Chapter 523 I Don't Have Someone I Liked When I Was Young

I didn't look at Ryan's expression anymore. I walked to an intersection ahead and stood there waiting for the pre-arranged car.

Jane was waiting for me, along with Mia. We had planned a hangout and shopping trip that only close friends could join, followed by a carefree feast.

Ryan, who once held the highest place in my life above everyone else, finally stepped aside, giving way to my beloved family and friends.

All of this was because of the wrong choices I made and the unworthy trust I gave.

Fortunately, everything was back on track.

I also have to thank Grace. If it weren't for her appearance and deliberate actions, Ryan and I might still be entangled for some time. That would have been truly terrifying for me.

The car arrived, and the driver was a young girl.

I sat in the back seat and saw Ryan sitting on a bench by the road, opening a round box and staring blankly at the birthday cake inside.

My tears just flowed down.

Goodbye, the person I loved for five years.

Goodbye, the person I once thought was my lover.

In the future, I would find someone willing to walk with me, but it will never be Ryan. The part of the journey that Ryan and I could walk together officially ends here.

The days that followed became very ordinary and peaceful.

The work of a police officer was tough, often working overtime until late at night, very tiring. As a newcomer, I worked tirelessly every day to learn as much as possible from my seniors, even taking care of their daily needs as part of my tasks.

Fortunately, my home wass near the police station, and it took less than ten minutes to walk.

I was very busy, and very tired, but also very fulfilled.

Everything was moving in a good direction.

Many times, dragging my exhausted body alone late at night, I felt someone following me.

Many times, I wanted to stop and tell him not to come anymore, that I could handle it alone.

But every time I turned around, there was nothing behind me, just emptiness.

Later, I just walked on my own, never looking back again.

I quickly found joy and a sense of purpose in my busy work. I fell in love with this job.

When I wasn't busy, I would meet up with Jane and Mia to enjoy our favorite foods and visit streets selling antiques, hoping to find a priceless treasure for fifty dollars.

My parents and brother were very reassured about my current state and mentioned the idea of marriage again during our phone calls.

I assured my parents that when the time was right, I would naturally meet the right person for me.

What I didn't expect was to see Adam again.

Before this, I had almost forgotten about Adam's existence.

I was supposed to meet Jane, but she had to cancel at the last minute.

I was about to head back to my dorm when I heard someone calling my name, the voice somewhat familiar.

I looked up and saw a tall, thin boy running towards me from a distance.

It wasn't until he stood in front of me that I realized it was Adam, whom I hadn't seen in a long time.

"Do you have time? There's something I want to talk to you about. It won't take long, okay?"

Adam, who was half a head taller than me, looked at me expectantly like a puppy waiting for its owner's command.

The meal we had during training was pleasant, and since he was Jane's student, he was technically someone I was familiar with.

Since he was someone I knew, it was normal to talk about things.

"What is it? Go ahead."

Adam's eyes lit up, and he took off the bag he was carrying, unzipped it, and first took out a slightly yellowed photo, handing it to me, indicating that I should look at it.

I took it and looked at it very seriously for a while but couldn't make anything out of it.

The photo showed a group of men and women, about a dozen people, with three or four children squatting in the front row, grinning with missing teeth, smiling happily.

It looked like a family photo, but everyone was unfamiliar to me.

"Why do you want me to look at this?" What I really wanted to say was, I don't know any of these people. Are you crazy for showing me this?

Adam remained silent and took out another photo, placing it in my hand.

The background of this photo looked like a park, full of children. The child in the front was grinning with missing teeth, smiling happily, and the boy behind him looked older, with a cold expression.

I didn't recognize them either.

I had to ask Adam, "Is one of these children missing? Do you need police assistance to find them?"

Adam pressed his lips tightly and didn't answer, then took out a third photo.

This time, I saw something.

The two boys in the front row were the same boys from the first two photos, but grown up.

They looked somewhat similar, with one being cheerful and the other gloomy, a stark contrast.

I was looking at it seriously when he handed me a fourth photo.

If I couldn't see anything from this one, I might as well be blind.

It seemed to be a small family gathering, with the two boys sitting on either side of an elderly man in his seventies. Their faces vaguely resembled the old man's.

The two boys, the older one was Ryan, and the younger one was Adam.

I suddenly remembered Jane asking me if there might be a special relationship between Adam and Ryan.

From these photos, they not only had a relationship but a very close one.

But their relationship had nothing to do with me. Why was Adam showing me this?

I looked up in confusion, and Adam, looking slightly nervous, carefully put the four photos back in his bag and solemnly announced something that shocked me.

"Ryan is my cousin. We are the only two boys of this generation in the Price family. When I was a sophomore in high school, I saw your photo on his phone, and you left a deep impression on me. After you broke up with him, I saw you a few times and was moved by your optimism and strength. Last time, I went to your training place specifically to see you because I wanted to meet you.

Amelia, let's officially meet. My name is Adam, and I am twenty-one years old. The reason I came to you today is to tell you that I like you, Amelia. I know that because of Ryan, you probably don't want to have anything to do with the Price family. But I am not him. My feelings for you are genuine, and I have never had a crush or been in a relationship. I approached Jane only because of you. From now on, whether you like it or not, I will start pursuing you. I hope you are mentally prepared."

Honestly, I would never have imagined, even if you beat me to death, that this Adam, who is three years younger than me, would say such a long and shocking speech to me.

I stared blankly at Adam, not understanding how he came to like me, how genuine his feelings were, or if he was here to get revenge on me for Ryan.

Adam didn't say anything, like a patient hunter.

Gradually, a mischievous smile appeared in his eyes.
