Chapter 163: Calling a Cab

Brad shot his arm out to shield my head. Daniel's hand brushed against Brad's arm, and his face turned stormy.

Amelia burst out laughing, totally disrespectful.

Even Ryan had a smirk this time.

Daniel shook his head and chuckled, "You little rascal."

That tone made me wanna puke.

Twenty-two years, I've known him for over twenty years. Even when he was all lovey-dovey with Zoe, he never talked to her like that.

How can someone change so much after just one beating?

Feeling awkward, I scooted closer to Brad, and before I knew it, I was practically in his lap.

By the time I realized I was too close and tried to move away, it was too late. Brad raised an eyebrow, eyes twinkling with amusement, and pulled me closer.

Daniel paused, then suddenly smiled and said, "Jane, Helen said your luggage isn't packed yet. She wants you to head back early."

I almost lost it laughing. Lillian and Amelia looked disgusted, and even George was speechless.

Helen knew I was out with Brad, and she had a huge beef with Daniel. No way she'd tell him about my luggage.

He couldn't even come up with a decent excuse. His brainpower was that limited.

But I was fuming that he tried to mess with Brad's dignity in front of my friends.

I snapped, "Why do you care if I go back early or late? What's it to you?"

Lillian slammed her fork down, "I'm done eating, lost my appetite."

Brad stayed cool, "Daniel, I promised Helen I'd get Jane home safe. If she asked you to remind us, I can call her right now to explain."

Daniel's eyes darkened, his left hand clenched into a fist. He lowered his head, staying silent.

After a bit, just when we thought he'd storm off, he looked up again, dodging Brad's words, and said with a gentle smile, "Alright, don't get mad. Hurry up and eat, don't keep Helen waiting."

"I've got Brad to take care of me, you don't need to worry. If there's nothing else, can you leave us alone?"

"Fine, you guys eat. I'll just sit here for a while. It's a bit far from my place, and it's hard to get a ride. I'll go back with Brad."

During that meal, Daniel endured everyone's disdain and stayed until we all finished eating.

When we got to the car, he used his height and long legs to snag the front passenger seat and locked the door once he was settled.

I wasn't wearing much, and after sweating from the barbecue, the cold winter wind hit me like a ton of bricks. I hugged my arms tight, shivering.

"Daniel, that's my seat. Move to the back." I stood by the front passenger side, glaring at him, refusing to budge.

Brad, looking all serious, told him to move to the back or get out.

Daniel just ignored him, scrolling through his phone like he didn't have a care in the world.

I was so mad I wanted to kick him.

Even George couldn't take it, knocking on the window and telling him to man up and stop being a jerk.

But Daniel sat there like he was deaf, eyes glued to his phone, basically telling us he wasn't moving and we couldn't do squat about it.

"Daniel, can you stop being a pain and just leave us alone!" I was about to blow a gasket.

Brad, clearly amused by Daniel's antics, looked at him for a full minute, then got out of the car, taking me with him. "Jane, let's call a cab."

"Okay," I said, grabbing Brad's arm and heading to the roadside.

"No need to call a cab, get in, we'll go together." George pulled up and called us over.

Brad and I hopped in the car.

That night, before I hit the sack, I talked to Brad on the phone and couldn't help but ask about Daniel. Brad, trying not to laugh, said that Daniel drove the car home himself. He didn't say a word when he got back, just stormed to his room with a sour face and didn't come out again.

I was so happy I rolled around on the bed.

Two days flew by, and Brad came to pick me up to fly back to Regalia together.

As expected, Daniel tagged along with Brad and booked the same flight as us.

I didn't mind. It wasn't my plane; anyone could use it. As long as Brad was there, Daniel wouldn't dare pull any stunts.

The airport lounge was packed, mostly with college students heading back to school. The young, smiling faces everywhere were a nice change and put me in a good mood.

Brad and I sat together, with Daniel's seat back-to-back with Brad's.

We still had some time before boarding, so Brad and I leaned in close, chatting quietly.

"Brad, I'm a little worried."

"What are you worried about?"

"The school might be big, but you still run into people all the time. What if Daniel and Zoe bump into each other one morning or afternoon? What will Daniel do?"

Brad pinched my cheek, looked around to make sure no one was watching, then suddenly kissed me, whispering, "That day will come sooner or later. I don't know what Daniel will do. I just want to know, if you and Louis run into each other when I'm not around, what should I do?"
