Chapter 152 Raymond, What Is He Up To?
Charles figured that Paige had heard those words, so he quickly covered the receiver and lowered his voice to speak to Paige.
"Paige, why are you calling at this time?"
Paige was again, stunned speechless. Was there a specific rule about when she could call?
Or did she have to wait for Raymond to summon her?
Paige initially thought Raymond probably just didn't hear the phone ring, but now it seemed he was simply not in a convenient position to answer the call.
Paige raised her voice. "Since Raymond is back alive, let's leave it at that."
She didn't say much more and directly hung up the phone.
It was one thing for him not to reassure her upon landing, but he didn't even answer her call. And on top of that, there was a sweet voice calling him on the other end.
'Well done, Raymond, well-fucking-done!' Paige fumed inwardly.
She had been worried about his safety, but it turned out to be completely unnecessary.
She couldn't believe how carefree he was!
Indeed, getting married quickly without understanding each other well was unreliable!
Paige angrily hung up the phone, and for a long time, Raymond didn't call back to explain anything.
Paige was a bit upset. Her husband had returned, and the first thing he did wasn't to reassure her but to be with another woman with a sweet voice.
Wasn't Raymond supposed to be abstinent and reserved, not interacting with women for thirty years?
Paige was so angry that she slammed her phone on the desk. She didn't expect to be this furious.
She had always just wanted to take care of Raymond, but later she realized he didn't need her care. Paige thought, since he didn't need her care, it didn't matter whether they divorced or not.
But now, a girl who seemed so close to him had appeared, and Paige was unhappy.
Would Raymond really keep his distance from other women as he claimed?
Paige tried hard to suppress her emotions. What if it was a relative of his?
But in the Carnegie family, Paige hadn't heard of any relatives around his age.
Paige thought of someone and immediately picked up her phone. If it weren't for this, Paige probably wouldn't have made this call.
The call was quickly answered.
The voice on the other end was somewhat excited. "Paige!"
Paige felt helpless.
She spoke in a harsh tone, "You should call me Aunt. If you really can't say it, you can call me by my name. Please don't call me by my nickname in front of outsiders. What does that mean?"
In terms of status, she was Louis's elder.
It sounded awkward for a junior to call an elder by their nickname.
But awkwardness wasn't the main issue. The main issue was that hearing Paige's voice made Louis feel much more at ease.
Since the last company anniversary, he had temporarily gotten rid of Xena's entanglement, but he hadn't seen Paige for many days.
He had heard that Paige and Raymond went abroad to travel and find a way to treat his legs. He didn't expect her to call him.
Louis was, of course, very happy to hear Paige's voice.
Paige didn't waste words and directly asked, "Do you have any aunts or the like?"
Louis was really puzzled by Paige's question. Shouldn't she be very clear about how many people are in their family?
"Grandpa only had two sons in his lifetime."
Paige said, "I mean, like distant relatives or something. Do you have any other young aunts?"
Young aunts... the emphasis was on young.
Louis caught the emphasis.
"What's going on? Why are you suddenly asking this?" Louis asked curiously.
Paige impatiently said, "Just tell me if you have or not."
Louis replied, "Even if there are, we don't really interact with them. Distant relatives aren't close to us and don't visit often."
Hearing this, Paige understood.
The girl following Raymond shouldn't be a distant relative.
He went abroad and brought back a girl who likes to follow him around?
He didn't answer her calls, and even Charles seemed to be wary of her.
This clearly indicated a problem.
Pearl entered the study and saw Paige looking upset. She immediately asked with concern, "Xanthe, are you okay?"
Paige replied, "I'm fine. By the way, have someone keep an eye on the Carnegie family. Never mind, don't bother."
What was the use of keeping an eye on them?
If she really wanted to know, she might as well go there herself.
However, if she rushed over just because she heard another woman's voice on the phone, it would make her seem cheap.
She didn't want to do such a thing.
Pearl was very smart. Hearing Paige say to have someone keep an eye on the Carnegie family but then changing her mind, she guessed it probably had something to do with Raymond. She suggested, "Grace has woken up. Xanthe, do you want to invite the Carnegie family over to celebrate?"
After all, besides the Carnegie family, the Sackler family couldn't really be considered her relatives.
Apart from these people, Paige had no other relatives or friends.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call her a loner.
Paige said, "That sounds good. Once the news spreads, the Sackler family will know that my mom has woken up."
Paige was still very curious about the Sackler family's reaction to her saving her mom.
Especially Xena, who had always been partly responsible for harming her mom. Now that her mom had woken up, Paige was curious about Xena's reaction and what decisions she would make.
Of course, Paige didn't have any expectations for Xena.
Someone who was so indifferent to her mother, allowing her to sleep like a vegetable for five years without any concern, wouldn't change her attitude just because she woke up.
Moreover, Grace had always been powerless in the Sackler family. Even her going out and spending money was controlled by Margaret Trump.
Now that she had woken up, there was nothing for them to exploit. Xena probably wouldn't want to support Grace.
Whether Xena wanted to support Grace or not, Paige just needed her to say it.
She hoped Xena would straightforwardly say she wouldn't support Grace. That way, she and Grace could rely on each other without worrying about their relationship with the Sackler family.
It would be better if they never saw each other again!
She called Bradley, who happily answered, saying he was planning to visit Grace with the whole family once Raymond returned.
As relatives of Paige and Raymond, it would be a formal meeting.
Paige felt a bit touched but quickly caught the key point.
"Dad, hasn't Raymond returned yet?"
Bradley said, "Has Raymond returned? Paige, you should keep an eye on him. It's one thing that he didn't return with you, but why is his phone often unreachable? It's really worrying."
It was indeed quite worrying.
Paige was shocked to hear that Bradley didn't even know Raymond had returned.
What on earth was Raymond up to?
