Chapter 379 What's It to You

Just as Paige, Pearl, and the others were chatting and discussing their strategy, there was a knock on the study door.

Pearl walked over to open it and saw Louis standing at the entrance. "Sorry, am I interrupting?"

Paige glanced over at Louis. "It's fine, come in."

They had almost finished their discussion anyway, and even if Louis hadn't come, they were about to head downstairs for breakfast.

Louis asked, "Can I talk to you alone?"

Seeing Paige again this time, Louis felt a bit surreal.

Swapping lives—it felt so magical just thinking about it.

Paige gave the others a look, and they all left the room.

Paige sat down in her seat and gestured for Louis to sit wherever he liked.

In Arcadia's Carnegie Estate, Louis was actually more familiar with the place than Paige.

At this moment, the seat Paige was sitting in was the one Louis had once occupied.

But he knew that from now on, that seat would never belong to him again.

Paige spoke up, "What do you want to talk about? Margaret? Don't worry, the kidnappers won't kill her. In fact, they need her to threaten me, so you can rest assured that although Margaret has been kidnapped, her life is not in immediate danger."

Louis was indeed a dutiful grandson!

In the past, when he was Bradley's grandson, although their relationship wasn't great—since Bradley focused more on Raymond—he was still a filial grandson.

Now, as Margaret's grandson, it seemed he was also a dutiful one.

Louis replied, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect her situation to affect you. After the plane landed, I talked to Mr. Carnegie. We'll rescue her, no matter the outcome, and we won't let you bear the pressure."

Louis just wanted to atone to Paige, but one thing after another kept happening, making it almost impossible for him to face her now.

Paige sneered, "Do you know why Margaret was kidnapped?"

Louis knew but remained silent.

Paige continued, "She has now become a leverage against me. I shouldn't care, right? Do you know how many times she abandoned me? Do you think if I don't care, they'll let me go? No, Andrew and his people won't let me go. Margaret's selfishness and harshness won't let me go either! If I had known this would happen, I should have sought revenge earlier. Maybe then, we wouldn't be in this difficult situation now."

Louis looked at Paige. Perhaps he understood better than anyone else the feeling of being abandoned repeatedly.

Because their initial meeting was due to Paige being abandoned and him being trafficked.

He was bought by another family for a hefty price to be their heir, so he was treated relatively well.

But Paige was different; her life was much harder.

Louis apologized, "I'm sorry, I know the Sackler family owes you too much. I didn't expect those people to use her against you."

Paige said coldly, "What does it have to do with you, Louis? You already promised to be part of the Carnegie family and spend your life repaying them, didn't you? As for Margaret abandoning me time and again, what's it to you? That's between her and me. How you save her is your business. And what I do is none of your concern!"
