Chapter 278: Spoiling the Wife

I was totally floored by the sudden switch in Larry's vibe and shot a look at Brad, all wide-eyed.

"Did I just see that? Is this the same Larry we know, the one who's always so strict?"

Brad just shrugged, looking kinda helpless, and leaned in to whisper, "Larry's always been head over heels for his wife. He's like our hero."

Larry, hearing this, gave Brad a playful slap on the back and started scolding him for not respecting his elders and wasting all his hard work.

Brad took the slap like a champ, then straightened up, bowed respectfully, and said, "Hello," while still holding my hand.

Mrs. Evans, whose real name was Sofia Rodriguez, was drop-dead gorgeous.

A babe like Sofia totally deserved all the love Larry's got to give.

I never would've guessed that stern-faced Larry had such a knockout wife at home.

Was this really the mom of a twenty-year-old son?

I gawked at Sofia's face, which looked so young she could easily pass for someone in her twenties, totally stunned by her beauty.

I just stood there, dumbfounded, as Sofia walked up with a smile and took my hand.

"What are you staring at? No matter how much you look, she's not yours," Larry grumbled, giving me a light knock on the head, snapping me out of my daze.

"You're drooling," Brad teased.

I quickly wiped the corner of my mouth with my free hand, then saw Sofia smile. Seeing the warmth in her eyes, I suddenly snapped back to reality.

"You're so beautiful."

I raised my hand, wanting to touch Sofia's face, wishing I could kiss her.

Larry, with his stern face, slapped my hand away and pulled Sofia into his arms, scolding me, "Don't even think about my wife. What a rogue. Brad, get your girlfriend outta here."

Brad turned his head and chuckled.

Larry really adored his wife.

Sofia blushed at Larry's words.

"What are you saying? I think Jane is very well-behaved. Don't scare her. Don't talk about Jane like that again."

"Alright, alright, I get it. Everyone's more important than me," Larry grumbled, but didn't dare to speak loudly. He muttered softly, glaring at me so fiercely that I almost sat on the floor.

Larry was so gentle with his wife but so harsh with me. Totally unfair.

"Mrs. Evans, Larry is so intimidating. How did you decide to marry him? It's been over twenty years, do you have any regrets?"

Before I could finish, Larry angrily took off his shoe and swung it at me, making me scream and run around the room.

After a bout of laughter and chaos, it ended with Brad shielding me, while Sofia pulled Larry by the ear and cornered him against the wall to scold him.

When Rafael walked in, he saw the four of us panting in two groups. He shook his head with a helpless smile.

We had dinner together at Larry's place, with Sofia cooking and Brad helping out.

At the dinner table, Larry was in high spirits. Since we were all friends, Sofia let Larry drink, making him so happy he clinked glasses with Brad.

Sofia sat at the table with Larry and Brad, while Rafael only had one drink before putting down his glass. After dinner, he joined me on the terrace to enjoy the night view.

I loved terraces. Whenever I went somewhere new, I'd instinctively explore, and even if I found a tiny three-feet-wide terrace, I'd be over the moon.

I had tried to figure out where this hobby came from but couldn't pinpoint it. Until one day, when Brad was sitting on a terrace chair reading a book, I suddenly realized it all started with him.

I remembered that as a kid, my favorite thing was to squat in the gap of my terrace and secretly watch Brad seriously reading on his terrace.

Many times, when Brad wasn't around, I'd quietly climb onto his chair and pretend to read. Later, Brad went away to study and didn't come back often, but I'd still stand there for a while whenever I went to his house. I'd look at the spot that used to belong to the chair and Brad, silently reminiscing about the young Brad.

Larry's terrace was super spacious. It had been enclosed and turned into a reception room, decorated with fancy flowers and a few unique small sofas.

Rafael looked at me with a focused gaze.

I couldn't figure out what he was thinking, nor could I assume this focus was affection, especially since we had just met today.

I just found his behavior really strange.

I waved my hand in front of his eyes. He smiled and raised his hand to catch my fingers. I quickly pulled my hand back and placed it behind my back.
