny's wheelchair was a young man I hadn't seen before, who looked quite friendly. When he saw me glaring at them, he even winked at me.

I wondered if he had an eye problem, but then he winked a few more times and exaggeratedly motioned with his mouth.

I suddenly realized that this must be the person Brad and Daniel had turned, Micah Porter. Brad must have briefed Micah before coming here, and his exaggerated facial expressions were telling me not to worry; he was on my side!

Jenny was truly pitiful and pathetic. She came to cause trouble for me with great fanfare, only to bring along a subordinate who had turned against her. If Jenny couldn't even manage her own people, how could she accomplish anything significant?

"Jane, no matter what, I need to talk to you today," Jenny said coldly, her face stern.

She waited last night and came again this morning. It seemed that if I didn't talk to her, Jenny might move into my room. She was determined to talk.

Alright, let's talk then.

There was no avoiding it.

"Elliot, I have something to deal with here. You go ahead and send me the location when you get there. I'll join you once I'm done."

Elliot took my bag, slung it over his shoulder, and whistled a tuneless tune as he walked past Jenny. Whether intentionally or not, the corner of the backpack caught her hair, pulling out a strand and messing up her hairstyle.
