Chapter 389 So Hungry
I was like, "I can't believe what Amelia was thinking. Ryan, that jerk, cheated on her the same day they were talking about getting married. And all Amelia did was cry. If it were me, I'd give Ryan a good beating; I'd kick him so hard he'd never use his junk again."
Remembering seeing Ryan making out with another woman on the street that day, I got madder and my tone was harsher, like I was the one who got cheated on. I really wanted to smash Ryan's smug face and ruin his manhood.
Maybe I went too far. Adam noticeably shivered when he heard me; then he clamped his legs together like he was protecting something.
I was talking about Ryan, so why was Adam acting all cautious?
I gave Adam a serious look. He noticed and turned to look at me, a bit panicked and avoiding my gaze while I was still fuming.
I could see he was curious about Amelia. Besides her fiery temper, Amelia was a real beauty. She could turn heads just standing in a crowd.
Amelia had a tough time getting out of the mess with Ryan. I didn't want her falling into another trap. After all, a family that could raise someone as awful as Ryan probably didn't have any better members.
Adam seemed decent, but who knew what he was really like? Ryan seemed honest, calm, and upright, but he was a master at cheating, totally two-faced.
"Amelia deserves the best guy in the world. The Price family is full of bad apples. Ryan can forget about being with Amelia. Even if they gave her a billion dollars, she wouldn't have anything to do with the Price family." I made a disdainful spitting gesture.
Adam got even quieter after hearing that. He started moving faster but lost his rhythm; he was clearly flustered.
Did Adam's behavior mean he really had a thing for Amelia?
I thought about saying something to provoke Adam, but then I remembered the situation between Brad, Daniel, and me, which was so similar. So, I kept my mouth shut.
Love wasn't about right or wrong; it was about whether the person was worth it.
After all, their situation was just speculation, while Brad and I were a done deal. And that proved that a family that could raise a scumbag like Daniel could also raise someone awesome like Brad. So, I felt I had no right to judge Adam.
What if Adam was Amelia's true love?
After tidying up, I took all the paintings to Professor Evans.
Professor Evans was alone in his office. When he saw me, he told me to put the paintings in a specific spot. Then he poured me a glass of water and chatted with me for a bit, mostly to console me.
Professor Evans said, "Brad is my most outstanding student. I'm both worried and angry about what happened to him."
I rubbed my tired eyes and said, "Thanks, Professor Evans."
He looked at me with concern. "You don't look so good. Take care of yourself. You can't handle things if you're in this state."
I nodded. "I know. I'll have a proper meal when I get back."
Professor Evans chuckled. "Don't stress too much. If needed, I'll pull some strings to make sure Brad's safe."
His words definitely put me at ease. With his help, Brad would be alright.
When I got home, Amelia still wasn't back. She'd texted me earlier saying she had some new employee training starting tomorrow and had to stay late at the office for some personnel stuff.
I turned off my phone and headed to the kitchen to whip up some dinner.
Thanks to Yancy's patient teaching, my cooking had gotten pretty good.
Since Brad left for his business trip, I hadn't felt like cooking much; I'd mostly been eating out. When I finally decided to cook a decent meal, I found only two eggs and some green onions in the fridge.
I was debating whether to wait for Amelia and go out to eat or hit the supermarket when the doorbell rang. I opened it to find Mia and Yancy. I buzzed them in.
"Jane, why are you home alone? Where's Amelia?" Mia asked, setting down a small bag and changing her shoes.
Yancy, trailing behind her, was lugging several bags full of fruits and veggies.
I thought, 'No need for a supermarket run. Awesome!'
"Amelia's working late. Why'd you bring so much stuff?" I asked Yancy, who was shaking out his red hands from carrying the bags.
Mia walked to the kitchen, opened the fridge, and scoffed. "We were worried you'd starve yourself without someone to take care of you."
Yancy laughed and started putting the groceries away.
I never expected Yancy, who grew up spoiled in the Bailey family, to be so good at household chores. Mia must've trained him well.
Mia's words were always so blunt. She was clearly worried about me but made me sound completely helpless. It drove me nuts!
"You guys heard about it?" I followed them into the kitchen, nudging Mia playfully at the sink to wash my hands.
Mia said, "Yancy heard about Brad's situation at school and told me. Jane, what do you think?"
I shrugged. "I don't have many thoughts. As long as Brad's safe, we can sort everything else out later."
Mia asked, "Aren't you worried he's out there alone, with no one he can trust, and that Jenny might try to take advantage of him?"
