Chapter 155: Each Pays Their Own

'Is this road your turf? You think you can just stroll around with anyone you want?

What does he think I am, a joke?

I've said it a million times, the guy I like is Brad. Right now, I got nothing to do with Daniel, and I won't in the future. Knowing full well I was dating Brad, he just waltzes over and says he likes me.

What a shameless jerk.

I get it now, whether it's Daniel or Emma, they're both way too full of themselves and have crappy personalities.' I thought.

"I know you're cursing me in your head. Go ahead, curse away. I deserve it. I'm here to tell you that starting today, I'm gonna compete with Brad fair and square. You can try to get back at me however you want, and I'll take it all. My purpose today is to let you know to be ready for my pursuit. I'm leaving now, but from today on, I'll be seriously chasing after you, no matter what."

'Seriously chasing? Sounds more like he's out for revenge.' I mused.

The word "lunatic" was on the tip of my tongue, but before I could say it, he stood up and walked away with big strides, like a soldier heading to battle.

This move really left me speechless.

Even when Lillian and Amelia sat down next to me, I still hadn't snapped out of the shock Daniel gave me.

When I finished telling them what happened, they were both so shocked, their mouths were hanging open.

"There are actually people this shameless in the world."

"Exactly, and he has the nerve to say it. All those disgusting things he did before, does he plan to just forget them? He can forget if he wants, but others can't."

"Jane, didn't you ask him? If he really likes you that much, what's the deal with Zoe? Back then, he was so madly in love with her that he even went on hunger strikes. Now he says he doesn't love her anymore?"

"I think so too. Maybe Daniel was driven insane by Zoe's cheating."

"I never expected him to be so shamelessly justified. Honestly, I almost threw up."

"Let me tell you, think carefully and don't make the wrong decision."

"Exactly, if you rekindle things with that trash Daniel, our friendship is over."

'Do they really think I'm that dumb?' I thought to myself.

I angrily finished my orange juice.

The three of us wandered aimlessly on the street.

There were few pedestrians, making it impossible to ignore Zoe.

Zoe had been the root of all problems for the past two months, so ignoring her was not an option.

Before we could say anything, Zoe saw us first. Her face stiffened, and she looked like she wanted to turn and leave. For some reason, she took two steps away but then turned back, waving at me.

That wave really ticked me off.

Amelia, with her fiery temper, was about to say something, but I stopped her. I mimicked Zoe's wave, smiling and waving back.

'You think you're the only one who can be annoying?' I wondered.

I admited I was being a bit petty, but against someone pettier, my little tricks were nothing.

We weren't far apart, just across the street. My good eyesight, honed from years of training, let me see Zoe's expression clearly.

Seeing my wave, Zoe's face got even uglier. She bit her lip and stood there, staring at me.

You had time to waste, but I didn't. I still had shopping to do.

I ignored her and started walking.

Zoe followed.

According to the old script, she should've teared up, then with eyes full of tears, pitifully said, "Daniel, did I do something to make Jane misunderstand? I'll apologize to her, okay?"

But now, without Daniel to back her up, she had no support and no longer looked weak.

She had different faces for different people. It's a pity she didn't go into acting.

She stopped me and said, "Jane, I want to talk to you."

Daniel had just talked to me, and now she wanted to talk. Did they think I had nothing better to do than play their games all day?

To them, if they wanted to talk, I had to talk. If they wanted to kick me, they could just kick. They don't care about my feelings at all.

"Fine, let's talk. You pick the place."

I waited indifferently for her to decide where to talk. She led the way to a small alley and into an ice cream shop.

The shop was empty. The young owner was leaning on the counter, bored. Seeing us come in, his dull eyes finally lit up, and he enthusiastically asked what we wanted to drink.

Zoe sat down without a word, clearly not planning to order anything and intending to leave right after talking.

Since we were already here, occupying the place without ordering felt wrong. But if I had to treat her, money wasn't the issue—I was financially independent now. The key was I didn't want to treat her.

"Zoe, even though you invited us, there are more of us, and we don't want to take advantage of you. Let's each pay for our own drinks. Order what you want and pay for it yourself. We'll do the same."

After saying that, the three of us huddled together, enthusiastically discussing what to drink.

Zoe, being blatantly ignored, turned red with shame and anger, clutching the buttons on her coat. She probably didn't expect me to embarrass her like this. She held back her temper and finally said, "I'll treat."
