Chapter 301: Forgiveness
Brad, still kinda ticked off, yanked at his tie with his free hand. He shot an irritated glance at Adam, and then gave me a cold look that screamed, "He's here for you, so deal with it already."
I sighed and thought, fine, I'll ask.
But surprise, surprise, Adam totally ignored me. Instead, he switched his grip on the bag, hugging it like it was a teddy bear, and stood right in front of Brad. "Mr. Pitt, this is a special delivery from your colleague's hometown. He's busy with family stuff and couldn't bring it himself, so he asked me to do it. Hope you like it."
I figured the colleague Adam mentioned was the same one who had Brad visit the rehab hospital last night.
So Adam wasn't here for me after all!
Brad didn't see that coming, and his face was a mess of confused expressions.
He was clearly embarrassed but still tried to keep a straight face.
I shot Brad a dirty look, feeling totally wronged. Let's see how he handled this!
I stomped off into the building, ignoring Brad, who was still trying to get his face under control.
Who wouldn't be pissed?
Once I got home, I kicked off my shoes, slipped into my comfy slippers, and ran to the window to peek outside. No one was at the entrance, so Brad must've come in too.
As I rummaged through my wardrobe for post-shower clothes, Brad barged in.
I pretended not to see him, pulling out a T-shirt and debating which pants to wear. Suddenly, I felt his warm body press against my back.
Brad nibbled my ear, his breath making me shiver and go weak.
My cheeks burned with embarrassment.
Brad was seriously seductive!
He used to use words, but now he was all about physical seduction. With just two thin layers of clothing between us, I could feel his chest muscles against my back.
"Get off me, I need to shower," I said, trying to push his face away with my shoulder.
Brad chuckled, his voice all husky, and bit my earlobe a bit harder. "I haven't even gotten mad at you yet, and you're already mad at me."
"Stop biting me. I even defended you when you had that midnight date with Jenny. What more do you want? Adam wasn't here because of me, so why glare at me? You're just being a jerk."
"Alright, it's my bad. I shouldn't have been jealous and made you feel bad. Can you forgive me this once, please?"
Hearing his sincere tone, I decided to forgive him but still acted mad.
"What should you do for my forgiveness?" I said, crossing my arms.
Brad hugged me from behind and blew softly on my shoulder, his voice so tender it made my ears burn. "What should I do then? How about I offer myself to you?"
"You always offer yourself. I don't want that. But I bet Jenny would love it if you offered yourself to her."
Brad, cracking up at my words, started tickling me. "You never quit, do you? I'd offer myself to Jenny, but I'm pretty sure someone would cry and then leave me all alone."
"Who would cry?"
We were goofing around when Larry called.
I seriously think Larry has a sixth sense for killing the mood.
I caught my breath, still giggling from the tickling, and answered the call. Larry's excited voice came through, "Jane, the model home designs for FutureVision are out, and the promo effect is amazing. Pre-sales are through the roof. A bunch of potential buyers said they were hooked by the awesome wall paintings and illustrations. And these are just the model designs. Once the houses are built and fully showcased, it'll be even better."
"Really, Larry? That's awesome news!" I was stoked.
"Yes, keep it up. Don't slack on the remaining parts. FutureVision's ad team is top-notch, and as the project's artist, you might get famous from this. I called for two reasons: one, to give you props for a job well done; and two, to remind you to stay humble and keep up the good work."
"Got it, Larry. I'll keep that in mind." His words made me snap to attention.
"Good, keep pushing. Pick up the pace on the rest, but don't cut any corners. Once it's done, I might take you out for some inspiration."
"Thank you, Larry. I understand."
"Oh, and Rafael's birthday is next month. He mentioned inviting you. He'll send the details once they're set, so be ready and make sure you don't have any schedule conflicts."
Ending the call, I felt a mix of happiness and worry.
Happy that my work was getting recognized, and I was finally making a name for myself.
Worried about Rafael's birthday invite. Why would he invite me when we've only met once?
Rafael was Larry's son, so I should go out of courtesy. But remembering Rafael's gaze last time made me uneasy and reluctant to go.
But since the invite came through Larry, skipping it would seem rude. Rafael probably knew this and had his dad tell me.
Whatever, I'd just bring Brad. No way Rafael would try anything with Brad around.
That night, lying in bed and listening to the water running in the bathroom, I remembered the hungry look in Brad's eyes when he saw me, shirtless, at the bathroom door. I had a feeling tonight wouldn't be quiet and that something was definitely going down.
When Brad came out wrapped in a towel and stood at the bathroom door looking at me, my heart started racing.
Brad's eyes were full of desire. I jumped up and grabbed the towel to dry his hair.
