Chapter 356 Frustration

This news was totally awesome!

But hey, FutureVision's success wasn't all me. I just threw in some cool paintings to jazz up the houses. Gotta admit, I did my bit, though. No shame in that.

After busting my butt for so long and seeing results way beyond what I imagined, I was over the moon.

Still, in front of Professor Evans, I had to keep it cool. Couldn't let him see me lose my chill. He'd probably be bummed if I did.

"Thanks a ton, Professor Evans, and big shoutout to FutureVision for the props. I'll keep grinding hard." I gave Professor Evans a respectful nod, showing my appreciation.

Professor Evans was a big deal in my painting journey. He put in a ton of effort to help me out. Without him, I wouldn't be where I am today, or at least not this fast. Seriously, I'm super grateful to him.

Brad shot me a grin, his eyes sparkling with happiness.

"You're the best, babe," he mouthed.

I thought, 'Why does it seem like he's more stoked about my praise than I am?'

Professor Evans looked pretty pleased with my reaction. Stroking his imaginary beard, he chuckled and said, "Good job, Jane. You're not getting cocky. Keep it up. Your future's bright; you might even outshine me soon."

"And what's the bad news?" I asked, curious.

Professor Evans' smile faded, and he cleared his throat, looking a bit sorry. He turned to Brad. "The school's got a huge new project, and they specifically want Brad to lead it. So," he looked back at me, "Brad, you're gonna be super busy. Like, no time for a relationship busy for the next year or so."

I thought, 'What? If Brad's gonna be even busier, how are we supposed to hang out? Why can't I just have a normal relationship like other girls—dating, movies, walks, eating out, shopping?'

I said, "Professor Evans, there are tons of talented folks at the school. You can't dump everything on Brad. He's just a regular guy, and he gets tired too. At least ask him what he thinks."

Professor Evans glanced at Brad. "Your girlfriend's becoming a big shot in the industry. If you don't hustle to keep up, how will you support her in the future? Today's youth want it all—comfort, fun, and fame. But they don't get that it takes a lot of hard work. Anyway, Brad, if you don't want this project, I can talk to the school. No promises, though. They really want you to lead it."

Professor Evans gave me a stern look, like I was the one holding Brad back.

His words left us both speechless, just staring at each other in shock.

We both wanted to work hard and support each other. Professor Evans always had a way of snapping us back to reality when we got off track.

Plus, being personally requested was a big deal. Saying no would be kinda rude.

More importantly, Brad might miss out on a rare chance. Good opportunities like this could really fast-track his success and get him closer to his goals.

I got what Professor Evans was trying to do, but I never thought my future husband had to be super famous. With our skills, just having a normal relationship, getting married, raising kids, and living a simple life would be enough. Fame and status are cool, but not a must for us.

I said, "Professor Evans, maybe you should think it over. National Capital University has a lot of talented people. Always putting everything on Brad might make others resentful."

Evans shot back, "I don't care about opinions. If anyone has the guts to confront me, I'll handle it. If not, they should just deal with it. So, Jane, it seems you don't want Brad to take this project. I didn't expect someone who usually seems smart to be so short-sighted, only thinking about love and holding Brad back."

I felt my face heat up with embarrassment.

Professor Evans, I was just asking if there was another way. Brat was my boyfriend, my future husband, the guy I would spend my life with. Of course, I wanted him to succeed.

Brad saw my frustration and wanted to step in.

Before he could, Professor Evans cut him off, "And you, Brad, I've always seen you as a top example, telling everyone you're my most promising student with unlimited potential. Yet, you seem clueless and let yourself get wrapped up in love. You're really letting me down."

Brad and I exchanged a nervous glance, not daring to say anything. We hadn't even had proper dates.

Evans sighed, "I think you two are nuts and need help. Anyway, I'm not your dad, so talking too much is pointless. Just tell me, Brad, are you taking this project or not? If you say no, I'll ask for a replacement right away. If they don't agree, I'll swallow my pride and cancel the collaboration to avoid putting you in a tough spot. This is a huge opportunity. If you do well and impress the organizers, you could earn tens of millions in bonuses. Are you so rich you don't need the money? Just tell me, are you in or out?"
