Chapter 294: Warning
So, there was this one time Zoe got Daniel knocked down by John, and the dude was all bloodied and bruised. I helped him out, cleaned him up.
Fast forward to tonight, and it's my turn to get Daniel knocked down, this time by Brad. Same deal—blood and bruises everywhere. But now, it's Zoe doing the cleanup.
On the ride back, some chill tunes were playing. Brad kept sneaking glances at me, cracking little jokes to get me to open up.
After that blackout incident, Brad noticed I was all over the place emotionally, so he got us this new place. With his support, I hadn't had nightmares in a while. But today's drama freaked both of us out.
He was scared I'd spiral back into my old, depressed self.
I shut my eyes, trying to calm down, pushing those scary memories away.
Slowly, I got my head straight.
Honestly, Daniel didn't do anything crazy today. It's just that my beef with him ran deep. Anytime he got close, my body freaked out, wanting to bolt.
Looking back, I realized I had overreacted.
"Hey babe, you okay? Need to see a doc?" Brad asked, all worried.
I opened my eyes, met his concerned look, and gave a weak smile. "I'm good, Brad. I just freaked out. Whenever I'm around Daniel, all the bad stuff comes rushing back."
"Glad you're okay," Brad said, squeezing my hand. "If you don't wanna deal with him, you don't have to. I'll take care of it."
When I got out of the car, my legs were jelly, and I almost face-planted.
Brad scooped me up and carried me inside, laying me down on the couch.
"Jane, you look like hell," Mia said, seeing me all messed up. She quickly got Yancy to grab towels and hot water, then gently cleaned me up.
With Brad's support, I calmed down. I told Mia what went down, and she got so mad she started cussing.
Brad stayed close the whole time. He knew Mia had my back and didn't mind her trash-talking Daniel, even though he looked pretty pissed.
Honestly, I felt torn. Deep down, I wished I could just write Daniel off and never deal with him again.
But from Brad's angle, I couldn't do that.
No matter how much of a jerk Daniel was, he was still Brad's little brother. I couldn't let my issues mess up their relationship. Even though Daniel's actions were gross, Brad always had my back, so nothing too bad happened.
Still, I felt pretty damn wronged.
At night, Brad held me close, letting me rest my head on his arm. He patted my back with his other hand, humming a tune to lull me to sleep.
For the first time, I realized Brad's husky voice was pretty damn sexy when he hummed.
With Brad by my side, I slept like a baby, no nightmares or anything.
When I got up, Yancy had already whipped up a killer breakfast and was checking Mia's luggage to make sure nothing was missing.
But where was Brad? Was he buried in his endless schoolwork again?
Standing in the living room, I felt abandoned and so wronged I wanted to cry.
The luggage was still in the same spot as last night, but Brad was MIA.
"Why the long face, like a lost puppy? Mr. Pitt already checked your luggage and went out for a run. He'll be back in ten minutes. Are you seriously gonna cry just 'cause he left for a bit? Maybe you shouldn't go. If you miss Mr. Pitt and cry in the middle of the night, I can't bring him back for you."
Ever since Mia bounced back mentally and physically, she was back to her old cheerful, straightforward self, always teasing me and making me laugh.
Teasing me was one thing, but now she was even joking about Brad. No way I was letting her get away with that. Payback time.
Since Brad hadn't ditched me, I was in a good mood and ready for some revenge.
Using my height and strength, I caught Mia and pinned her on the couch, tickling her like crazy. "How dare you tease me? You got a death wish? Watch how I deal with you."
We were having a blast when Brad walked in. His short hair was a bit damp, and even his gaze seemed to carry the morning mist.
Petite Mia was no match for me, laughing until she was exhausted but still refusing to beg for mercy, which only made me tickle her more.
Brad watched us with a smile.
Eventually, Yancy, feeling sorry for Mia, stepped in to rescue her.
Our flight was at 1 PM. After grabbing lunch outside, Brad drove us to the airport.
While waiting in line for security, my phone rang. It was Adam.
Adam and I barely acknowledged each other these days. I couldn't even remember the last time he called. Why now?
Under Brad's icy stare, I nervously answered the call and put it on speaker. "Hey, Adam. What's up?"
"Not much. I heard you're heading out. Be careful and stay safe. Bye."
He hung up before I could even respond!
I stared at the darkened screen, confused, then looked at Brad. Was Adam just calling to wish me well?
"When I'm not around, you're not allowed to take his calls or meet him alone. Stay away from him," Brad said angrily.
'I'm going to Eldoria City, and Adam is in Regalia. How could I see him casually?' I thought, , but I didn't dare say it out loud.
