Chapter 247 Rescue

Paige didn't even bother calling to check. She just sped through red lights, heading straight for the hospital.

At the hospital, Francesca kept glancing at her watch. She'd been waiting a while, figuring Paige would get some news soon. If she hung around any longer, she might run into Paige, and that would be a mess to explain.

Francesca stood up. "I can't stay much longer. Paige has really kept you safe. Honestly, it's wild she's my sister, being over twenty years younger. She'll be back soon. If I stick around, she might get the wrong idea."

Francesca knew how badly Paige wanted a kidney from Louis for Luna. And the more Paige wanted Louis's kidney, the more Francesca wanted to protect it. No way was she letting Louis be the donor.

Francesca was about to leave when Luna grabbed her wrist with all her strength. "Truth, truth."

Francesca asked, ''You wanna know the truth?''

Luna weakly nodded. Francesca nodded too. She leaned in and pulled a few strands of Luna's hair. Stuffing the hair into her bag, Francesca said, "Don't worry, I'll handle it. Just find a way to stop this surgery, and I'll get you the answers you need."

Right after Francesca finished, someone rushed in. "Mrs. Miller, Paige is back. Her car just pulled into the hospital."

Francesca was stunned. "That fast?"

The person nodded. Francesca knew she had to bail. She grabbed her bag, took one last look at Luna, and headed out.

Francesca shut the door, glancing at the knocked-out bodyguards in the lounge. They were still out cold from the sedative. She told her crew, "Untie them and let's get out of here. If Paige shows up and we run into her, it'll be a mess."

Francesca's crew were her personal people, not tied to the Carnegie family. Running into Paige or Raymond like this would be bad news. They quickly untied the ropes and followed Francesca out.

Meanwhile, the guards watching Amelia left after getting a call. Amelia was still tied up on the sofa, unable to make a sound.

Paige was freaking out. She parked right at the hospital entrance and bolted to Luna's ward. But as soon as she got inside, she got bumped into twice. The people who bumped her kept apologizing.

After a few seconds of this, Paige was losing it. The two people wouldn't stop pestering her. She finally shoved them away and took off. Sometimes, politeness could indeed be a hassle.

In the elevator, Paige reached to press the floor button, only to see it was packed tonight. Every floor below Luna's ward was already lit up. This hospital didn't have a private elevator straight to the ward, so Paige had to wait a few more minutes before she could get out.

Once she did, she sprinted towards Luna's ward. The usual bodyguards were nowhere in sight. Paige shoved the door open, and what she saw made her gasp. The bodyguards and medical staff were all sprawled out, unconscious on the sofas and floor.

Paige felt her heart clench. They'd clearly been drugged. No time to waste. She grabbed a glass of cold water from the table and splashed it on the bodyguard on the floor, then dashed to Luna's room.

Bursting in, Paige ran to Luna's side. Luna lay there, unconscious, with tears on her cheeks. Paige frantically called out, pressing the call button for the doctor, "Mom, please, don't scare me, Mom."

Paige cried, tears welling up. She pinched Luna's philtrum, but Luna didn't wake up. Instead, a trickle of black blood oozed from her mouth.

Paige froze for three seconds. Black blood—this was bad. The monitors next to Luna's bed showed all her vitals dropping.

With Luna's heart rate plummeting, Paige couldn't wait. She tried to keep it together and started CPR. Doctors and nurses rushed in, taking over from Paige.

Paige stepped back, watching them work on Luna. Her mind was blank. She didn't know what to do. Her eyes were glued to the monitors, fear gripping her heart.

She thought, 'What if something happened to Mom? How could I ever forgive myself? I'd missed out on my childhood with her. Was fate really going to be this cruel after we'd finally reunited?'

By now, the bodyguards outside were waking up and realizing something was wrong. Some went to check on Louis's room. Amelia, now free, rushed to Luna's ward. Seeing Luna being resuscitated and Paige standing there like a statue, Amelia whispered, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have left. I shouldn't have trusted anyone."

Amelia knew Francesca must have been there. That was why Luna was like this. She wondered if things would be different if she hadn't left with Francesca.

Paige kept staring at the monitor. Meanwhile, Raymond, who was working late at Hawke Corporation, rushed over after hearing Paige had gone to the Carnegie Manor looking for Francesca but failed and then returned to the hospital.

Seeing the scene and Paige, Raymond hugged her tightly. "Let's wait outside. We shouldn't put pressure on the doctors right now."
