Chapter 307 Operation Failed, Initiate Plan B
Louis's face showed a pained expression, his heart filled with as much suppressed doubt as Paige's.
But Francesca was very sure that she had no intention of explaining the truth to Louis.
Francesca looked at Louis firmly and answered his question emphatically, "I don't know Mrs. Parker. Can you trust what Xena says?"
"I didn't take Mrs. Parker's hair; she saw it wrong. I was just helping her brush away the hair covering her face. She was just imagining."
"Louis, think it through before you ask such questions. If you're not my son, who are you? If you're not my son, what relationship do you have with the Carnegie family? If you're not my son, why would I help you take over the entire Hawke Corporation?"
At this point, it was clear that Francesca had no intention of continuing the conversation.
Louis was left speechless by Francesca's three-pointed questions.
His inner doubts were harshly replaced by the interests behind those three questions.
If he wasn't Louis, would he still have the right to sit at the top of Hawke Corporation?
For a moment, Louis seemed afraid to ask further. He stood there in a daze, not even knowing what to do.
Francesca spoke again, "Go back to your room. I'm very tired. At least tonight, let me rest well."
There would be no more peaceful days ahead.
Maybe tonight, Paige would also come rushing in, like Louis, demanding an answer from her.
At this moment, Louis was like a puppet on strings, filled with countless doubts but too afraid to ask further.
After a moment of silence, he said to Francesca, "Have a good rest."
After saying that, Louis left Francesca's room without another word.
Once Louis was gone, Francesca leaned against the door, finally able to relax.
Her guarded demeanor turned into exhaustion, gradually shifting to pain, her face contorted, losing any trace of her usual elegance.
Her body slowly slid down the door, leaning against it, supporting her entire weight.
In that instant, Francesca could no longer control her emotions. She needed to open her mouth wide to breathe in enough fresh air.
Even so, she couldn't fully control herself. Her right hand clenched into a fist, pounding her chest repeatedly.
No one knew how much it hurt there, so much that it almost couldn't beat.
When she had no more strength to hit herself, her right hand pressed heavily on her heart, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
She was like a drowning person with no straw to grasp.
Her emotions, stable for many years, completely collapsed at that moment.
The defenses she had built up over the years crumbled entirely.
When Xena mentioned that she had taken Luna's hair, only she knew how close she came to breaking down on the spot.
She barely held it together, and then Louis came to demand answers.
Luckily, it was just Louis!
If it had been Paige, she feared she wouldn't make it through the night.
If it had been Paige, the secret she had hidden for half her life would have no meaning.
Luckily, it wasn't Paige, and luckily, it wasn't tonight.
Francesca cried, but she didn't dare make a sound. Her right hand tightly covered her heart, and her left-hand bit into her mouth to suppress any noise.
After crying like this for half an hour, Francesca's emotions finally calmed down.
In the end, she was strong and resilient, and she didn't just collapse.
After wiping away her tears, Francesca got up from the floor.
Even though her left hand still bore clear teeth marks and her eyes were swollen like walnuts, the moment she stood up, she was once again a composed and noble person.
Francesca dragged her numb legs to the bedside and picked up her phone.
Given the situation, she had to keep on and make further plans.
She turned off the phone and removed the SIM card. Then, Francesca took a small SIM card, warmed by her body heat, from her undergarment and inserted it into the phone before turning it back on.
When the phone restarted, it entered a different interface.
The phone was as clean as if it had been reset, with nothing inside.
No messages or stored phone numbers.
Francesca dialed a number from memory and made the call.
The call was answered.
On the other end, there was only the sound of familiar, steady breathing.
Francesca's panicked heart gradually calmed upon hearing the familiar breathing.
After three seconds of silence, Francesca spoke, "I'm in Northern Country. Everything is fine! The operation failed, and my identity is about to be exposed. Initiate Plan B immediately."
After saying these words, Francesca bit her lip lightly, trying not to show more emotion.
The other end of the line remained silent except for the breathing, which had become slightly heavier.
This slight change almost made Francesca break down again.
Francesca seemed reluctant to hang up the phone. She spoke again, "You must act quickly."
After saying that, Francesca hung up the phone without hesitation.
She closed her eyes, composed herself again, and then switched the SIM card back. She then walked into the bathroom, threw the used SIM card into the toilet, and watched it flush away before feeling at ease.
A knock on the door startled Francesca in the quiet night just as she had begun to relax.
She turned to the door, trying to adjust her emotions before walking towards it.
