Chapter 375 Kidnapped
Paige rarely answered calls from unknown numbers.
She glanced at it and hung up immediately.
At Northwind, aside from work with the Universe Group, there didn't seem to be much that concerned her.
Raymond looked at Paige. "What's up?"
Paige replied, "Unknown call, from Northwind."
Just as she finished speaking, the phone rang again. Paige almost instinctively hung up again.
As she was about to block the number, the same number called again.
Paige smiled helplessly and decided to answer the call.
As soon as the call connected, before Paige could speak, a woman's voice came through. "Ms. Sackler..."
Paige found the voice somewhat familiar, but being called Ms. Sackler almost confused her.
Paige asked, "May I ask who this is?"
Normally, no one would call her Ms. Sackler. After all, in the Carnegie family, she was still known as Raymond's wife.
So, after Paige asked, the caller immediately identified herself. "Ms. Sackler, I work for Mrs. Sackler. Ms. Sackler, can you contact Mr. Louis Carnegie?"
Paige frowned, someone from the Sackler family!
Why were they looking for Louis through her?
Moreover, the woman on the phone sounded like she was crying and seemed anxious.
Paige looked at Raymond. "Someone from the Sackler family was looking for Louis."
Raymond didn't understand. "Why are they looking for Louis through you?"
Paige shook her head; she didn't know either.
However, Raymond immediately dialed Louis's number, and soon, the call went to voicemail.
Raymond said, "Hold on." He then called Hawke Corporation.
It was work hours, so Louis was most likely at the company.
Maybe he was busy and didn't notice his phone was off.
Seriously, the Sackler family had no sense of boundaries, looking for Louis and calling her instead.
However, the woman on the phone seemed to hear Raymond making calls and waited quietly.
After Raymond made the call, he said, "Louis just boarded a plane."
Earlier that morning, Louis had called Raymond to inform him he was heading to Arcadia.
So, it made sense he was on a plane.
Paige said, "Louis is on a plane to Arcadia. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
The woman on the phone quickly said, "What should we do, Ms. Sackler? Something terrible has happened! Mrs. Sackler is in trouble, and Mr. Louis Carnegie is on a plane. What should we do?"
Although Margaret had taken her in for a night, Paige had told her the truth that Louis was her real grandson.
Meddling wasn't Paige's style.
She still didn't plan to say anything.
But the woman on the phone, as if grasping at straws, hurriedly said, "Ms. Sackler, please save Mrs. Sackler. She's been kidnapped, and we can't reach Mr. Louis Carnegie. We have no other options. Ms. Sackler, please."
Paige had the phone on speaker, so Raymond heard everything.
He looked at Paige, as if asking for her opinion.
After all, the Sackler family had joined the Carnegie family and become a subsidiary. Ignoring this situation wouldn't be appropriate.
But Paige and Margaret had deep-seated grudges. Whether to help or not depended on Paige's attitude.
Paige didn't want to meddle, and Margaret was practically an enemy to her.
But she knew that if a subsidiary family got into trouble and they did nothing, no other family would trust them with their lives and futures.
'For the sake of the future!' Paige silently repeated this to herself before speaking.
Paige asked, "Explain clearly, what do you mean by kidnapped? When did this happen?"
The woman on the phone almost cried with relief when she heard Paige was willing to get involved. "Mrs. Sackler left early yesterday morning and didn't come back last night."
Paige frowned, "No one cared that Mrs. Sackler didn't come home?"
The woman answered, "Of course not, Ms. Sackler, you misunderstood. Mrs. Sackler is the head of the household; we don't usually question her whereabouts. And lately, Mrs. Sackler has been busy with company matters. Sometimes she stays late at the office. But this morning, when I went to bring her breakfast, I found out she didn't go to the office yesterday. When I got back and asked around, I felt something was wrong. I checked the surveillance and saw that Mrs. Sackler was taken into a car right outside the house."
Paige asked, "Did you call the police?"
The woman replied, "We didn't understand the situation, so we didn't dare call the police rashly. We wanted to find Mr. Louis Carnegie for advice. Ms. Sackler, what should we do now? Mr. Louis Carnegie is on a plane and can't be reached. What will happen to Mrs. Sackler?"
The woman spoke with an even more pronounced sobbing tone.
Paige knew this woman had been with Margaret for many years.
Maybe it was because she had no real familial ties and even harbored some resentment, so Paige wasn't in a hurry; instead, she remained very calm. "We don't know why they took Mrs. Sackler yet, so let's not call the police for now."
Although she didn't know who had kidnapped Margaret, Paige knew that Margaret had a very complicated network of contacts over the years.
The substance injected into Luna back then was also the work of foreign forces.
Given Margaret's complex relationships, calling the police without fully understanding the situation could jeopardize her life!
The woman on the other end also understood this. "Ms. Sackler, we haven't called the police, but what should we do now? We can't reach Mr. Louis Carnegie, either."
Paige took a deep breath and looked at Raymond.
Margaret still needed to be saved!
The personal grudges between her and Margaret were just between them.
Raymond nodded to Paige and spoke into the phone, "I will arrange for someone to handle this immediately. For now, don't let the news get out, including to the Trump family."
The woman, hearing Raymond's voice and knowing help was on the way, repeatedly thanked them. "Thank you, Mr. Carnegie and Ms. Sackler."
Paige found the title 'Ms. Sackler' somewhat grating. "I'm not part of the Sackler family. From now on, call me Ms. Ellison or Mrs. Carnegie."
The woman responded, "Yes."
As Paige finished speaking, Raymond was already on the phone making arrangements.
After he finished his call, Paige stood up. "How coincidental that Louis just boarded a plane, and then they discovered Margaret was kidnapped? It was a precise timing, allowing Margaret to be kidnapped without anyone rescuing her immediately. Could it be that the kidnappers are seeking revenge rather than money?"
Raymond also analyzed the situation. "Seeking money? If that's the case, isn't the risk a bit too high?"
Paige shook her head. "If it's not for money but for kidnapping, then it's troublesome!"
Usually, if kidnappers were after money, there would be a lot of room for negotiation.
And they weren't short on money!
Paying for someone's life was something they could accept!
At least, the person could come back alive.
Raymond still held his phone. "It seems the situation is quite complicated."
Paige was puzzled.
Raymond explained, "In Northwind, if someone kidnapped Margaret for money, who would the kidnappers extort? Everyone knows that the Sackler family's Xena has already died in an accident. Margaret is just a lonely old woman. Kidnapping her for money would be slower than simply robbing her."
That made sense.
Kidnapping Margaret for money wasn't a wise move!
If it wasn't for money, then this situation was indeed troublesome!
Paige took a deep breath. "Margaret's social circle is very complicated. By the way, do you know where Marigold, who dealt with Margaret and customized the drug for my mom, went?"
During the last trip to Arcadia, Finnegan had died on the street, but Marigold's whereabouts were unknown.
Marigold was quite skilled; otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to create that drug.
Raymond replied, "After we got the antidote for Mrs. Parker, we let them go. After Finnegan died, no one knew where Marigold went. Do you suspect this person is involved?"
Paige shook her head. "No, I just thought of it because of this situation. Margaret's social circle is very complicated. Are the people you're sending over capable in all aspects?"
Raymond nodded. "Don't worry, we'll have news soon."
The Sackler family had just become a subsidiary of the Carnegie family, and now Margaret was in trouble, which made Raymond think a lot.
If the other party was targeting the Carnegie family, then could it be that this Carnegie family was not the same as the other Carnegie family?
Raymond didn't want Paige to worry, so he didn't voice his concerns.
It was already time to sleep, but Paige was still waiting for news.
Louis was now flying smoothly, and they could reach him via satellite phone.
Raymond moved to the study to discuss the matter with Louis.
Paige didn't know why, but she felt a vague sense of unease.
Clearly, she wasn't a soft-hearted person and wouldn't forgive Margaret for what she had done to her just because she was kidnapped.
But that uneasy feeling kept growing in her heart.
She wondered if it was her intruition, but Paige had a feeling that if the kidnappers didn't want money, they might be targeting her.
Although she wasn't a blood relative of the Sackler family, she had many connections with them over the years.
Paige leaned against the headboard, and when Raymond returned to the room after his call, the sound of the door startled her.
Seeing Paige's unusual expression, Raymond immediately showed concern. "What's wrong?"
Paige shook her head. "Nothing, maybe I'm just overthinking. By the way, what did Louis say? After all, he's the primary person responsible!"
Raymond answered, "He plans to fly back immediately after landing."
Paige asked, "How many hours until Louis lands?"
Raymond replied, "About five or six hours."
Paige calculated in her mind, maybe in five or six hours, there would be new developments!
