Chapter 305: Just Saying

"I don't think Jenny meant it like that. But hey, I'm a married dude, so hanging out here late ain't cool; it could mess with your rep. It's super late now, so I'm gonna bounce. Jane and I will head back. We'll be back in the morning. I'll make sure you and the nurse get a proper explanation. No one's getting wronged Chill, okay?"

Brad, being all gentlemanly, gave a slight bow, basically saying he'd handle it, leaving no room for anyone to complain.

He was talking to Jenny, but also to the caregiver and the two dudes, one tall and one short.

The caregiver, not being dumb, got what Brad was saying. Knowing the real deal, she forced a smile and said thanks, adding it wasn't a big deal and maybe he should just let it slide.

Jenny, getting shot down by Brad in front of me, turned red with shame and anger, and didn't say another word.

The tears in Jenny's eyes were gone, replaced by anger, resentment, and the embarrassment of getting rejected again and again.

This time, Jenny even disgusted herself.

Brad and I left the room first, with the nurse trailing behind.

As we got close to the nurse's station, we heard loud noises from the room, like something had been thrown and shattered.

I figured Jenny's heart, which was all about Brad, had probably shattered too.

I hoped she'd cooperate with her treatment and get better soon. We'd always remember her kindness. As long as she stopped going after Brad, who wasn't hers, we'd treat her like family for life.

But with Jenny's current state, who knew what the future held.

She'd clearly fallen into a love trap. She thought she was right even though she was trying to take Brad, who was already taken.

If this kept up, Jenny would eventually wear out our gratitude. When that day came, she'd have nothing left.

The nurse muttered something under her breath, too soft for me to catch. Judging by her face, it wasn't anything nice, but I didn't ask. Everyone's got the right to vent, especially under such baseless accusations.

But as the on-duty staff, she was also responsible for not noticing when the patient got the key and unlocked the door on her own.

Brad rubbed his temples and said helplessly, "This Jenny is so annoying."

Annoyed? I was even more annoyed! Who was I supposed to complain to?

Being pissed, I glared at him again.

If anyone was annoyed, it was me, okay?

But I couldn't be too jealous; I had to be cool because, besides a life-saving debt, there was nothing between Brad and Jenny. Overthinking wasn't fair to Brad, but if I didn't think enough, Jenny might pull some sneaky moves.

After leaving the hospital, with no one else around, Brad put his arm around me and playfully bit my ear. "Are you really that unwilling to do something for your dear husband?"

I suddenly remembered what he said in the ward about being a married man, and my face quietly turned red.

I didn't really catch it when he first said it, so I didn't react. Now, thinking back, I felt pretty embarrassed.

I pushed his face away with my hand. "Hold up, when did you become a married man? Who'd you marry behind my back?"

Brad dodged my hand like a pro and pressed his face against mine again. "You're my wife, and I'm your husband, right? As for getting married, if you're in a rush, we can do it first thing tomorrow morning. Or, when we get back, I can tell you all about my assets?"

"Who's in a rush? You're the one in a hurry."

"Yeah, I'm in a hurry, but it's not just up to me."

Brad put on that pitiful look again. He buckled me into the passenger seat and started the car.

Whenever this topic came up, I felt overwhelmed.

I usually talked a big game, but when it came to serious stuff, I was a mess. So I pretended not to hear.

It was almost midnight when we got home. Yancy and Mia were anxiously waiting on the couch.

"Why are you up?" I asked Mia, who hadn't fully recovered and had just gotten back from Eldoria City. The cold weather there had made her uncomfortable, and she should've been resting.

Mia took my bag and hung it on the wall. "I woke up and couldn't sleep. How's Jenny's injury?"

She definitely had been woken up from sleeping and kept waiting for me because she was worried about me.

I recounted everything that had happened, and Mia, furious, said, "Is Jenny nuts? How can she still be after someone else's boyfriend after all these years?"

Seeing Mia angrier than I was, I felt touched.

But given her poor health, I didn't want her to get worked up over my issues, so I comforted her.

My situation was way better than hers; at least Brad and I were on the same page. Unlike Benjamin, who wanted both women.

But saying that would definitely hurt Mia, so I kept my mouth shut.

Luckily, Yancy was here. I couldn't predict the future, but for now, they seemed to get along well. Yancy could pull Mia out of her despair, and that was enough.

As for the future, it would depend on their efforts.

Back in the room, Brad was on the phone. Judging by his serious expression and tone, I guessed he was talking to Jenny.

"Jenny, I've told you a million times. I don't know if you misunderstood or if I wasn't clear enough. Let me say it again: the only person I love in my life is Jane. I don't like you, not in the past, not now, and not in the future. Even if it weren't Jane, it would never be you. So, stop doing these pointless things.

I'm grateful you got hurt for me, and I'll do anything for you within the bounds of morality and law, but don't cross my line."

Since you put it that way, I'll forget about today. But if something like this happens again, I'll address both issues together."
