Chapter 258: The Heart of Rebellion

"So heartless, you even made Jenny cry," I said, my voice dripping with jealousy.

I mean, who wouldn't be jealous? Hearing your boyfriend getting confessed to and asked for a hug? Come on, right?

I was just reacting like any girl would in this situation.

What Brad did next was up to him. I couldn't control his choices, but they sure as hell would affect mine.

Jenny was trouble, and this kind of drama was probably gonna be a regular thing. Brad needed to give me some solid reassurance.

Brad squeezed my hand and turned to me, saying, "Sounds like you're pretty regretful, babe. Should I go for it?"

That got me all riled up. "No way! If you even think about hugging her, I'll, I'll..."

"You'll what?" Brad shot me a lazy side-eye, a teasing grin on his face, waiting for my comeback.

"I'll break your legs!" I bluffed, trying to sound tough.

Maybe I was too loud, 'cause Brad suddenly stiffened. He went from holding my hand to grabbing my neck, gritting his teeth, "So ruthless! Which leg you wanna break first?"

"Anyway, it's your fault. I'll break your legs so you can't move, then I'll find another guy. I'll buy a house across from yours, and live it up with my new love. We'll have two kids, a boy and a girl, maybe twins, and we'll be so happy it'll drive you nuts."

Brad gritted his teeth and pretended to choke me, but he didn't use any force. "You dare think that? I don't care who you find; I'll take 'em all down. Even with broken legs, I'll still beat 'em up."

We joked and bickered all the way back to the neighborhood. Just as we parked, someone came running over.

Before I knew it, the guy was standing right in front of me. He had a stack of drawing paper and two bags, one with oil paints and the other with who knows what.

It was Adam, who I hadn't seen in days.

Running into Adam at the entrance was awkward.

"Hey, Mr. Pitt. Jane, you're finally back. I've been waiting for you," Adam said, sweating and smiling.

Brad's demeanor changed instantly.

The warm, sunny Brad turned into a cold, jealous winter storm.

Brad's big hand pulled me into his arms, clearly marking his territory.

"Adam, what do you need Jane for at this hour?" Brad asked with a fake smile, his displeasure obvious.

Brad was so petty.

Adam glanced at Brad's hand on my waist, his eyes showing displeasure, but his smile got even brighter. "I was just passing by while buying supplies. Noticed Jane didn't come to our Crystal House this morning. Didn't she say she was in a hurry to make progress? Thought I'd stop by and remind her."

Adam was trying to explain that our meeting was just a coincidence.

"Our Crystal House," Brad emphasized.

The temperature around me dropped even more, and I had to hug myself and lean closer to him.

Maybe that calmed him down a bit, 'cause Brad's coldness eased up slightly.

"I had something to do this morning, but this afternoon I should..."

"She doesn't have time this afternoon," Brad cut me off, his tone irritated.

In moments like this, I couldn't undermine my man. I had to smile and say I was busy and we'd talk tomorrow.

With Brad's mood today, my trips to Crystal House might get cut short in the future. I should hit it up as much as I can while he's not too pissed. I really dig that place.

Adam smiled and took off when he heard I wasn't coming this afternoon. But his smile had a bit of a rebellious edge to it.

He acted all respectful towards Brad, like a student to a teacher, but I could sense some hidden defiance under that respect.

Brad must've picked up on Adam's weird vibe too, 'cause his gaze was ice-cold as Adam walked away.

We got home around eleven. Luna wasn't there, and Mia and Yancy were eating. When they heard we hadn't eaten, they rushed to the kitchen to grab more utensils, grumbling about us not calling ahead. They didn't make anything special and weren't sure if there was enough food.

The hot weather killed my appetite, so I just nibbled a bit. But Brad, looking like he was taking out his anger on the food, ate a ton.

After lunch, it was chill time. Honestly, there was nothing to do in the afternoon. Brad just didn't want me hanging out with Adam, so he flat-out refused for me.

Even if Brad shut it down this time, there'd be plenty of chances later. Plus, I was there just for painting, and he couldn't block me every time. If I wanted something with someone, it would've happened already. Or I wouldn't have gone through four years of college without any romantic drama.

After a shower, I tried to coax Brad into resting in the bedroom, planning to sneak out to Crystal House once he dozed off. The deadline was tight, and I didn't want to waste the whole afternoon after already losing the morning.

"Don't say anything, just go rest." Before I could speak, smart Brad pressed his finger to my lips, cutting me off with a stern tone. He dragged me into the bedroom. "If you don't want me to do something, go to sleep."

"I'm not sleepy," I said, trying to wriggle free from Brad's grip. "Brad, you go to sleep. I need to finish this piece this afternoon."

Brad didn't argue. He tossed me onto the bed, stretched out his left hand to pin my upper body, and used his leg to trap my legs. In less than a second, I was like a little rabbit caught by a big bad wolf, with no escape.

He was tall and strong, and my small strength was useless against him. Plus, his firm refusal to let me go made any struggle pointless.

With my hands and feet restrained, I worried that Yancy in the living room might hear something. So I had no choice but to lie there angrily and try to fall asleep.

I was almost asleep when I heard Brad say coldly that we needed to buy a big house and live alone.

"Why? Isn't it nice living with Mia?"

"Nice? I can't even get intimate with my girlfriend without worrying about being overheard or spied on!"

I had nothing to say.

What was he talking about? Even during a nap, he had to make lewd remarks. Wasn't he tired? Brad must be crazy.

In the end, Brad didn't manage to coax me to sleep but ended up falling asleep himself, quite soundly.

When I woke up at 2:30, Brad was still out cold. I quietly got up and headed to Crystal House.

When I arrived, Adam was coloring a drawing. I stood by and watched for a while. His skills were impressive, and his use of color was spot on. For an undergrad, he was pretty much a pro.
