Chapter 48 Silent
I was in the hospital for three days, and Brad took great care of me the whole time.
When I got discharged, Brad personally brought me back to the dorm, catching everyone's attention and making the girls envious.
Mia said Brad treated me like a delicate glass doll that day, like a pampered princess from ancient times. During my hospital stay, I felt unwell, and Brad was super strict about my diet, saying I couldn't eat this or that. He made me drink different kinds of porridge every day, and I was getting sick of it. Plus, he still hadn't explained why he ghosted me before, so I wasn't too happy.
Brad reflected on his six-day absence and promised he'd never leave me alone again. I forgave him, and we got back to normal.
After we made up, Brad was even more attentive and gentle.
I loved it and wished those days would last forever.
Brad's grad school workload suddenly increased, and he was busy all day, but he always made time for me. When he was too busy, he'd order takeout for me.
I felt carefree and happy again.
Time flew by, and November arrived. It got really cold, and my classmates started wearing thicker coats.
One evening, with a beautiful sunset, Brad texted me on Facebook, asking me to come downstairs because he had something important to tell me.
I put on my coat, stuffed my phone in my pocket, and ran out.
There had been a light snowfall in the morning, and the snowflakes on the tree branches sparkled like silver.
Brad was standing under a tree, waving excitedly as if something great had happened.
"Brad, did the competition results come out?" I rushed over, tugging at his coat.
He nodded, eyes twinkling. He held my shoulders, "Jane, guess what place we got?"
"First place?" I guessed.
Brad laughed, lifted me up, and spun me around, "You bet! My Jane is the best!"
That evening, we danced and jumped around the campus, which had just seen its first snowfall. I climbed onto his back, and he carried me around, attracting envious glances.
In the past, I wanted to share everything with Daniel, but that day, when I won first place, I didn't think of him at all.
I realized my feelings for Daniel had almost disappeared, and my wounds had nearly healed.
To celebrate, Brad invited all my roommates and his friends to dinner.
Those guys, usually under Brad's strict control, were ecstatic to have a chance to mess with him.
Congratulations were said over and over, and there was always someone toasting Brad and me. I only had two drinks before Brad stopped me from drinking more.
I wanted to drink more, but Brad cut me off. Seriously?
My drinking capacity was a secret. Helen said to keep it under wraps unless absolutely necessary, so I just watched the guys drink with longing.
"Brad, why won't you let me drink? I can handle more," I said.
"You've already had two drinks. It's not safe for girls to drink too much," Brad gently coaxed.
"But you're here, right? You even knocked John down, so you can protect me. Just one more drink," I pouted, trying to get my way.
Brad held my raised finger and said patiently, "Be good. You'll have a headache tomorrow if you drink too much."
Matthew, jaw dropped, said, "Oh my god, Brad is so charming when he's gentle. I'm falling in love with him."
"Dream on, Brad belongs to Jane. No one else can have him."
Brad had drunk a lot, and his eyes had a dazed look, making him even more attractive.
I couldn't resist and gently touched the corner of his eye and his long, thick eyelashes.
Brad was incredibly handsome, even nearing thirty, with eyelashes that were to die for. How could any woman resist?
By the end of the night, everyone was tipsy, linking arms and singing off-key songs in the quiet night.
Brad tried to stay sober and walked me to the dorm, watching me go inside before leaving.
At some point, Benjamin and Mia had disappeared. I asked Isabella, and she pouted, "Ugh, don't even start. That girl fell head over heels for him."
"What do you mean? Mia got wooed by Benjamin? She can't make decisions without us," I said.
"Mind your own business. I also want to ask you. Brad treats you like a queen, his eyes shining when he looks at you. What's your deal? Give him a straight answer. Don't keep him hanging. He's the dream guy of every girl at Northern Institute of the Arts. Don't miss out."
Here we go again. Ever since Brad and I made up, everyone kept trying to pair us together. I had explained a hundred times that he was my brother, the one who had loved me the most since childhood. Even if every man in the world had feelings for me, Brad never would.
In Brad's mind, I was his sister, and he was my brother. That role had been deeply ingrained for a long time.
Not wanting to explain again, I rolled my eyes and pretended not to hear, making Isabella so mad that she elbowed me, "You're so dense. With your EQ, I really pity Brad."
"Right. You have too much free time," I replied.
Isabella and I were laughing and talking as we reached the fourth floor, only to see Mia being kissed passionately by Benjamin in a corner.
No wonder we couldn't find them; they had come back to the dorm first.
We wanted to watch a bit longer, but they noticed us.
Mia turned and went into the dorm with a flushed face, while Benjamin took the opportunity to escape, leaving us no chance to catch him for a mock trial.
We followed Mia into the dorm, wanting to question her about how she got kissed like that without our notice.
Mia, still dazed from the kiss, teamed up with Isabella to turn the topic back to me.
They insisted that Brad liked me and urged me to cherish him and make a move.
I was too tired to explain, so I pretended to sleep.
