Chapter 391 Caption
Yancy was basically saying he'd pull some strings with the Bailey family to help me out if needed.
Mia took a sip of her soup, smiling contentedly at Yancy's words. She seemed pretty pleased.
Yancy's promise cleared my head. I had a bunch of good friends ready to back me up. I wasn't in this fight alone.
No matter how sharp Jenny was, she couldn't stand up to the Bailey family. Yancy, Brad, and even Rafael had all made that clear.
Yancy wanted to marry Mia, so he had to get on my good side first. It made sense he'd try to win me over. He wasn't just doing it for me; he was making sure he could marry Mia down the line.
I felt a mix of shamelessness and happiness. With Professor Evans and Yancy on my side, getting Brad back safely was just a matter of time.
My mood lifted. "Thanks. If the school's decision doesn't go our way, I'll need your help," I said politely.
Before Yancy could reply, Mia jumped in, "Yancy, Jane is super important to me. You have to take their situation seriously. I can't stand seeing Jane upset."
Yancy nodded, "I know, don't worry. Mia, stop picking out the beef. You're weak, and beef is really nutritious. You should eat more."
Yancy speared a piece of beef and brought it to her mouth. Mia wanted to refuse at first, but under his earnest gaze, she hesitated, blushed, and accepted the meat.
This must've been Yancy's first successful attempt at feeding her. He was so excited he almost danced with joy. If it weren't for the dining setting, he might've jumped up right there.
Mia knew I was under a lot of stress and wanted to stay with Amelia to keep me company. But Yancy managed to coax her away.
After a shower, I called Brad several times, but he didn't pick up. Jenny was probably behind it.
I also sent Brad a bunch of messages on Facebook, urging him to reply as soon as he saw them, even if it was just a word.
Ten minutes passed with no response; my relaxed mood started to tense up again.
I was lost in thought when Jenny posted another update. The image showed today's date, taken half an hour ago. In the photo, Jenny, dressed in formal attire, smiled sweetly at the camera. Brad, in a dark gray suit, held a glass of red wine, seemingly toasting someone, with a polite smile on his face.
My heart started pounding.
That was my Brad, the Brad I'd been thinking about for ten days, the Brad I'd been worried about for so long.
Brad looked fine, just a bit thinner, but his eyes still had that sparkle.
I stared at Brad's face in the photo, my nose tingling.
I thought, 'Brad, you're okay. Why aren't you answering my calls or messages? What's going on?'
I touched the screen, tracing Brad's face, the one I'd been longing for day and night. Tears started streaming down my face.
I looked at Jenny's caption again: [Winter winds are cold, but with you, I am warm.]
Damn it! Just as I was cursing Jenny in my head, she posted another update that made my blood boil.
The picture showed two hands wearing matching rings, one large and one small. The large hand was Brad's, with my lucky bracelet still on his wrist. The small hand was clearly Jenny's.
What pissed me off even more was Jenny's caption: [A love that goes both ways.]
Within minutes, the comments started rolling in.
[Congrats to Jenny for finally being with Brad.]
[Jenny's found such an amazing husband. She's one step closer to joining the Taylor family.]
There were tons of comments—some envious, some jealous, but most were mocking. Sincere blessings? Not a single one.
Clearly, Jenny wasn't just disliked by me and Brad.
With Jenny's shady character, it was no surprise she didn't have real friends.
Still, Jenny managed to get under my skin.
If I couldn't see through such an obvious provocation, I'd be a fool.
Jenny was trying to provoke me, using Brad to mess with me. She must think I wouldn't dare do anything.
Jenny had seriously underestimated me. Especially now, after being apart from Brad for ten days, with my anger, resentment, and worry at their peak, I was ready to explode. Jenny couldn't afford to mess with me.
I looked at the first photo again, studied it, and started typing my comment: [Is Jenny also captivated by my boyfriend's good looks? Brad, as a gentleman, take good care of Jenny.]
Then I looked at the second photo and posted another comment: [Jenny is quite skillful; the lucky bracelet is beautifully made. I also made one for Brad, but mine is a different style and not as delicate as Jenny's. Fortunately, Brad likes it and wears it every day.]
Yeah, the hand holding Jenny's wasn't Brad's. There were two pieces of evidence: Brad's right hand had a thin callus from holding a paintbrush for years, and his skin was a healthy tan. The hand holding hers was pale, smooth, and had yellow stains on the right index and middle fingers, clearly from frequent smoking.
