Chapter 338 Students' Support

"Jenny, what brings you here?" I nudged Brad, who was slumping against me, and tried to get him to sit up straight.

Brad was chillin' just fine before Jenny rolled in. But the second she showed up, he turned into a wobbly mess, leaning on me like he was about to faceplant.

I had no choice but to stand up, throw my arm around his shoulder, and let him lean on my chest. Only then did he calm down, taking a few sips of water from another dude.

When Jenny saw me all cozy with Brad, her fake smile froze.

Michael, standing next to her, cleared his throat, snapping Jenny out of it. She quickly masked the jealousy and resentment in her eyes and said, "It's Brad's birthday today. How could I not come? We've known each other for so long; our relationship is special. I had to bring a gift to celebrate."

Jenny's little act had started. But I wasn't buying it.

I thought, 'Why should you be here just 'cause it's Brad's birthday? Who do you think you are to him? Lots of people have known Brad for years; what makes you so special? And this so-called special relationship, how do you even have the nerve to say that? Maybe there's something, but it's more like your pushiness and Brad's avoidance. If that's what you call special.'

I said, "Congrats accepted, but the gift? Nah, not needed. Sure, you and Brad went to the same school, but you barely talked. If it weren't for this random business trip, you might never have crossed paths again. We feel uncomfortable accepting your generosity. It's not about the amount, but the principle. We just can't take your money."

I wasn't being harsh; just laying down the facts.

I thought, 'Jenny, you can spin your own story to gross us out, but I'll hit you with the cold, hard truth. Who told you to come stirring the pot when you could be living your best life?'

Jenny probably didn't expect me to be so blunt. My few words made her face look awful.

If anyone thought she'd back down, they were wrong. Jenny didn't care about shame.

Jenny said, "The gift is for Brad. Even though you're called Brad's girlfriend, legally, that doesn't mean anything. You have no right to make decisions for him. Besides, I like Brad, and he knows it. We're both single and unattached; giving a birthday gift is just common courtesy. Nothing extraordinary about it."

I was speechless. Publicly crushing on a guy with a girlfriend – rich people sure have their own set of rules. The law might not protect boyfriend-girlfriend relationships, but does it protect shameless homewreckers? And Jenny wanted Brad to decide for himself. Wasn't that just dumb? Did she not know what kind of person Brad was? When Brad wanted to roast someone, his words were the harshest. She's been burned before; how had she not learned?

I said to Jenny, "You know Brad has a girlfriend, and it sounds like you wanna break us up? What's that called again? Oh, right, stealing someone else's boyfriend. Not illegal, but definitely shady. Wonder how your parents would feel about that."

If Jenny dared to admit she's trying to steal someone else's boyfriend, why shouldn't I call her out? She started this mess, and I was just responding. It was only fair to fight back when being targeted. I was defending my rights as Brad's girlfriend; I was on the side of justice.

Sure enough, our classmates got pissed when they heard this.

Don't let their goofing around fool you; these kids were sharp as tacks. I mean, how else would they get into National Capital University?

After hearing us out for a bit, they quickly figured out that Brad was the center of the drama, and I was getting bullied by some chick trying to mess with our relationship.

A few girls from my class strutted over and practically shoved Jenny away. "Seems this old lady's got personal stuff to handle. She can do it after our hangout. At her age, she should be home taking care of herself instead of causing drama. It would make her age faster."

Old lady! That had me rolling.

Hearing herself called an old lady, Jenny's face twisted with rage, and her skirt hem quivered.

"You dare butt into my business? Get lost, or you'll regret it," Jenny snapped, trying to scare off the students.

But the students of National Capital University weren't pushovers.

"Haha, we're probably not as good as you at snatching someone else's boyfriend. Excuse me, old lady, what exactly are you? Whatever you are, please don't bother us. It's super rude."

"Yeah, old lady. Mr. Pitt and Jane are head over heels for each other; no way they'd split up over some like you. Even if Mr. Pitt wanted a side chick, he'd pick someone young and hot, not an old lady like you. Mr. Pitt's taste isn't that bad."

Jenny was about to clap back when a disposable cup full of beer came flying out of nowhere, just grazing her shoulder and spilling all over her.

Luckily, the cup was disposable and had no sharp edges, so it couldn't hurt anyone. Otherwise, in Jenny's current state of rage, she might've called the cops.

Jenny's fake gentle act started to crumble; she couldn't keep her anger in check.

Just then, Adam strolled up from behind. "Oops, my bad. Slipped right outta my hand. What should I do? I dirtied your clothes, old lady. How about you take 'em off, and I'll buy you a new set?"

I tried to keep a straight face, but inside, I was dying.

'Hold on, hold on! Asking Jenny to take off her clothes? Are we auditioning for a strip show? Let's keep it PG-rated, okay?'

I didn't expect Adam to roast her without even using any bad words, making Jenny fume.

The students were all super protective of their classmates and teachers. Hearing this, they all burst into laughter.

Jenny was about to lose it. If her legs weren't shaky, she might've charged at us.

"Old lady, save some dignity for yourself and leave. Don't mess with my teacher and Jane's love life."

"Exactly! Is being a mistress so great? Should we all go to your house tomorrow and hang a banner? But you know, our teacher has a girlfriend. If you insist on being a mistress, I wonder if the law protects that."

Jenny must've regretted bringing up the fact that boyfriend-girlfriend relationships weren't protected by law.

Another wave of laughter erupted, with some students laughing so hard they were clutching their stomachs on the ground.

These students might be young, but their words were savage. And I loved it.

Thank goodness I had these students around; otherwise, I would've had to put in so much effort arguing. There was definitely strength in numbers.

The students' relentless comments left Jenny speechless and looking awful.

Jenny probably regretted picking such a crowded occasion to stir up trouble.

And the main character of this whole mess, Brad, didn't react at all. If it weren't for his strong grip around my waist, I would've thought he was asleep and missed the whole thing.
