Chapter 278 Madness

Xena was still mumbling to herself in front of the screen, "You caught me in Northern Country but didn't come to punish me yourself. You just want me to suffer here. Paige, you're so vicious and cruel. If you want to kill me, just do it. I killed your mother."

She continued, "But Paige, do you know? Francesca and Luna knew each other long ago. They have a huge secret. Francesca is the one who really wants to kill Luna. Unfortunately, she didn't have enough time and was afraid of being discovered. Imagine the consequences if she were labeled a murderer with her noble status. I'm so considerate. Francesca should thank me. I did her a big favor by killing Luna. I helped her, so she should help me. I want to see Francesca."

Paige's eyes were glued to the computer screen, watching Xena's crazed and incoherent state.

Paige watched and suddenly smiled. This was only the first day, and there were still two weeks to go. Was Xena already starting to crack?

Paige clicked on the live stream connection. Although the operator on the other side didn't speak the same language, they connected immediately.

Once connected, Paige told Quentin's men that she wanted to say a few words to Xena. The people guarding Xena were very cooperative.

Although Xena couldn't understand the language of Northern Country, she recognized Paige's voice. Upon hearing Paige's voice, Xena immediately crawled closer to the camera.

"Paige, it's you. I knew you were there. Seeing me like this, are you satisfied now?"

Xena laughed as she crawled up, pointing at Paige in a frenzied state, "Paige, don't think you can make me submit. I will never beg you. Dream on!"

Paige asked, "You said Francesca wanted to kill my mother but didn't have enough time?"

Paige didn't fully believe Xena, who had been with Francesca after she left and before Luna died.

But Xena must have heard something. What Xena heard was probably the reason Francesca had to destroy the surveillance and drug her people!

For days, Paige couldn't understand why Francesca, even if she wanted to stop Louis from donating a kidney to Luna, or if she wanted to see Luna alone, had to destroy the surveillance and drug those people.

Could it be that Francesca really had murderous intentions towards Luna? But that didn't make sense! She had made it too obvious.

When Luna had an accident, Francesca would be the first suspect. In Paige's mind, Francesca was a smart woman. She wouldn't bring such trouble upon herself.

At this moment, Paige stared intently at Xena. Xena had successfully piqued Paige's curiosity. She laughed wildly, "Paige, you want to know why Francesca wanted to kill Luna and the secret between them, right?"

Paige's face was cold. When Paige didn't respond, Xena felt she had already captured Paige's curiosity. She knew she wouldn't die in the coming days, so she laughed even more recklessly.

"Paige, so what if I'm in your hands? You won't let me die, will you? I killed your mother, but you still have to keep me alive. Do you know how I killed your mother? I bought a high-priced poison. Once ingested, it causes severe poisoning within three minutes. No matter how advanced your medical resources are or how much manpower, material, and money you spend, you won't be able to save her. The more you tried to save her, the more pain she went through. I'm sure you saw how much she suffered as the doctors tried to save her with your own eyes."

Xena continued, "I gripped her throat so tightly. She struggled fiercely, but in my hands, she was unable to fight back. And there's one more thing I have to tell you. Do you know that even when she could barely speak, she was desperately calling your name?"

In front of the camera, Xena seemed to enjoy closing her eyes. It was like she could still see Luna struggling after being poisoned, clear as day in her mind.

Xena closed her eyes, mimicking Luna's agonized cries for Paige before she died.

That scene seemed to take Paige back to that day, as if she were seeing her mother struggling and calling out.

Xena savored the moment crazily. Suddenly, she opened her eyes and looked at the camera. "Paige, she cared so much about you. You were the person she loved most in this world. I lived with the Sackler family for so many years. During those years, no matter how much I tried to please her, she never cared for me the same way. I was nothing in her eyes. She spent every day thinking about how to persuade Margaret to bring you back. She herself was like a caged bird in the Sackler family, yet she still tried her best to give you happiness. Finally, when you turned eighteen, she convinced Margaret to let you come back for a birthday."

Do you know how much I did? To make her happy, I racked my brains and used all my strength, but in the end, I was nothing in her eyes.

She spent every day thinking about how to persuade Margaret to bring you back. She herself was like a caged bird in the Sackler family, yet she still tried her best to give you happiness.

Finally, when you turned eighteen, she convinced Margaret to let you come back for a birthday.

She chuckled in resignation, saying, "How ridiculous. I was also her daughter nominally for so many years, and no one ever saw through my identity. She should have loved me. I just wanted her to be my mother. If she loved me like Grandma did, how wonderful that would be. Paige, no matter how hard you try, you can't get some things. Do you know what that feels like? I lived by her side, called her mom every day, and tried to make her happy like a little pet. But she never thought of making me a birthday cake. The birthday gifts she gave me were just random purchases, not even chosen by her."

Xena continued, "Paige, do you know what it's like to try so hard to please someone and always be ignored? You wouldn't know. But it doesn't matter. I can take her love for you! Your identity, your status, didn't I take them all? So what if it's Luna's motherly love? I can take that too. She carefully chose dresses for you. I just cut them up and threw them away when no one was looking. And I also asked Grandma to get the birthday gifts she picked out for you. She wanted to throw you a party at the Sackler Family. I just asked Grandma how to explain your identity to the guests, and Grandma canceled it. I could have taken everything else, but her love for you—I couldn't take a bit of it. Paige, she cared about you until her last breath. Why? We were the same. But why?"
