Chapter 248 Bleeding Everywhere
Raymond practically dragged Paige out of the room, his grip firm. In the living room, he pushed her down onto the sofa.
Julian rushed in with a new set of bodyguards, replacing the old ones who were definitely in trouble for their negligence. Seeing Paige's state, Julian kept his mouth shut.
Pearl and Kimberly, who were working late at the office, rushed over immediately after hearing the news. Even Cecil, who rarely showed up, made an appearance.
In the ward, the sounds of doctors working on Luna filled the air. Paige sat there, dazed, barely breathing so she wouldn't disturb them. Everyone else was silent, holding their breath.
After about half an hour with no news, Paige started trembling. Raymond wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. "It's okay, Mom will be fine," he whispered.
Paige finally spoke up, "Francesca set me up; she planned this." She'd been holding it in but couldn't anymore.
Raymond had his own suspicions but didn't want to make Paige feel worse. He knew taking over Louis's work shouldn't have been this hectic on the first day. But the day had been non-stop until he got a call from the Carnegie Manor, forcing him to drop everything and rush over.
Everything today felt too coincidental. The usual routines were the same, nothing seemed off. The bodyguards, the medical staff, even Amelia—none of them saw this coming. Both he and Paige had been deliberately sidetracked.
As Raymond was lost in thought, the doctors wheeled Luna's bed out of the ward. Paige jumped up and followed. "What's happening? What’s wrong?" She glanced at the monitors; Luna's vitals were dangerously low.
Luna was unconscious, with blood coming from her eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, staining the pillow. It was clear she’d been poisoned. A doctor quickly confirmed it. "Ms. Ellison, your mom's condition is extremely critical. She's been poisoned, and we need to perform gastric lavage and detoxification immediately."
Paige nodded. "I understand. Please, hurry!" She didn't have time to blame anyone; she just wanted to save Luna.
The doctor followed the bed, and Paige and the others trailed behind to the emergency room. As the doors closed, Paige stood there, staring inside. Her heart was in her throat, and she was shaking all over.
Everyone heard the news: Luna had been poisoned right after Francesca's visit. Pearl and Amelia stood behind Paige. Pearl whispered, "What happened? How did Ms. Parker get poisoned?"
Amelia shook her head. "I don't know. I already called security to check the surveillance. Francesca was way too bold this time!"
From the timeline, it was clear: Luna only saw Francesca, and then her condition tanked. It must be Francesca's doing.
Pearl was fuming. "How could she do this? Even if she didn't want Louis to get a kidney transplant, she shouldn't have hurt Ms. Parker."
''Poor Ms. Parker. After all the crap from the Sackler family, she ended up with kidney failure. Just when she found a match, this happens. I hope she pulls through; Xanthe's been losing so much weight over this." Pearl had become one of Paige's biggest supporters without even realizing it.
Amelia sighed. "I messed up. Ms. Ellison told me to stay in the ward and keep an eye out. When Francesca came, I let my guard down. If only I had..."
Amelia felt a wave of guilt. If she hadn't followed Francesca out, she wouldn't have been tied up by Francesca's goons. The bodyguards wouldn't have slacked off, and none of this would have happened.
Paige was standing by the ward door when a doctor came out with some papers. "Ms. Ellison, you need to..."Before he could finish, Paige grabbed the pen and signed all the consent forms and critical condition notices. "Save her, keep her alive!" She looked into the emergency room. Her medical skills were useless here. All she could do was wait.
The doctor nodded. "Ms. Ellison, don't worry, we'll do our best."
Paige knew they would, but Luna's condition was dire. She couldn't bear to think about it; she was terrified. "As long as you can save her, she still has a chance."
The doctor went back into the emergency room. Paige couldn't hold it together anymore. As the door closed, she squatted down, tears streaming down her face. Raymond was there, gently wiping them away.
Paige clung to Raymond's arm, burying her face in it. She felt a horrible sense of dread. She had seen it earlier. Luna was bleeding from everywhere, the blood almost black, her heartbeat weak, and all her vital signs were way off.
Margaret, who was also in the hospital, heard about the situation and was helped over by Caleb. She didn't dare come close, just stood at a distance, watching.
She gripped Caleb's hand tightly. "I promised to make it up to Luna and Paige. Why is Luna suddenly in the emergency room? Where's Elijah? Have him find out what's going on!"
Caleb looked around but didn't see Elijah; he hadn't seen him for hours. But he only said, "Aunt Margaret, don't worry, I'll have Elijah check right away."
