Chapter 198 The Wedding, He Is Unwilling
Lily paused for a moment, then asked, "Raymond, would you really give me anything I want?"
Raymond didn't hesitate. "Of course."
Lily's smile widened. She'd been waiting for this. Raymond was already hooked, especially after that huge diamond ring and the small wedding. Now, whatever she wanted, he'd agree to without a second thought.
Lily and Oliver exchanged a look, and Oliver knew Lily had Raymond wrapped around her finger.
Oliver nodded, and Lily turned back to Raymond. She squatted down and gently pointed to his chest. "Raymond, I want the thing you keep close to your heart," she said, adding, "Since you carry it with you every day, it must be super important. So, Raymond, will you give me your most important possession?"
Raymond was stunned at first. In that moment of hesitation, Lily knew she had made the right move. The item Raymond kept close to him had to be the clue she was after.
Seeing Raymond not respond for a while, Lily thought he had changed his mind and didn't want to give it to her.
Just as she was about to say something else, Raymond reached out and took out the pouch he always kept close. He held it up and asked, "Is this it?"
Lily's eyes lit up. "Yes, that's it. Raymond, is this very important to you? From now on, I'll take good care of your things as your wife."
Raymond handed the pouch to Lily. "If you want it, you can have it. But it's not that important."
Despite his words, Lily didn't believe him. She quickly grabbed the pouch, worried he might regret it and take it back.
With the pouch in hand, Lily immediately said to the officiant, "Hurry up, let's continue."
Momentarily confused, the officiant hadn't been informed of this little detour in the wedding. However, the officiant quickly got back on track. "Do you, the bride, take this man to be your husband?" the officiant asked.
Lily answered quickly, "I do."
Then, the officiant turned to Raymond. "Do you, the groom, take this woman to be your wife?"
Before Raymond could respond, the doors of the wedding venue burst open, and a voice rang out. "He doesn't!"
All eyes turned towards the door. Half of the guests had seen Paige before but didn't know who she was. Those who did know Paige and her relationship with Raymond were stunned.
Amelia stood up, shaking her fists. "Awesome, she's finally here. I knew it."
If Paige hadn't shown up, Amelia would still disrupt the wedding. Of course, this was because she now had Paige's support.
Otherwise, Amelia wouldn't dare to cause trouble at the Carnegie family's wedding given her status, unless she was tired of her comfortable life with the Smith family. Pearl looked at Paige in surprise with a smile.
Only Louis had the most complicated feelings among the three sitting together.
It was something the Carnegie family didn't want to see if Raymond married Lily without Paige. But there was one outcome Louis anticipated: at least Paige wouldn't become Mrs. Carnegie. So, Louis both wanted and feared Paige's appearance. Her appearance would mean that the person in Paige's heart was Raymond.
Louis worked hard at the company to maintain his position, but the situation remained that many subordinates would follow Raymond with just a wave of his hand. Now, the woman he loved also had feelings for Raymond. Even the strongest person couldn't endure such treatment.
Had this happened five years ago, when he was brought back from outside and knew nothing, he might have accepted it. So many people still hoped Raymond would rise again and return to Hawke Corporation over these five years. This made Louis feel very defeated. After all, it made him seem incompetent!
Paige stood at the door, letting all the guests look at her, dressed in luxurious attire with expensive jewelry. With a determined gaze, she looked ahead. Raymond looked at her with a smile he had never shown before.
Lily frowned and immediately looked towards Oliver. With Oliver shaking his head slightly, Lily calmed down.
Paige walked up step by step and said again, "He doesn't want to! Because I haven't agreed yet!"
Although Lily had gotten what she wanted, her plan wasn't fully executed. Plus, she feared Raymond might change his mind on the spot, complicating things. "This is my wedding with Raymond. If you're here to attend, you're welcome. If you're here to cause trouble, I'm sorry, but you should leave."
Paige squinted slightly and smiled faintly. "Your wedding? It's a pity Raymond and I haven't divorced yet. What kind of wedding are you holding? Moreover, does Raymond really want to marry you? Do you really think you're the eldest daughter of the Morgan family? Are you addicted to performing?"
Lily didn't expect Paige to reveal this, and she glanced at Oliver in a panic. Oliver immediately stepped forward, shielding Lily behind him, and fiercely said to Paige, "What are you talking about? Slandering my sister like this, be careful or I'll sue you for defamation!"
Paige spoke slowly, "Really? I'm afraid you won't even be able to clarify your own identity by then."
Lily was also angry. The word "identity" obviously touched their bottom line. So, with Paige repeatedly mentioning it, both Oliver and Amelia reacted intensely.
Lily said coldly, "I get it. You're just the wife the Carnegie family forced on Raymond, right? You're upset because Raymond wants to divorce you, aren't you? As the top wealthy family in Northwind, you're angry because you can't become the lady of the Carnegie family in the future, right?"
Paige snorted coldly, "Wealthy family? Only people like you would be interested in it. Struggling at the bottom, desperately trying to climb up. Even if you're not born into a wealthy family, you pretend to be aristocrats or noble ladies by borrowing others' identities, right?"
Seeing that Paige was about to expose their identities, Oliver took two steps forward, losing control and directly cursing at Paige. "Who do you think you are? You dare to discuss our identities?"
Paige shot back, "You got it wrong! Who do you think you are, daring to deceive everyone here?"
Oliver, furious, said, "Who's deceiving everyone? Make it clear!"
Paige smiled sarcastically, with a look that saw through everything.
Oliver, hit where it hurt, angrily raised his hand to hit Paige. Raising it high, and just as his hand was about to come down on Paige's face with great force, it was suddenly grabbed by a large hand.
Oliver saw Raymond, slightly taller than himself, whose face was magnified in front of him. "Your legs aren't crippled?" Oliver was so shocked that he could barely speak.
At the same time, all the guests saw it. At that critical moment, Raymond, who had been sitting in a wheelchair for years, with a slightly pale face and a somewhat sickly demeanor, stood up!
Oliver struggled twice but couldn't break free from Raymond's grip with a crushing force.
Oliver looked at Raymond in shock, as did Lily. She had been by Raymond's side for so long without the idea that Raymond's legs were fine. He could clearly stand and walk, but he had never told her.
Lily immediately realized something was wrong while Paige was about to expose Lily and Oliver's identities. And Raymond suddenly stood up, making the whole situation seem strange.
Lily quickly went to Raymond's side. "Raymond, your legs are healed? That's great, you can stand up."
Raymond glanced at Lily. "Really? You really think so?"
Lily nodded quickly. "Of course, Raymond, it's great that you can stand up."
Lily was already a bit incoherent, repeating the same sentences to draw Paige's attention.
Everyone, except Paige and Pearl, was surprised that Raymond could stand up. Louis also stood up the moment Raymond stood up. After all, it was very hard to accept that Raymond could stand up.
Louis's worst fear had come true. But at this moment, he didn't dare to say a word. He could only watch helplessly. Raymond stood up, with nothing he could do.
The wedding on stage had clearly turned into a farce. Raymond looked at Paige. "Did you get the item?"
Paige smiled. "Of course! Otherwise, I was planning to let you sacrifice your looks."
Raymond said, "Can you really bear to do it?"
Paige smiled. "So, I came just in time, right?"
Paige and Raymond's conversation instantly wiped the smile off Lily's face. "What do you mean? Raymond, you never really wanted to marry me, did you? This whole wedding is just a show for me, isn't it?"
Raymond let go of Oliver's hand and stood protectively by Paige. Raymond said, "Since you like this show, I can play along!"
Then Paige said, "Can I ask a question before we settle scores? I'm very curious. Did you kill Carter?"
As soon as she said this, Lily and Oliver looked at each other. Paige, seeing their reaction, said leisurely, "Don't worry, I have no evidence."
