Chapter 286: Kiss My Foot
"Just hang tight a bit longer. You like it there anyway, right? Even if you buy a house now, with all the renovations, furniture shopping, and airing it out, it'll take forever. You can't stop painting for that long. Plus, we get to live together a bit longer, so I won't be bored alone."
Yeah, I thought the same.
But Brad wasn't having it.
"How would you be alone, Mia? You got me. I'll always be with you," Yancy jumped in, trying to be the hero.
Mia scoffed, "Men can't be trusted."
Wait, did I hear that right? Sounded kinda salty. Was she still mad at Yancy for bailing last time?
I thought Yancy would explain himself again, try to win Mia over.
But nope, he just gave her a sideways glance and smiled like he knew something we didn't.
Yancy finally messed up Mia's perfectly styled short hair, then smoothed it down. With a soft smile, he said, "Mia, you finally pay attention to me officially. I'm so happy, really happy. Thanks."
Does "pay attention" even have an official and unofficial version?
Then, Mia blushed.
And Yancy smiled.
Next thing I knew, Mia had her head down a bit, with a sweet smile on her face.
I was genuinely happy for Mia's change.
The painful past that once haunted her was fading, and Mia's eyes could finally see others. That was awesome.
Yancy, with all our efforts, might actually have a shot with Mia.
The door opened. Brad's tall figure stepped in, looking beat.
To meet deadlines, Brad hadn't slept well for days and was totally wiped out.
Worried, I ran to the door, grabbed his hand, and led him to the dining table, serving him a bowl of soup. "Brad, this soup is really good. Try it."
The two at the table greeted Brad, and he nodded kindly. He took a sip of the soup and smiled, "It does taste good."
"By the way, Brad, is the project almost done? You came back early today."
Brad smiled. His hand reached into his coat pocket, but then his smile froze.
"What's wrong, Brad?" I asked, puzzled.
Brad paused for a moment, then touched my face with the back of his hand. "Nothing, let's eat."
The vibe at the table was less lively with Brad there.
Mia, my good friend, was very mindful of boundaries and her interactions with Brad were limited to just saying hi.. Yancy, though not an art student, still respected the teachers at school.
When Brad was home, we rarely joked around.
Brad was really tired. He took a shower and went to the room right after dinner, then leaned against the headboard to talk with me for a bit before his voice faded.
I laid his head on the pillow and covered him with a blanket. My actions woke him up, and he grabbed my hand, wanting to say something, but I tucked his hand under the blanket and patted his shoulder until he fell asleep.
Tomorrow was Sunday, and Brad said he'd take me on a date. I already had plans.
A date, how romantic.
I heard that kissing at the top of a Ferris wheel means the couple will be together for a long time. I gotta try it tomorrow.
I rehearsed our date plans in my mind. Then I patted my blushed face and fell asleep happily.
I slept through the night. With Brad there, I had a rare good sleep.
When my internal clock woke me, Brad was already awake. He lay on his side, propping his head with one hand, and watched me with a smile.
"What's up?" I asked, still groggy.
Why was he looking at me like that so early in the morning?
"Nothing, I just like looking at you, can't get enough," Brad said, kissing my neck before getting out of bed. "You sleep a bit more. For safety, I'll get up first."
What did Brad mean by that?
In an instant, I saw Brad standing by the bed in just his underwear, his six-pack abs showing with his movements.
Brad, could you tone it down a bit?
I let out a short scream, blushing as I called him a perv, and pulled the blanket over my face.
Brad's smug chuckle rumbled in his chest. Annoyed, I kicked out, but missed him entirely. Instead, he easily caught my foot, left a kiss on it, and tucked it back under the blanket.
Oh my god, he kissed my foot.
'Alright, a mouth that kissed a foot definitely can't kiss my lips again. Next time he tries to kiss me, I'm totally refusing.' I thought angrily.
