Chapter 264 Elijah Took Xena from the Mental Hospital
Margaret was freaking out. "Where the heck have you been?"
She then turned to Paige, "Paige, he's back now. Shouldn't we just let it go?"
But Paige wasn't having it. She saw Elijah shaking like a leaf. "It's been two days. Care to explain where you've been?"
Margaret and Caleb just stood there, not saying a word, waiting for Elijah to spill the beans.
Everyone was on edge, worried Elijah might have something to do with Luna's death during his two-day vanishing act.
Elijah, a bit tipsy, stumbled towards Caleb, who quickly caught him. Paige's face got even more serious.
Elijah, slurring his words, said, "I was just out having fun, drinking with some buddies. Why are you treating me like a criminal? Are you gonna interrogate me?"
Paige's face darkened. Elijah had reeked of booze when he first showed up, but now he seemed even more intoxicated. She could tell he was faking it, and it pissed her off.
She glanced around, grabbed a cup of water from Margaret's nightstand, and splashed it right in Elijah's face. He shivered and glared at her, but the shock seemed to snap him out of his drunken act.
"Feeling sober now? Can you remember where you've been these past two days?" she demanded.
Elijah's voice softened. "I was just out with friends, having some drinks."
Paige pressed, "Which friends?"
Just then, Pearl walked in. "Ms. Ellison, Mr. Ashton is here."
Paige nodded, put the Elijah issue on hold, and left the room.
She handed some items to Locas. "One of these might be from the person who poisoned my mom. I need you to check it out."
Locas put them in a box. "Don't worry, I'll handle it."
Paige pointed to a hair found under Luna's pillow. "First, compare this with Xena's data." She was dying to know if the hair belonged to Xena.
After Locas left, Paige went back to the room. Margaret and Caleb were still grilling Elijah about his whereabouts.
Paige jumped back in, "Mr. Trump, which friends were you with these past two days?"
Elijah didn't want to say. But seeing Paige's stern look, he reluctantly mentioned Frederick Miller. "I was drinking with Frederick. Even if you're the CEO of the Universe Group, you can't control me, can you?"
Paige didn't miss a beat, "Amelia, call and check if Mr. Miller was with him these past two days."
Amelia walked over and started dialing. Elijah got nervous.
Seeing him like that, Paige got even more suspicious. Her face darkened, and she snapped, "Amelia, hurry up!"
Amelia made the call. "Where have you guys been hanging out lately? Didn't you invite me?"
With the phone on speaker, everyone heard Frederick's voice, "Amelia, you've been so busy we couldn't reach you. Want to join us tonight? We're having a get-together."
Amelia smiled. "Where have you guys been hanging out lately?"
Frederick replied, "The usual spot. If it's boring, we can go somewhere else."
Amelia cut to the chase, "Who's been there?"
Frederick replied, "Just the usual crew. It's a shame. Ever since Xena's drama, even Elijah's been MIA."
Amelia pressed, "So Elijah hasn't been with you guys? Not in the past two days?"
Frederick said, "Couldn't reach him. His phone's been off. No clue what he's up to."
Then someone nearby chimed in, "Heard from a buddy that Elijah's looking to skip the country. No idea what he's planning."
Amelia's eyes widened. Leaving the country? That was serious. She quickly wrapped up the call, "Sorry, gotta run. Bye."
Turning to Paige, she asked, "Ms. Ellison, should we dig deeper?"
Paige shook her head. "No need." She then turned to Elijah. "Elijah, spill the truth now, and I'll let your family off the hook. If I have to find out myself, the Trump family will be bankrupt in three days. Your call."
Elijah was visibly shaken by Paige's threat.
Caleb was stunned. "Paige, we're family. We've had our issues, but we've cleared them up."
Paige cut him off, "I don't have time for this. Elijah, explain your last two days."
Elijah stammered, "I didn't do anything. Just hiding and drinking."
Paige took a deep breath, clearly losing patience.
Margaret, sensing Paige's mood, grabbed Elijah's arm. "Elijah, where have you been? What did you do? Tell Paige."
Caleb, feeling uneasy, grabbed Elijah's other arm. "What's going on? You vanish for two days, and Xena also disappears? That's too much of a coincidence. You've visited her several times!"
Elijah didn't expect everyone to turn on him. He stood firm. "I didn't do anything. Paige, you're the CEO of the Universe Group. Find out yourself. Go ahead."
Paige turned to Amelia. "Have you got the surveillance footage from the mental hospital?"
Amelia nodded. "I'll check."
She quickly made a call to request the footage, and just after hanging up, she received the surveillance video. As she watched it at double speed, she saw Xena escaping with a man during a lax moment.
Rewinding, she set the speed to normal and handed the phone to Paige. "Got the footage of Xena escaping."
Paige glanced at Elijah, then focused on the video. Xena, in hospital clothes with a coat over them, looked like any other patient. While the man in the video, despite the baseball cap, mask, and sunglasses, had an unmistakable figure.
"What do you have to say?" Paige paused the video and showed it to Elijah, Margaret, and Caleb.
Finally, she held the screen in front of Caleb. "Can you recognize your own son?"
Caleb looked at Elijah. Even Paige could recognize him; how could he not?
"Is this what you've been doing? Why did you take Xena out? She's not your cousin; she's the one who harmed your cousin's family." Caleb, furious, slapped Elijah hard.
Elijah covered his face, "So what if she's not my cousin? She was just a kid back then. Could she decide any of this? She was cherished by the Sackler family for years, then thrown into hell. Do you know how twisted the treatments in that mental hospital are?"
Elijah kept yelling, but Paige calmly asked, "Where is she?"
Elijah stopped, the room falling silent. He seemed scared of Paige and didn't dare to speak.
She asked again, "Where is she? Where did you take Xena after leaving the hospital?"
Elijah stayed silent.
