Chapter 176 Luna Was Afraid of Xena
After giving Paige a fierce kiss on the lips, Raymond finally let go of her, adjusted his hat and mask, and left the hospital, avoiding the surveillance cameras.
Paige never expected that the day she was drugged at Windrain Tower would be her first time with Raymond.
Paige cursed softly, "Damn it."
There was plenty of time in the future; she would remember this debt. Once things settled down, she would definitely settle the score with Raymond.
After Raymond left, the night passed peacefully.
The next day, Paige and Luna had breakfast together.
Pearl walked in from outside and whispered in Paige's ear, "Xena is here to see Mrs. Luna Sackler."
Paige frowned and herface darkened.
Pearl explained, "She might have heard the news and felt obligated to come for appearances' sake."
Paige sighed and said, "Let her in, but she can only stay in the reception room. She is not allowed to see Mom."
When Xena was brought in, she was taken directly to the reception room.
Paige asked, "You're so busy, yet you still have time to come to the hospital?"
Xena didn't want to come, but she had no choice. Margaret insisted she come.
Xena answered, "Paige, what do you mean by that? I'm here to see my mom, and you're mocking me?"
Paige sneered and walked over to the sofa, sitting down. "So, you still remember you have a mother? Do you even acknowledge her as your mother? If you had any conscience at all, would you have treated her the way you did back then?"
Xena retorted, "Do you think I could've done it all alone back then? Paige, know your place. You're just proof of her affair. I'm not here to argue. Take care of her if you want, but you can't stop me from seeing her. Think about it."
Paige couldn't help but laugh at Xena's words. "Argue with me? What a joke. Maybe you had the right five years ago. Now, Xena, what right do you have to argue with me?"
Paige finished speaking and immediately called out, "Julian, see her out!"
Xena pointed at Paige and said, "Serves you right for being abandoned by the Carnegie family and dumped by Raymond. Paige, after you and Raymond are completely divorced, let's see how you pay for Mom's expensive medical bills."
After saying that, Xena was about to leave, but inside the room, Luna seemed to have heard the commotion outside.
Luna, who could only utter single syllables, seemed to hear Paige arguing with someone and, worried, anxiously called out, "Paige, Paige."
This was the first time Luna had called out Paige's name so clearly and completely since she woke up.
Hearing Luna call her name and noticing her speech had improved significantly, Paige was overjoyed. Ignoring Xena, she quickly walked towards the ward.
Seeing this, Xena followed immediately.
Julian stepped forward to stop her, but Xena moved faster, dodging Paige's side. Paige ignored Xena and didn't instruct Julian to throw her out.
Paige hurried to Luna's side. "Mom, what did you call me? Can you say my name completely? Can you say it again?"
Luna, feeling slightly better today, saw Paige come in and, reassured that she was okay, called out again, "Paige."
Paige's eyes welled up with tears as she smiled. "I knew it. Your body can recover. You will be able to speak again."
Paige hoped Luna could speak fluently.
Luna smiled faintly, and in her peripheral vision, she saw Xena.
Suddenly, Luna seemed frightened and burrowed into Paige's arms. "Poison."
Luna clung to Paige in fear, burying her head in Paige's chest.
Paige's face darkened when she saw Xena follow them in. She wondered if Luna was implying Xena was involved in drugging her.
Luna must have woken up when it started, with Margaret and Xena arranging the drug that kept her asleep. Her intense reaction to seeing Xena again showed she really didn't want to see her.
Paige immediately shouted to Julian, "Julian, get her out."
Seeing Julian approaching to grab her, Xena quickly moved towards Luna's bed. She grabbed Luna's arm and shook it, shouting, "Mom, look at me. What do you mean by this? I'm your daughter."
Luna, already scared, was even more frightened by Xena's shaking. She clung to Paige, shaking her head and saying, "No."
