Chapter 307 Retribution

What could I even say about him?

Daniel was just straight-up ruthless!

Adam wasn't around. How the heck did he know something went down with Daniel and give us a heads-up? Super weird.

I shot Brad a questioning look. He just shook his head, clueless too.

The pissed-off look on Brad's face made it clear he hadn't seen this coming either.

Rachel and I had been involved for a period of time and I got to know her a bit. Zoe must've found out Rachel had a thing for Daniel and dragged her here to stir the pot. Turned out, Daniel knew it, and their showdown turned into a three-way mess.

In the end, Zoe might've tried to blackmail Daniel with the baby she was carrying. But Daniel didn't give a damn about the kid and made her lose it, leaving her in an even worse state.

Regardless of how things played out, I couldn't bring myself to feel sorry for Zoe. And as for Daniel? Pity him? Not a chance.

Wasting my time on these two was so not worth it.

Zoe's bloody state showed she needed a hospital ASAP, but this kind of drama was really not Brad's thing to handle.

"Rachel, what are you doing here, and why are you covering your face?" I let Brad deal with Daniel and walked over to Rachel. Seeing her all messed up, I felt a bit heartbroken for her.

"Jane, the music department has a gig, and the guitarist got hurt. I know Daniel plays guitar well, so I thought of asking him to fill in for a few days. But Zoe ran into me and tricked me, saying she knew where Daniel was and brought me here."

I nodded. Classic Zoe move.

I stared at her face, "What happened here?"

"Zoe hit me. She said I was shameless and trying to seduce Daniel."

"And what about her? What happened to her?"

"I know about her and Daniel. After she hit me, I realized I fell for her trick and tried to run. She chased me but tripped and fell herself. Jane, it has nothing to do with me. I didn't touch her."

The bloodstain under Zoe was getting bigger, and her eyes were filled with deep resentment.

Rachel had probably never seen anything like this before. She was so scared her face turned pale, and she shrank behind me, trembling.

"Jane, what does this have to do with you?" Zoe cursed, looking like a total maniac, and her sharp screams almost pierced my ears. "You're all after Daniel, huh? I'm telling you, Daniel is mine. You have no right. Get out, get away from me."

"Nonesense! I came to find Daniel for something important. I wasn't seducing him." Rachel clenched her small hands into fists in anger and shouted back at Zoe, trying hard to defend herself.

I really couldn't understand how Zoe could claim Daniel as hers after what she did to him. In this world, anyone could go after Daniel but Zoe. Because she had no right.

Then again, a jerk like Daniel deserved someone like Zoe to mess with him.

She accused me of trying to seduce Daniel, but I wasn't about to admit to something I never did.

If it were Daniel, I'd rather be single forever than make a move on him.

Besides, I had Brad, my amazing boyfriend. Why would I ever look back at Daniel?

I wouldn't do something that dumb.

But Zoe's bogus accusations were something I couldn't just let slide.

I clenched my right hand twice, trying to muster the strength to slap her and shut her up.

But the blood pooling under her was too much, and my hand, hanging in midair, couldn't come down.

The scene of Mia lying in a pool of blood replayed in my mind, stinging my eyes.

Zoe was awful, but I couldn't just watch her die.

I glanced at Brad and saw him putting away his phone. He nodded at me, signaling that he had called the ambulance.

The ambulance showed up fast. After they put Zoe on the stretcher, the doctor asked who would go with her.

Daniel silently climbed into the ambulance. Rachel wanted to go but was too scared, just holding my hand tightly. I had no choice but to get in too. Brad saw me get in and followed behind.

"Brad, I got this. You go back and take care of the tickets."

"Tickets can wait, I'm not leaving your side. In case something else happens, I can help."

The ambulance sped away from the campus.

"Who's the patient's family? Hurry up and pay the fees and handle the paperwork so it doesn't affect the rescue."

Everyone looked at Daniel.

Daniel took the paperwork from the nurse and went to handle it. Brad and I sat on the bench waiting, while Rachel, still freaked out, leaned against me. She kept whispering if Zoe would die from losing so much blood and that it had nothing to do with her. It was Zoe who tricked her and hit her, and she never touched Zoe.

Rachel was clearly terrified, swearing over and over again to prove her innocence.

I was a bit scared too. Zoe was awful, but her crimes didn't warrant death. Even if she were to die, it shouldn't be in front of us like this.

We had to save Zoe.

Rachel kept mumbling about her innocence and fear, and I had to comfort her.

Brad stood up and walked to the side to make a phone call. I didn't know what he said, but it was definitely about what had just happened.

Over an hour later, Zoe was wheeled out of the emergency room and placed in a temporary ward.

We followed her into the ward, while Brad stayed outside.

Zoe was conscious, her face as pale as a ghost, her eyes half-open, and tears still clinging to the corners of her eyes.

She looked pitiful, but I didn't feel sorry for her.

Zoe had done so many bad things, and she would eventually face retribution. It was just a pity for the child in her womb.

The nurse adjusted Zoe's IV and scolded, "You need to take care of yourself.  A miscarriage at over four months is very harmful to your body. Your uterine wall is already thin. It might be harder to get pregnant again, so please be gentle with yourself."
