Chapter 333 The Answer
Brad and I kicked off the party with the opening dance 'cause everyone was hyped. The birthday bash was lit.
Maybe it was Adam and Daniel's presence that set Brad off. During this ancient tango, he was flipping his hair, twisting his waist, and shaking his hips like he was born to seduce.
As we slid past Daniel and Adam, Daniel's smirk was so annoying I almost stopped to slap him.
Adam was even worse; he turned away like we didn't exist, which made my blood boil.
Their attitude at Brad's birthday party was the last straw. From today, they were both on my blacklist.
Seeing me fuming, Brad stifled a laugh and whispered in my ear, "Two nutjobs, just ignore 'em. They ain't worth it."
I cracked up. Two nutjobs, we were totally on the same page. Yeah, ignoring them was the best payback.
I squeezed Brad's hand tighter, and he grinned, planting a kiss on my cheek. Daniel's face turned sour.
Brad's moves got even hotter, and the crowd's screams were deafening.
A little voice in my head was like, "Brad, chill. You're gonna throw your hip out."
But Brad didn't give a damn about my worries. He was all in, lost in the music.
Suddenly, it hit me that Brad's dance wasn't for me but for those two clowns.
Brad was adorably childish.
Halfway through the song, a bunch of students slid onto the dance floor, circling us and putting us in the spotlight.
Rachel tiptoed and whispered something to Daniel. He glanced at the dance floor, looking annoyed, but then he reluctantly wrapped his arm around her and joined in.
Turned out, Daniel was a ballroom dance pro, making Rachel so happy her eyes turned into slits.
But no matter how good Daniel was, he couldn't hold a candle to Brad. No matter how awesome other guys were, Brad was my number one.
Singing, dancing, and game competitions made the school's New Year's Eve party a blast.
As I figured, there was a Hot Potato segment.
When the music started, everyone began passing around a prop. When the music stopped, whoever had the prop had to choose between truth or dare. If they chickened out, they had to chug a big bottle of Sprite.
I'd always been lucky. When the music stopped in the first round, the prop landed right in my lap.
"Jane, hurry up and choose, truth or dare. Or you can go for the Sprite. Look, a whole bottle of Sprite!" The girl was super excited, waving the Sprite in my face.
She was basically saying that since I was so skinny, there was no way I could chug a whole bottle of Sprite in one go, so I should just pick truth or dare instead.
Seeing that bottle of Sprite, I noped out of that option real quick. As for dare, those usually involved pranks like unbuckling the belt of the dude next to you, or walking backward, and kissing the first person you bump into. No way I was doing any of that. Especially with Brad giving me the death stare from the side, like he'd strangle me if I picked dare. So, truth it was.
"Yeah! Jane picked truth. Alright, we wanna know, besides your dad, who was the first guy you ever loved, and what's his name?"
Did I even need to think about it? The answer was tattooed on my heart.
"Brad," I said without missing a beat.
Brad looked at me like I'd just handed him the moon, his big hand gripping mine tight, his fingers kneading like he was either over the moon or just thrilled to finally get some recognition.
I scratched Brad's palm with my fingers, and he relaxed. A satisfied smile spread across his lips. Brad said, "Baby, I'm so happy. This is the best birthday gift ever."
The second round was Rachel's turn, and she went all in with dare.
Maybe the host noticed the vibes between her and Daniel, so they cleverly asked her to deliver a passionate declaration to one of the guys present.
This was exactly what Rachel wanted.
When Daniel heard Rachel's choice, he sensed trouble and tried to scoot away. But the seating was too tight, and no matter where he moved, Rachel still managed to catch him, grabbing his hand with a flushed face.
Daniel had been chased by girls countless times, but for some reason, Rachel's confession made him stand up in fright, his expression changing. If it weren't for the crowd, I bet he would've bolted.
Rachel said, "Daniel, I've liked you since the first time I saw you. This crush has grown into deep love over time. You are my sky, always enveloping me no matter where I am; you are the warm sun in my life, giving me warmth and lighting my way. Daniel, I love you, and that will never change. Will you love me? I want to be by your side all the time, be your shadow; I would never leave you. I want to be your baby; I want to be cherished and pampered by you; I want to be your princess for life. It would make me the happiest person in the world."
Rachel delivered her long speech without a hitch, like she'd rehearsed it a million times.
From start to finish, Daniel's hand was held by Rachel. His expression went from annoyed to shocked, and finally, his face turned a deep, crimson red. His mouth moved a few times, like he was saying something, but his voice was drowned out by the crowd.
Finally, Daniel yanked his hand back and stuffed it into his coat pocket, going back to his usual self.
"Daniel, did my confession work?" Rachel asked pitifully, looking like a puppy waiting for its owner to feed it.
