Chapter 341 Farewell
After goofing around all day, I was beat. It was rare to have such a chill night; I was ready to crash.
Then, I heard this faint sigh in the room; it sounded super familiar.
Half-asleep, I let out a soft sigh too.
Brade was worried, and so was I. But to keep each other from stressing out, we didn't talk about it.
For each other, we were down to face all the crap life threw at us. I guess that's what love's all about.
We were both grown-ups, crazy in love, and we both wanted to be each other's rock. Because we loved each other deeply.
Jenny was always scheming. Today, she got shut down by Brad in front of everyone again. Given her character, she wouldn't let that slide.
To get back at us, she'd use the deal Brad agreed to as her weapon. Pulling it off would be a nightmare.
But as long as Jenny went along with Brad's conditions, no matter what else she threw at us, no matter how tough, we'd get through it. Maybe I couldn't do much, but I'd always have Brad's back. What kept us going was all those beautiful days of being together and our deep love.
The next day, Brad got a message from Jenny on Facebook. She said she was leaving, had already booked a ticket, and apologized for everything, hoping we'd forgive her.
Brad and I were both softies. We weren't scared of her causing trouble. But when Jenny suddenly apologized, we both remembered we had wronged her too.
What she owed us was endless mental torment. What we owed her was a living human life and her two legs that might never stand again.
After all, she saved Brad in such a dangerous situation. Without Jenny, I couldn't even imagine what Brad would be like. And how important two healthy legs were to a young woman!
Brad asked Jenny what she'd do about the unfinished rehab if she left now.
Jenny said her family had a medical team, and she'd slowly rehab at home. She'd get better eventually. She told Brad not to worry.
Then Brad asked about her flight time, and Jenny sent a pic of her ticket. This time, she didn't say how long she'd be gone, nor did she mention her feelings for Brad.
I thought maybe she had let go or seen through it all. I hoped everything was as I think.
Without schemes and forced compliance, Brad also let go of his resentment towards Jenny and sincerely wished her well, saying he'd take me to visit her when he had time.
Her reply came after a while, with just one sentence.
Jenny: [We will meet again.]
A simple sentence, clearly Jenny's hope for the future, but to me, it seemed to have a deeper meaning.
From this, I concluded that what she wanted Brad to do in the future would be particularly difficult. Her personality wouldn't allow her to leave so easily, especially with a plain and simple message without any deeper meaning.
On the day Jenny left, Brad and I went to the airport to see her off.
When we arrived, Jenny was sitting in a wheelchair waiting for security check, surrounded by a few familiar subordinates.
Seeing Brad and me holding hands in front of her, Jenny silently stared at our interlocked fingers for a full three minutes.
Brad shook her hand, said his goodbyes, and she responded to each of his words with a smile.
We watched her enter the security check area and disappear into the crowd.
With Jenny gone, our world suddenly became quiet. Time, space, and happiness all increased invisibly, and even the sky seemed bluer.
Without any outside drama, Brad dove into a new research project and got super busy again. Whenever he came home a bit late, he'd whisper an apology in my ear, saying he was hustling to make bank so that once we hit financial freedom, he'd quit his job, stay home, and handle all the chores while I just needed to look pretty.
I got lost in my studies and projects too. Whenever I had some downtime, I'd chat with Adam and the crew about the upcoming competition, hyping them up. I wasn't competing myself, but if the team I led won, it’d be a huge honor.
This grind lasted until the end of October. I wrapped up all four big drawings for FutureVision's model rooms. Professor Evans checked them out, showered me with praise, and called me a rare genius.
I shared every happy moment with Brad; life was hectic but awesome.
Two days later, FutureVision hit me up, saying their general manager had seen my four main design drawings and was super impressed. He was really looking forward to the unfinished parts.
On the surface, it was a nod to my skills, but it was also a heads-up not to slack off. Basically, the unfinished parts had to be just as good.
Of course, I wasn’t about to half-ass it. I had my professional pride and wouldn’t do anything to mess up my rep or tarnish Professor Evans' good name. Plus, I might stick around in this industry. I knew better than anyone how crucial personal image and professional conduct were.
I threw myself back into drawing, not wanting to waste a single second. I wished I could turn into a robot that only needed to recharge, no eating or sleeping, just to save time and energy.
In early November, I got some great news from Mindy and Louis. They were finally tying the knot, and the wedding was set for the end of the month.
When Brad climbed into bed, I was obsessing over their electronic invite and wedding photos.
Louis looked all dapper and handsome; Mindy was stunning and gentle. They leaned into each other, gazing with deep affection, making me a bit jealous.
In just a year, Louis had learned to look at Mindy with such deep love, proving that falling for her wasn't as tough as he thought. Looking back, the feelings Louis had in his youth, after letting them go, weren't some unforgettable romance. They were just a bit of reluctance towards that special one he met during his teenage years.
In a great mood, I couldn't help but send my congrats to Mindy. It seemed she was holding her phone, waiting for my reaction.
Mindy immediately replied, warmly inviting me to be her bridesmaid.
Mindy said she had eight bridesmaid dresses ready, and mine was custom-made to my size. She assured me I'd look gorgeous in it and insisted I come, saying I'd be the most beautiful bridesmaid at the wedding.
I thought about it and declined.
She knew about the past and understood my stubborn nature, so she accepted my refusal.
The events back then were known to many, and a lot of people in their social circle had seen me. Countless people despised and looked down on me, including Louis' mom and Mindy's mom, who were the worst.
I never intended to crash their world, nor did I want to become a target for their mockery and disdain. Their realm held no appeal for me, and I definitely wouldn't subject myself to humiliation. I had my own way of living and my own pride.
