Chapter 405 Misunderstanding
I grabbed a slice of bread, slapped it on an empty plate, and sliced it right down the middle with a knife, splitting it perfectly in half. "Alright, this half is Brad. I'll eat it first, let it settle in my stomach, and then it'll make its way to my heart, safe and sound."
"This other half? It's everything I talked about earlier. I'll eat it next, let it spread through my body, turning into the energy I need to get stuff done. Then, I'll be ready to welcome Brad back."
With that, I picked up the "Brad" half of the bread, shoved it into my mouth, and chewed it up, swallowing it with determination.
'Brad, I'll wait for you, no doubt about it. Don't let me down.'
Mia put down her fork, touched my forehead with one hand, then her own, checking if I had a fever. She sighed and asked, "Jane, are you sure you're okay? Can you really stand by everything you just said? You're not losing it, right?"
Mia's questions were a bit blunt, but I knew she was genuinely worried about me, and that was enough to warm my heart.
I looked straight into Mia's eyes and said seriously, "Mia, I'm fine, totally normal. Yeah, I cried a lot last night and thought about a ton of stuff. Finding a soulmate isn't easy. The love between Brad and me is something special. It's just two years, and I'm willing to wait and trust because Brad is worth it. So, no, I'm not crazy; I'm just being honest about my feelings."
"Good, good." Mia nodded over and over. "I was really worried that when Brad comes back, he'd have to deal with a crazy woman."
I was speechless.
After class that morning, I hit up Adam and, following his advice, signed up for driving school.
The instructor was a friendly-looking middle-aged guy.
By the time I left the driving school, it was already noon, so I asked Adam to grab lunch at a nearby restaurant.
The place wasn't big, just a bunch of two-person booths. Our table was by the window, and Adam and I sat across from each other, eating quietly.
It was just a regular lunch, but by the afternoon, it was all over the school forum. Someone had edited the story, blowing the whole thing out of proportion.
When Mindy told me to check the forum, saying I was now a school celebrity, I logged in, totally confused, and found a post with less than a hundred words that had thousands of comments.
I looked at the attached picture, which showed Adam and me sitting quietly in the restaurant. Because of the angle, it made us look super close, with our heads almost touching. Adam was slightly raising his head, looking at me with a gaze that screamed "tender lover."
I replayed the whole lunch in my head, but I couldn't remember Adam ever looking at me like that.
As the comments kept piling up, it felt like our lunch was turning into some epic love story at National Capital University, making me rethink everything.
Then it hit me.
He wasn't looking at me at all; he was eyeing the food in my bowl.
What a huge misunderstanding!
Just as I was figuring out how to clear things up so everyone would believe me, Adam spoke up out of nowhere.
With just a few words, Adam set the record straight and managed to annoy me at the same time.
"I'm Adam. I have someone I like; Jane, across from me, has a boyfriend. We just happened to have lunch together, and I was only interested in my food. Misunderstanding cleared, please don't spread false rumors. If there are any untrue statements, expect a visit from the police."
As soon as he said that, the forum went dead silent.
But within three minutes, a new wave of activity started. The people who had commented before began liking his post.
After half a day of drama, the whole thing had mostly died down by evening.
I thought I could finally get a good night's sleep, but then my New Feed started buzzing, and the notifications kept coming, successfully ruining my drowsiness as I lay in bed after a bath.
I opened my New Feed and almost fainted with joy at the post that had disturbed my sleep.
The friend who posted it had a cute avatar of a boy holding a baseball bat, wearing a tilted cap, full of energy.
The post's style was just like Brad's—simple yet meaningful, with no text, just a picture.
In the picture, a taller boy was holding a girl with pigtails in his left hand, while his right hand held a thin whip, raised high. It was unclear what the girl had done wrong, but the boy's mouth was spewing various symbols, indicating that he was scolding the girl, as if he was furious, yet the whip in his right hand never came down.
I looked at the picture and started laughing. As I laughed, tears began to fall.
I finally realized that as a member of National Capital University, Brad must have registered on the university's forum. The post about Adam and me this afternoon was popular enough to attract the entire school's attention.
Clearly, Brad had seen it too.
Brad had told me long ago to stay away from Adam.
Today's picture of Adam and me on the forum must have made Brad jealous.
That girl in the picture was definitely me because I didn't listen to him and stay away from Adam, and now Brad was going to deal with me.
