Chapter 215 The Condition Is Marrying Me
At that moment, not only did Paige react, but Raymond caught on too. Knowing that, Paige now had to find Louis. "Pearl, can you take care of Luna? I need to find Louis right away."
Pearl had just arrived when she heard Paige instructing her to look after Luna. Raymond quickly chimed in, "I'll go with you."
Seeing Paige driving towards Hawke Corporation, Raymond reminded her, "Louis is still at home."
Paige asked, "How do you know?"
Raymond shook his phone. "I just asked Francesca."
Paige nodded slightly and turned the steering wheel towards the villa where Louis and Francesca lived.
Hearing that Paige and Raymond were coming, Francesca felt uneasy. Louis had come home drunk last night, in a bad state. Now Raymond and Paige had arrived. Francesca still greeted them with a polite smile. "Paige, Raymond. Have you had breakfast so early?"
Paige asked directly, "Francesca, is Louis here? I need to see him."
Hearing Paige's voice from afar, Louis was still at the dining table. With disheveled hair and a dejected look, he sat at the table, dreading seeing Paige and Raymond.
Francesca sighed. "He's having breakfast. Is something wrong?"
Paige headed straight to the dining room. Before Louis could greet her, Paige spoke first, "Louis, your matching results are out."
Paige got straight to the point. Her purpose was clear—she wanted Louis to agree to donate a kidney. Louis hadn't expected Paige to come personally to talk about this.
The reason Paige came personally to tell him was clear to Louis. Louis asked, "Did it match?"
Paige looked at Louis and nodded. Louis was shocked and surprised.
At this moment, Francesca also walked in. She knew about Louis's match for Luna. In fact, it was Francesca who encouraged Louis to do it.
It was just a matching test with a very slim chance of success. Who would have thought that a seemingly random matching test would succeed?
As Francesca confirmed the match, she couldn't help but sway a little. Paige looked at Louis and said, "Whatever the condition, just name it, and I'll make it happen by all means."
Raymond broke into a cold sweat. He knew how much Paige wanted this kidney to save Luna. He also knew how important Luna was to Paige. But Raymond was more afraid that Louis would make unreasonable demands at this moment.
Louis didn't disappoint. After Paige said that, he immediately asked Paige, "Any condition? Even marrying me?"
Raymond clenched his fists, his brows furrowed, and he looked at Louis with a threatening gaze. In this tense moment, Paige replied, "Anything but that. You know I'm already married."
Francesca breathed a sigh of relief, and Raymond's unfriendly gaze towards Louis softened a bit. Louis said, "You know that's the only thing I want."
Before Paige and Raymond could respond, Louis pressed on, "You were originally my fiancée. After you were released from prison, we were supposed to fulfill our engagement and get married. But as soon as you got out, you unilaterally broke off our engagement without my consent."
Louis pointed at Raymond. "And you married him without even telling me."
Paige suddenly let out a light laugh. "Louis, do you really want to dig up the past and see who was right and who was wrong? Have you forgotten about Windrain Tower..."
Before Paige could finish, Louis took a deep breath and interrupted her, "I'm sorry. If I could do it all over again, I would risk everything to stop you. I don't need anything. If this kidney can make up for my mistake five years ago, I'm willing to give it for free. I'm grateful she gave you life. It can also ease some of my guilt if my kidney can save her life."
After saying this, Louis exhaled, feeling a bit lighter. He had always known he was wrong, but he never had the chance to make amends.
Paige looked at Louis in surprise. Louis felt guilty. He knew the request he made earlier was impossible. Paige asked, "Do you know what you're saying? Once you agree, there's no turning back. It's a kidney, a very important part of your body."
Louis said, "They told me when I went for the matching test. The doctor already explained it to me. If the match is successful, I'll need to rest for a while after the surgery. After that, there won't be any major issues."
Paige asked, "What about the request you made earlier?"
Louis said, "That was my biggest regret in life."
Louis agreed, and Francesca suddenly realized what was happening. She rushed forward and said, "No! I disagree. Louis is still so young. He hasn't even married or had children. How can he donate a kidney?"
Louis didn't expect Francesca to suddenly stand up and oppose. He walked towards Francesca. "Mom, it's okay. It won't have much impact with just one kidney."
Francesca firmly opposed. "How can it not affect you? You have so many things to do at such a young age. Losing a kidney is a big deal, don't you understand?"
Paige became anxious hearing this. "Francesca, my mom is in great danger. She might not be able to wait for another matching kidney."
Raymond said, "Francesca, Louis has already agreed. As an adult, he can make his own decisions."
Louis's words made Francesca even more worried. "Yes, it's just a kidney, but all the subsequent health issues will be his to bear. In the company, there are also many who do not respect him as a newcomer. If his health deteriorates, how will he manage the entire company?"
This was Francesca's fundamental concern and the only worry she could express. There was another concern that Francesca couldn't voice or reveal. But her main stance was opposition.
Raymond immediately stepped in to address her concerns. Raymond said, "I can promise you, even sign an agreement. During Louis's recovery after the surgery, I will manage the company for him without taking his position. This way, Francesca, you should have no worries, right?" Raymond's proposal showed his sincerity.
Despite Raymond's assurance, Francesca was still scared and anxious. "This is not a small matter, Louis. You need to think it over carefully!"
Francesca tried to persuade Louis, but Louis took a deep breath and said, "Mom, I've already made my decision. Please give me a chance to make amends for my mistakes."
