Chapter 424 A Person of Eminent Status

Back then, I thought Ronan's fish tank was the coolest thing ever. The neighbors were all jealous, and I bragged about it to my friends all the time, bringing them over to check out my fish.

For the longest time, whenever my friends talked to their parents, they'd always start with, "Jane's fish tank."

But today, when I saw that fish wall, I realized there was a whole world out there I knew nothing about.

I never imagined a fish tank could look like that.

Standing in front of that fish wall, I felt so small.

I looked up and watched a little silver-blue fish darting around.

I'd always had a thing for beautiful things.

As I was lost in thought, someone laughed and patted my shoulder, "What are you looking at that's got you so captivated?"

I turned around and saw it was Mindy. Louis, in a black suit with his hands in his pockets, stood behind her, smiling.

I let out a sigh of relief, happy to see some familiar faces, "You guys are here too."

"All because of Louis," Mindy pouted, giving Louis a playful glare. She pulled me aside to sit down, rubbing her ankle and complaining, "We had a dinner reservation, but he canceled it to come to this party. So annoying."

Louis walked over and pulled Mindy into his arms, placing his big hand on the back of her neck, and gently said, "Your foot hurts? I'll carry you back later, okay? It won't hurt if I carry you."

I couldn't help but laugh.

My laugh made Mindy, who was full of complaints, turn shy. She raised her hand to hit me, but I dodged playfully.

Louis held Mindy's hand, rubbed it twice, then lifted it to his lips and kissed it. Mindy's face flushed deeply, "Stop it, Jane is still here."

"We're married, what's wrong with a kiss? Have you rested enough? We should go." Louis chuckled softly, his eyes and smile full of tenderness.

Louis, who used to frown at the sight of Mindy, now married her and proudly showed off their love everywhere.

I had never seen Louis be so tender with anyone, not even when we were dating. Some feelings were just meant for the right person.

Mindy was the right person for Louis.

I watched as Louis and Mindy walked away, feeling only a sense of blessing and comfort.

Mindy's unwavering love for over a decade finally earned her the love she wanted. Given Louis's personality and the compatibility of their families, he would surely cherish Mindy for a lifetime.

What about my love?

The next two years seemed endless and unbearable.

After admiring the fish wall, I sat on the leather sofa at the entrance of the club, full of anticipation. A freshly squeezed juice was in front of me, and I kept my eyes on the revolving door, hoping Brad would appear any moment.

I sent Brad my real-time location. If he wanted to see me, he would find me. Brad would spot me with just one glance, look at me with his gentle eyes, and smile warmly.

All I had to do was sit here and hope for a miracle.

I was sure Brad would show up because today was my birthday. We had this pact that he'd never miss spending my birthday with me.

I didn't know how long I'd been sitting there, my eyes dry and sore, and the sky had turned dark, but Brad never came.

I felt a wave of disappointment and sadness. Brad's promises still echoed in my ears, but he had broken them.

I pulled out my phone and saw birthday wishes from Ronan and Helen, telling me to be happy every day. Amelia and Mia also sent their wishes, even Adam did. Daniel wrote a long message, but I didn't read it and ignored it.

Rachel sent me a pouty, angry emoji along with a dry "Happy Birthday," reminding me not to forget to celebrate her birthday with her.

I could almost picture Rachel giggling while biting her fingertip, and I couldn't help but smile too.

Daniel was annoying, but Rachel was cute.

Professor Evans called, saying the dinner was about to start and I should hurry over.

I glanced at the dark sky outside, smoothed the wrinkles on my dress, and got up to leave. As I walked out, a few luxury cars drove into the spacious courtyard of the club, their lights dazzling my eyes.

When I entered the private room, the large table was almost full. I scanned and saw several familiar faces. I didn't know them personally, but their constant presence in the media made them impossible to miss.

Famous artists, business elites, real estate tycoons—all people of high status.

I never thought I would one day dine with these legendary figures!

Having never seen such grand occasions, I couldn't help but feel nervous, clenching my fists tightly.

Professor Evans noticed I had stopped and gave me a puzzled look, "What are you daydreaming about?"

"Not daydreaming, just scared of all these big shots." I shrank my neck, my legs feeling weak.

Professor Evans gritted his teeth and gave me a hard push on the back, causing me to stumble slightly but not embarrass myself in public.

"What are you doing? You almost knocked me over."

"That's the point, you coward."

I was speechless.

Professor Evans didn't care about my internal complaints and cheerfully introduced me to those big shots one by one.

They probably knew who I was, but as a small fry, I wasn't significant enough to catch their attention.

I understood this well; top-tier people tended to be a bit arrogant.

Dining with a table full of high-status individuals was very stressful. I stayed cautious, only speaking when spoken to, fearing I might say something wrong and embarrass Professor Evans.

During the meal, Professor Evans often directed the conversation to me, praising my talent, hard work, and creativity, and how the projects I had led were setting new trends in the real estate industry.
