Chapter 323 Counterattack

Damn, did Jenny just ask Brad to hang out on her birthday? Wasn't she trying to make him her boyfriend or something?

Jenny's voice always had this soft, calming vibe. And now, with her saying stuff that could melt most guys, she sounded even more delicate and sweet.

Especially that last bit, where her voice got all choked up, but she tried to act tough and hold back her feelings. If I didn't know the whole story, even as a girl, I'd be heartbroken hearing it.

After listening to the fifty-second voice message, the four of us at the table had different reactions.

Mia was so pissed she was stabbing her food like it was Jenny and chewing it like she wanted to tear it apart.

Yancy, even though he's young, was pretty chill. He just glanced at the phone, sneered, and made a gagging motion.

Brad probably didn't expect Jenny to be so blunt, nor did he think I'd play the message out loud. He also didn't expect that out of the four of us, three would be totally grossed out by Jenny, with no one feeling bad for him. Brad was pissed off, and someone was gonna pay.

I was gonna hand the phone to Brad and let him deal with it. But then I thought, didn't he just say I could handle it? So, reluctantly, I decided to take care of it for him, to make up for playing the message in public.

I said, "Sorry, Jenny, Brad doesn't hide anything from me, so I accidentally heard your confession. I'm really happy there's one more person who loves Brad. I think conflicts between people have nothing to do with age. Sometimes I love to be moody and throw tantrums, but that's all because Brad spoils me. I can't help it. This feeling of being unconditionally pampered by Brad is pretty awesome. When you find a boyfriend of your own, you'll get it."

"Besides, our love is growing stronger every day, even if we're not always on solid ground. But Brad and I will never break up unless one of us dies. He's just not letting go. Thanks for worrying about Brad and wanting to make it up to him even when you're sick. Brad and I are sure our love will only get sweeter with time."

I made sure to use a sweet, cute voice when I said this. "Oh, Jenny, it's your birthday tomorrow. Brad and I will definitely celebrate it with you. Tell me what you like, and I'll buy it as a birthday gift for you."

After I sent the voice message, the chat box stayed dead silent for a whole ten minutes, even after we finished breakfast.

I couldn't even begin to imagine Jenny's face or mood when she eagerly opened three voice messages from the Brad she adored, only to hear my voice instead.

Yeah, I admit, I wanted to make Jenny feel bad. But hey, she always made me feel bad first.

The morning's drama blew over pretty quickly.

I'm the kind of person who forgets stuff as soon as I'm busy with something else. So, the whole Jenny-inviting-Brad-to-her-birthday thing slipped my mind as soon as I turned around to chat about a painting with a student.

In the afternoon, after subbing for Professor Evans, I walked out of the lecture hall and saw Brad, ever the diligent boyfriend, waiting for me under a small tree. He stood there all casual, with a faint smile and deep affection in his eyes. When he looked at me in the crowd, he was so much softer.

Thanks to a few posts on forums and confession walls, my relationship with Brad had become an open secret on campus.

Young boys and girls saw Brad looking at me from a distance and gasped. A short-haired girl who seemed kinda familiar boldly hooked her arm around mine, pulled me down the steps, and pushed me towards Brad.

I was wearing high heels, so I almost lost my balance when she pushed me. Brad quickly reached out with both hands to steady me in front of everyone.

Before I knew it, I was already in Brad's arms. I stood up straight from his embrace.

"I love hugging you, but everyone's watching," Brad said, his eyes twinkling with a smile.

Laughter erupted behind me; a few excited girls nearby whispered to each other, thrilled.

Brad helped me stand steady. My face turned bright red, and I didn't dare to look up.

Brad said, "Everyone, please be considerate. Go about your business and don't delay me and my girlfriend from spending time together."

I thought, 'How can Brad say stuff like that so calmly?'

Brad was handsome and a great teacher. Even though he hadn't been at National Capital University for long, he was already well-known among the faculty and students.

As soon as Brad spoke, the students who respected and admired him laughed and ran off.

"Why'd you come over?" I asked Brad.

He held my hand. Like any ordinary couple on campus, we strolled through National Capital University.
