Chapter 496 Michael

Jenny tried to play it cool, using the excuse of feeding the baby to make a quick exit, but I could see right through her. She was totally freaking out.

She badmouthed Brad and thought she could just bail? No way!

At first, I was trying to stay positive and keep things light, but now I was standing my ground, no doubt about it.

Even though Jenny was putting on a calm front, I caught a glimpse of her panic.

If she was so sure of herself, why was she freaking out?

She was lying.

I saw it, and with all these people around, I'm sure some of them saw it too. Whether Jenny was telling the truth or not, I think everyone had already made up their minds.

The kid wasn't Brad's, or Jenny didn't know who the dad was. I couldn't understand why, with all the tech we have now, she was still using her kid to manipulate people. Wasn't she embarrassed to be exposed like this?

Plus, her kid was really young, and dragging him into this mess couldn't be good for him. As a mom, it was baffling how she could be so careless about her child's well-being.

Could Jenny really be using her own kid to get what she wanted?

If so, that poor baby.

Jenny's words were infuriating, and just as I was about to snap back, Brad pulled me aside and whispered, "Let me handle this."

Fine, this was his issue, so it made sense to let him take the lead.

I held onto Brad's arm, standing by his side in front of everyone, giving him silent support.

"Ms. Taylor, you say the kid is mine, I say he isn't. But those are just words. You refused a paternity test, which is fine. But to get to the truth, clear my name, and find out who the real father is, I'm calling the police." With that, Brad pulled out his phone.

Jenny shot back, "Do whatever you want. My baby is hungry, and I don't have time for this. I'll leave for now, Brad, but I'll be back. Boys need their fathers to grow up smart and brave. I won't let you miss out on his life."

As Jenny tried to leave again, I quickly stepped in her way.

"No, you're not leaving until we clear this up." I stood firm, blocking her path.

She wanted to leave without explaining anything, which to me, screamed guilt.

Brad, being a guy, couldn't just grab Jenny; it would look bad if he got into it with her.

But I could. To protect Brad's reputation and clear his name, we had to see this through.

If we let her go now, it would be hard to sort this out later.

So, I wasn't letting Jenny go unless she agreed to go to the hospital or the police station.

The crowd's chatter grew louder, and someone shouted, "Jenny, don't leave; it looks like you're guilty if you do."

The crowd agreed, all saying we needed to get to the bottom of this."Brad, we don't need to go to the hospital. I'm from the medical school, working on a genetics project with my mentor. A paternity test is a piece of cake, and we can do it right here."

Jenny's face went white as a sheet, her panic now out in the open.

"Michael, get over here!" she yelled, and a few guys came over.

One of them was Michael, the guy who always seemed to be trailing her.

Michael looked serious, took the baby, and started to leave. "Stop it, let's go back; the baby will catch a cold."

Jenny was stunned for a second, but then her face twisted in anger. "Michael, you useless idiot; you don't stand up for me when others are bullying me. Do you want to get fired? The child is mine, and you have no right to speak."

I was speechless.

She was acting like she had lost her mind.

I couldn't help but wonder if Jenny had some mental issues.

I asked, "Brad, is she crazy?"

Brad replied, "Maybe."

Michael didn't say a word, just glanced back at Jenny. Seeing her walking slowly, he protected the baby with one hand and held Jenny's hand with the other, leading her away.

Jenny couldn't just leave. Brad was being falsely accused of being the father of her child, and we needed to clear this up.

I ran a few steps forward, trying to stop Jenny.

Michael's guys quickly stepped in, blocking Brad and me, forming a wall in front of us.

I watched Jenny walk away, feeling helpless, angry, and anxious. I reached out to push them aside.

One of the men swung his arm, and I almost fell.

Brad was really worried now. He caught me and raised his fist to hit the guy.

This wasn't going to work.

Since we were on school grounds and Brad was a teacher, he couldn't just start a fight; it would ruin his reputation with the students.

More importantly, violence wasn't the answer.

I hugged Brad, telling him not to act impulsively.

As I was calming Brad down, I saw a group of people running out of the building, heading our way. Seeing Brad and me surrounded, they split into two groups: one chased after Jenny, while the other surrounded Michael's men, blocking their path.

Jenny was stopped and couldn't leave, and soon the police arrived, taking us all to the station to sort things out.

I never thought I'd end up in an interrogation room.

The police asked, "Who called us?"

I raised my hand. "I did."

The officer said, "Describe what happened, and remember to tell the truth. Speak to the camera."

I learned for the first time that police work was now fully recorded.

With the police in charge, I had no reservations and told them everything I knew.

The police seemed a bit troubled, as this was a personal matter that would be best resolved privately.

But this issue had seriously damaged Brad's reputation, and it had to be cleared up.
