Chapter 382 Scum

Amelia looked at Ryan and said, "Ryan, if your memory's shot, let me remind you: we broke up ages ago. The day we talked about marriage was the last straw for me. Ever since you ditched me for another girl, we're done."

She went on, "I think I've made myself pretty clear. You don't get to make demands anymore, and I'm not gonna be your doormat like I was for the past six years. So, whether you're right or wrong, whether you wanna talk about marriage again, it doesn't matter. I'm not reaching out to you, and you better not bug me again. Seriously, have some self-respect and stop pestering me; it's gross."

Ryan's face turned ice-cold. He grabbed Amelia's wrist, his voice low and angry, "Amelia, do you even know what you're saying?"

Amelia slapped him hard, and I couldn't help but feel a bit of satisfaction. "Ryan, have I ever told you how disgusting your shameless behavior is? Let me say it again: we're done. My life has nothing to do with you, and I don't wanna hear another word about yours. From now on, we're never seeing each other again."

Ryan snapped, "Amelia, you were the one who wanted to be with me in the first place. Who gave you the right to say we're never meeting again?"

Amelia's lips curled into a sad smile. The anger and sadness in her eyes faded, leaving only a deep sense of desolation. But her voice stayed firm. "I liked you back then, so I wanted to be with you. Now I don't like you anymore, so yeah, I say we're never meeting again. When I loved you, you were like a beautiful crystal glass in my hand. Now that I don't, I'll let go, and you'll just be shattered glass. Got it?"

With that, Amelia turned and walked away, her steps firm and resolute, leaving Ryan standing there in shock.

Amelia was seriously cool. I fought the urge to applaud and hurried to catch up with her.

Ryan, realizing what had happened, tried to go after her again. Adam rushed over, and then I heard a dull thud followed by Ryan's cries of pain and retaliation.

The two of them started brawling, quickly drawing a crowd of curious onlookers.

I exchanged a weary glance with Amelia, who angrily kicked Ryan one last time before storming off again, dragging her suitcase behind her.

Ryan yelled, "Get lost! Who said you could interfere in my business?"

Adam shot back, "I don't need anyone's permission."

Ryan threatened, "If you don't get lost, I won't be nice about it."

When I finally caught up with Amelia, I saw her face was already streaked with tears.

We waited by the car for about five minutes. Adam came running back, pressing a wound on the corner of his mouth with his thumb while unlocking the car door with the remote. He kept sneaking glances at Amelia's swollen eyes.

The car cruised down the highway, the quiet cabin filled with the faint smell of leather; no one said a word.

It wasn't until I had taken Amelia upstairs, guided her into the bathroom for a shower, dressed her in comfy home clothes, and laid her down to rest, watching as her breathing steadied and she fell asleep, that I remembered Adam.

Adam had left after dropping us off downstairs. When he left, he had hesitated a few times but ultimately said nothing.

Wasn't he supposed to blow up the airport? Instead, he just started a fight with Ryan without any words. It was like he showed up just to beat the crap out of Ryan.

I really wanted to ask Adam what his deal was at the airport, but then I figured it wasn't my place. I'm not anyone special to him, and I have no right to question his actions.

After a nap, Amelia seemed way more energetic and even had a smile on her face. I invited Mia out, and the three of us went to grab some good food.

Yancy had some stuff to handle at home, so he dropped Mia off at the restaurant and told her to call him when she was done so he could pick her up.

Mia and Amelia were two people I often talked about; they knew of each other but had never met.

When Mia and Amelia finally met, they both exclaimed how they regretted not meeting sooner and instantly hit it off. They cursed bad men together and laughed their heads off.

Especially when we talked about Ryan's antics, Mia's anger seemed even stronger than Amelia's. Mia cursed Ryan with every nasty word she could think of. With a touch of bravado, Mia also patted Amelia's shoulder and declared that if Ryan ever dared to bother Amelia again, Amelia should call her immediately. Mia promised to rush over and help Amelia teach that shameless Ryan a lesson.

I loved this and eagerly asked to join their beatdown squad, and they happily accepted me.

We all imagined Ryan getting beaten to a pulp and laughed heartily.

Amelia laughed too, but there was still pain in her eyes. I believed that with time, she'd definitely get over it.

As we were finishing our meal, Amelia said she didn't like hotels and asked if she could crash at my place for the next few days. Mia suddenly burst into laughter.

I asked Mia why she was laughing, and she said my place was like a refuge for women heartbroken by love. Amelia even nodded in agreement.

During the meal, they also learned about my current situation with Brad.

Mia, worried about me, wanted to stay at my house for a few days to help come up with a plan against Jenny. But Yancy came back just in time and coaxed Mia back home.

After dinner, with nothing else to do, I took Amelia to Crystal House. I painted while she kept me company.

At first, Amelia was really happy. When we were kids, she often kept me company while I painted. After we grew up, especially after going to college, we never did that again.

Now, having the chance to relive those childhood memories made both of us really happy.

But when we got to Crystal House, Amelia became very uneasy, like she didn't know what to do with her hands and feet. She kept her head down, and even when I asked her questions, her responses were totally incoherent.

When I paint, I get super focused. To keep Amelia from getting bored, I handed her off to Adam, who we had met briefly during the day.

At ten o'clock in the evening, I put away my easel and got ready to take Amelia home. Adam, like an excited rabbit, insisted on taking us back, but I refused. He kept hinting at something, leaving me totally confused.
